There was a Boko Haram scare in Jos, yesterday, following the arrest of two young men suspected to be members of the dreaded sect.

The young men driving in a red car were arrested by anti riot policemen around the main branch of FirstBank along Bank Road after they were found with two ‘guns’ following a search.

Although the guns were later found to be toy guns, there was commotion as rumour spread that two members of the sect had been arrested.

The rumour generated mixed reactions from residents as some thronged to the scene to catch a glimpse of them while others closed their businesses for fear of possible explosion.

The situation was worsened when policemen, finding the crowd uncontrollable, fired into the air to disperse them.

The two men were later taken into custody for interrogation.

Spokesman of Plateau Police Command, Mr Samuel Dabai who confirmed the incident said the suspects claimed that the toy guns belonged to their children who left them in the car.

He said investigations were on and called for calm among residents.
