ABOUT 48 hours after a Benin-based Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Dan Odiete, was abducted in Benin City, unknown gunmen struck on Friday evening and abducted generator merchant and hotelier, Uyi Oloton (popularly called Uyi Technical).
One of Oloton’s three police orderlies was killed. The others sustained gunshot wounds and are said to be in critical conditions.
The kidnappers, who operated in commando style, were reported to have stormed his Mission-Road office at about 6 pm.
An eyewitness said the abductors shot sporadically into the air and dragged their victim into a brown Honda Sports Utility Vehicle.
“When we first heard the gunshots, we mistook them for knockouts. But when we came out, we saw the kidnappers exchanging fire with the policemen. One of them (policemen) died on the spot. One of his sales girls was shot in the leg.”
Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, Anthony Airhuoyo, said, yesterday, that he could not give details of the incident until he had been briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in the area.
