Court Allows Probe of Amaechi’s Administration by Governor Wike

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, yesterday August 20th dismissed the lawsuit filed by former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, challenging the judicial commission of enquiry set up by the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike to  probe the sale of state assets during Amaechi's administration.

At the hearing of the suit filed by Amaechi, the presiding judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, stated that contrary to Amaechi's assumption, the Commission of Enquiry was not established to investigate his personal activities while in government but was set up to investigate activities of his government as it affected the people of the state and that there was no law against a state government probing how her resources was used by a previous administration.

The presiding judge also stated that Amaechi’s claim that the 30 days set aside for the sitting of the judicial commission of Enquiry would deny him fair hearing was only speculative as the days for the commission of enquiry could be extended if need be. The judge said Amaechi could not make such assumptions of been denied fair hearing when he had neither filed a memorandum before the commission nor appeared before it.

He concluded by saying “The judiciary is not only the last hope of the common man, but it is also the last hope of the mighty and movers and shakers of democracy. Those, who by the benevolence of the judiciary got to power, should resist the temptation to emasculate the judiciary.”

Jonathan Raised Fuel Subsidy From N300bn to N1.9trn – Former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi Reveals

Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of increasing the country’s subsidy claim from N300 billion to N1.9trillion all by himself during his administration.
He said:
“The fuel subsidy was N300 billion under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and it remained the same under late President  Yar’Adua. Within 6 months under President Jonathan, the fuel subsidy rose from N300 billion to N1.9 trillion. Yet, Jonathan wanted more money for fuel subsidy.

“Is it that the country now doubled its population or bought more machines or started manufacturing? As chairman of Governors Forum, I was in a position  to get my share of the N1.9 trillion but I chose the part of honesty and truth, you cannot catch me being dishonest.
“There was a time I walked into a meeting with the president (Goodluck Jonathan)  and at the meeting, the argument was that they wanted more money for oil subsidy. As the chairman of Governors Forum, I stood my ground and told the president I was not going to support that.
“He asked me why and I explained that we were already in court on the issue of fuel subsidy. The president abused the hell out of my life. I have huge respect for the president, but the only thing that made me disagree with him was on the issue of the management of the country’s treasury.

In regards to anti-South South allegation, he said:
“I told the president then that those who were accusing me of being anti South South will come out and tell the world the development that has happened to the South South under his presidency. The president confirmed it himself during the campaign that he has done nothing, he said: “I know I’ve done nothing but if you vote for me, I’ll do…” so I call him I’ll do president.
“This prompted the trouble between me and the Jonathan administration.”
Recalling his face-off with Jonathan, he stated that the genesis of their differences dated back when the former president reduced the allocation due to Rivers State from N20 billion to paltry N6 billion, adding that he never worked against the South South zone.

He alleged that the current government of his state under Governor Nyesom Wike was working against him being appointed a Minister on the grounds that he would determine the course of the state politics.
He said:
“Some people will say I betrayed the South South, I have no word for betrayal. May God not give me the ambition the current governor of Rivers State has, he can sell anybody. God should rather put me to death than to have an ambition to sell this country.
“The current governor of Rivers State and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are afraid of me getting appointment at the national level, because that will determine the politics of Rivers State. They know that the current president abhors corruption and the only way to stop me from getting appointment is to paint that picture of corruption.

Patience Jonathan Controlling The Police In Rivers State – Governor Rotimi Amaechi Says

Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi says the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is in control of the police in Rivers state and that the police force has been helpless and ineffective in discharging its duties in the state because of this.

Amaechi made the allegation while receiving the special representatives of the UN Secretary-General led by Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas in his office in Rivers state yesterday March 25th.

“Members of APC have been crying out loud to the country and the world. In Rivers State, the wife of the President, who is from Rivers State has taken over the control of the Police Force. On Tuesday night, the Commissioner of Police attempted to arrest a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the reason for doing that is to ensure that APC members don’t come out on election day.

And as I speak to you now, the lawmaker has moved into Government House for protection. More so, we have over 400 APC members in Police detention. The other day, I asked the Police Commissioner and he told me that those arrested were criminals and why should I ask him to release them. Do we only have criminals in APC? What about the period when the APC gubernatorial candidate Dr. Dakuku Peterside led members of the Party to a rally in Okrika. The APC campaign train was shot at, by hoodlums and PDP members.
Now, ask the Commissioner of Police if he carried out any arrest? In that attack it was observed that the PDP killed a Policeman and injured several APC members. The Commissioner of Police is totally helpless. In the same vein, on Tuesday, PDP hoodlums went to the House of the Commissioner of Power, Hon. Augustine Nwokocha with Military Uniforms and killed his relations, injured others and further burnt down the house of his Personal Assistant. All these attacks and impunity can measure that the elections can be free, but, may not be fair.
The APC is not running election against PDP all over the states across the country. The APC is running election against the institutions of government. And they include; the Police and the Military. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah is from Rivers State. As I talk to you now, he has deployed Special Military to Opobo/Nkoro local government area where he comes from, and incidentally, the APC guber candidate, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside comes from Opobo. So, you virtually expect resistance and nobody is concerned about the plight of APC. The APC is threatening to go back to the International Criminal Court (ICC) where the United Nations will witness how President Jonathan and the PDP are using the Police and the Military to trigger violence”, Amaechi said.

Good times between Gov Amaechl(right) and Eng Tele
We have seen all kinds of surprises during this year's presidential election with party leaders and officials defecting or cross carpeting  from one party to another fews days to the general elections.Last Sunday’s defection of the Rivers state deputy governor, Engineer Tele Ikuru, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is believed by many political analysts and party supporters to be a move that will create a crack in the heart of the state chapter of the party.

However, the Rivers state governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in his reaction to his deputy’s defection on Tuesday took to his Twitter handle and berated Ikuru’s action in his tweet.
Amaechi, who is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, expressed optimism that Ikuru’s defection is not even enough to cause a storm in a tea cup, adding that the APC’s march to victory cannot be disrupted.

The governor revealed that he is feeling invigorated because change is near.

What defection? Not even enough to cause a storm in a tea cup. The March to victory can’t be derail. Feeling invigorated. Change is near.#APC

Patience Jonathan, Wike Behind Blasts And Gunshots At APC Rally - Rotimi Amaechi Blast

The Director General of the APC Presidential campaign organization and Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the first lady, Patience Jonathan and the state's PDP Governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike of organizing the disruption witnessed at the APC Governorship rally in Okrika, the village of the first lady earlier today.

Gov Amaechi made the allegation while speaking with newsmen after the APC leaders meeting at the Shehu Yar'Adua center earlier today.

"Clearly, the wife of the president does not want APC to campaign in Okrika, her local government area. The wife of the president and the governorship candidate of the PDP in Rivers again organised thugs to disrupt APC rally.

As usual, the police couldn’t protect us, over 200 police men. I asked the commissioner of police and he said they had over 200 policemen there. Yet, three explosions and then they opened fire on members of APC.

The Channels TV reporter I hear, is injured, stabbed, and members of APC injured. We had meetings with DSS (Directorate of State Security) and police and they confirmed we could go ahead. There were 200 policemen and there were over 20 to 30 DSS men who came there and they did nothing"he said.
