Police foil suicide attempt in Minna


TRAGEDY was averted in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, following the intervention of the State Police Command to a distress call about a man who attempted to commit suicide by using a knife to cut his throat and later found lying unconscious in a pool of blood along Niger Model road by some concerned citizens. 

 The victim, identified as Ibrahim Aliyu of Bakuri Local Government Area of Katsina State was quickly rushed to the General Hospital for treatment by the Police. He was receiving treatment as at press time. Sunday Tribune investigation gathered that after medical personnel had succeeded in assisting Ibrahim Aliyu to regain consciousness, he revealed to the Police that he was married with two children but that his wife divorced him and left with the children.

 It was further learnt that every attempt made by him to reconcile with his estranged wife were frustrated by his In laws, hence the decision to commit suicide. The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Police Command, Mrs. Desire Diseye Nsrim, confirmed the incident in an interview with Sunday Tribune at the weekend in Minna.

 The Police boss said “he is responding to treatment at General Hospital against the backdrop of news by an electronic medium in the state that the man was a victim of inter- religious riot in Kaduna State. He was said to have been abducted by his assailants and dropped in Minna after slicing his throat.”
