President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday in Ibese, Yewa North local government area of Ogun State, said that his government is tired of hearing and reading stories of insecurity in the country, hence his determination to get the country out of the various challenges that are facing it.

President Jonathan said Nigerians are tired of hearing that there is bomb explosion in Maiduguri or Kano or Bayelsa but will prefer news geared towards the development of the country.

“Yes, we have security challenges in the country. We have challenges in terms of infrastructure, but we are totally committed individually and collectively to get the country out of this situation. Our children want a better Nigeria,” he stated.

The president, who spoke at the commissioning of Dangote Cement Factory located at Ibese, said his government would continue to support any well-meaning Nigerian that is ready to key into his administration’s policy of total transformation.

He said that sooner or later, his administration would stop the importation of fertilizer and rice , but encourage Nigerians to go into such areas.

He said Nigeria will no longer be a dumping ground for all kinds of products, adding that “ we are planning, though we are not going to give a time time limit, the issue of importing fertilizer and rice will soon be a thing of the past”.

While appreciating the chairman of Dangote Cement, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President Jonathan said his contributions to the reduction of unemployment in the country could not be underestimated.

He said, “I appreciate Aliko Dangote for what he has been doing for this great country. In fact, when I honoured him by giving him the GCON, a number of people raised issues out of ignorance.

“People even said Oh! I gave the title reserved for vice-president to a person who did not hold a political office, people who are of no importance.”

President Jonathan said: “Our greatest problem as a country is growing rate of unemployment. If anybody can come up with policy and programme that will create jobs, definitely, the government will embrace that person and will continue to encourage that person.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of Dangote Cement said that he was convinced that home-grown economies will enable Africa to take her destiny in her own hands.

“Africans have what it takes to lead the economic emancipation of the beleaguered continent. But to do this effectively, We need to harness all the resources at our disposal, human and natural,” Dangote said.
