One person was killed and 27 others injured today in a crash involving a coach and a lorry on the M5 in the West Midlands, said West Midlands Police.

The accident happened at around 6.25am today as thick fog made driving conditions treacherous.
Two of the coach passengers were seriously injured, police say, with around 25 others suffering minor injuries in the smash near Frankley Services on the M5 in the West Midlands.

Eye witnesses have confirmed that there were foggy conditions in the area on a stretch of motorway where roadworks are taking place, restricting traffic flow.

Paul Guppy who drove past the scene moments after the crash said: 'There was a single decker bus with a lorry wedged in the back of it.

'Police have blocked the whole three lanes.'
West Midlands Ambulance Service said a large number of resources had been sent to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions three and four.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said several ambulances, rapid response vehicles and a hazardous area response team had been deployed to the incident along with doctors and ambulance officers.
