Determined to keep restive youths at peace, the Federal Government has taken a maritime university to the Gbara-matu kingdom and located the new academy at the Okerenkoko, a town along the Escravos channel of Delta State.

Also, a ship yard and a dock yard are also expected to be sited by the government, anchored by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Sa-fety Agency (NIMASA) to boost shipping activities in the communities, as well as ensure that poor shipping experience, a major challenge of the present Nigerian Maritime Academy in Oron, Akwa Ibom, would not resurface this time round.

Subsequently, the 100 communities of the Gbaramatu Kingdom, at the weekend, donated more than 400 acres of land to the NIMASA for the proposed maritime academy, even as the traditional ruler of the area, Pere Godwin Bebenibo of Gbaramatu Kingdom; the chairman of Okerenkoko federated community, Chief James Tangbowei; the spokesman of the kingdom; Chief Dan Ekpebide and the ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpe-mupolo, a.ka. Tompolo, amongst other opinion leaders, celebrated the development and assured the authorities, on behalf of the people, that the gesture would be protected.
