A single mother of three, left her three children to go and hustle for 2k. She went with her client for the night for just 2k. Left her kids, two boys and a girl. Locked them up inside the room with candle light on. From 11:58pm the room burnt down affecting her neighbors and killing her first son and daughter. Only one of them survived the fire Her husband had died leaving her to struggle for the kids and all she can do is to sell her body. The police came and arrested her as she returned this morning. She confessed that the man paid her 2k for the night and she used 200 for transport. Same woman also gave birth to a baby boy few months ago in her room and left the baby to bleed to death through his placenta. She lives in Bacher, in Akar road, Rumolumini Community, Obiakpo LGA, of Rivers State.

How Kano INEC Commissioner And His Family Died (Police Report)

Contrary to peoples' insinuations that Kano state INEC commissioner and his family may have been murdered before setting his house and his family on fire, the Police provide more details of the tragedy that led to the death of Alhaji Abdullahi Minkaila, the Kano state resident electoral commissioner, his wife and two children.
Ibrahim Idris, the state Commissioner of Police, disclosed that the fire started around 4:00am on Friday adding that the victims died because of inhaling smoke.

“Today (Friday, 3rd April) at about 4:30 am., the policemen on duty at the official residence of the resident electoral commissioner in Kano state, Alhaji Munkaila Abdullahi, located on No. 2 Sir Kashim Ibrahim Road, Nassarawa GRA, Kano, observed a fire emanating from a split air conditioner in the sitting room.
“They made several attempts to contact the late REC, as well as repeatedly banging on the slide glass to no avail. As a last resort, the police smashed some of the toilet windows still without response. Thereafter, some policemen and local guards broke the door leading to the sitting room and discovered that the sitting room has already been engulfed by fire and smoke.
“They then went to the side of the door leading to the master’s bedroom, broke the door and entered; the REC and his family were not found inside the bedroom and the police then went to the bathroom, attached to the master bedroom and found the REC, his wife and his two daughters unconscious on the floor, with the late REC cuddling one of the daughters.
“They quickly rushed them to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where the doctor confirmed them dead. The doctor said the family died from inhalation of hot and black smoke.

“Meanwhile, detectives have sealed off the scene and have commenced investigation with the fire service men to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.”

Speaking on the incident, some neigbours, who pleaded for anonymity, said that the inferno was strange, alleging that the police should not believe the case an ordinary one.

Again!!! : Fire Destroys PDP National Secretariat In Abuja

The headquarters of the PDP, Wadata House in Wuse Zone 2 Abuja was gutted by fire around 8.15pm yesterday.

 A section of the building, which the party uses as its press center, was completely razed.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisah Metuh, confirmed the incident and said it was not sabotage, but electrical fault. He said the fire started from an air-conditioning unit in one of the cabins and had been put under control by men of the Federal Fire Service.

“The PDP rules out any form of sabotage or attack and hereby wishes to inform all our members and teeming supporters that the fire has since been put under control,’’ Metuh said in a short statement. See another photo below.....

Fire engulf Great Nigeria Insurance House(GNI), 22-storey commercial building in Lagos

According to reports coming from Xinhua and punchng, a huge fire engulfed a commercial building in Lagos this morning, causing serious damage to the 22-storey high-rise tower on the Lagos Island broad-martins street.

There was nobody in the building because the fire started before work hours, according to reports.

Many of the traders were seen scrambling to salvage their goods from the burning building, as the blaze brought to a standstill commercial activities in the ever busy Balogun area of Lagos Island.

The Great Nigeria House, acclaimed as the fifth tallest building in Nigeria, accommodates Mainstreet Bank and served as warehouses to some traders.

Kazzem Alabi, a businessman, told Xinhua that the fire started at about 6 a.m. local time and was first noticed on the first floor. By 10:30 a.m., the fire had taken over the first four floors.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet, but that traders had been told to vacate the neighboring buildings.

Firemen were still battling to contain the fire, prevented it from spreading to other floors and shopping plazas around the skyscraper.

UPDATE:

Not less than 12 trucks of water have been expended on the raging inferno which has devoured the first two blocks of the 20 storey building. The fire has extended to the third building, and fire fighters are already exhausted.

9-Month-Old Baby Consumed In a burning house In Sapele

The tragic death of a nine-month-old baby has been reported in Sapele. The baby girl was burnt to death.She was said to have been locked up in a house by her parents while they went to work. The mother was said to have gone to the market where she plaits hair for people at Sapele yam garage, while the father was also at work.

The incident occurred at about 7.00pm, Wednesday when the whole building was razed and neighbours could not put out the fire. Men of the Sapele Fire Fighting Service also arrived late.

The grand-father of the infant who was alerted of the incident was later involved in salvaging other parts of the building without knowing that his grand child had been consumed by the fire, reports have said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but a source at the Sapele Fire Fighting department, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that it was due to electrical spark from power fluctuation.

As sympathisers gather around the ruins, most of them blamed the parents of the baby for leaving the 9-month-old all by herself in the house, as they noted she could have been saved if someone older was with her.

NAFDAC Warehouse Gutted By Fire In Lagos

A warehouse belonging to the National Agency for Food Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) was on Friday night gutted by fire. The warehouse is located at the Oshodi laboratory office of NAFDAC in Lagos.

According to eyewitness, the fire started about 7:45pm. However, security officials refused journalists entrance into the premises, but eyewitnesses say no life was lost in the inferno.

The warehouse houses seized fake and unwholesome food, drug and pharmaceutical products. Confirming the incident, NAFDAC Director of Communication, Alhaji Abubakar Jimoh said the fire was caused by an electrical fault, adding that it was not the first time the Agency had experienced such. “It recently happened in Port Harcourt office.”

Jimoh said the fire affected the section housing the fake drugs and other products. It is not the first time NAFDAC is experiencing this kind of electrical fire. He then further disclosed that the Agency is planning to carry out complete overhauling of all its electrical system in the warehouses across the country, starting with Lagos warehouse. “It is an old building inherited from Federal Ministry of Health. NAFDAC has been rehabilitating it, but we intend to do a complete overhauling… Already we have contacted top level electrical engineer to start the rehabilitation immediately.”

Photos: Fire Outbreak Reported At Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos [Updated]

A small electrical fire was on Thursday morning reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

An eyewitness is quoted as saying the fire emanated from some cables, which apparently melted under intense heat as some welders were working at the extension of ‘D’ Wing of the international airport. This led to airport officials taking a preemptive step of cutting off power supply to the arrival and departure terminals.

Fire fighters were immediately deployed in the affected area and as at the time of filing this report, we understand that the situation has been contained while security operatives have erected a metal barricade around the site to forestall illegal and unauthorized entry to the building.

Power supply was restored to the airport terminal within a few minutes. However flight operations were not affected while the incident lasted.

Fire Guts TheNews Magazine Office

The headquarters of a popular weekly magazine, TheNews, and an evening tabloid, PMNews was on Wednesday evening gutted by fire.

The fire, which started at 6.30pm, however, affected the last floor of the two-storey building on Acme Road, Lagos.

It was learnt that the inferno was caused by a power surge.

An employee of the Independent Communications Network Limited, the publishers of TheNews, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said nobody was injured in the incident.

He, however, said the fire destroyed every equipment and property in the affected floor.

He said, “The fire was very ferocious. I think the fire was caused by power surge. When the power supply was restored, the voltage was high and some employees did not switch off their systems.”

Petrol fire burns 3 chilldren in Nsukka

Three children of the same parents narrowly escaped death on Saturday in Nsukka, Enugu State, as petrol mistaken for kerosene exploded into a fire.

The children, born to Mr Richard Igweabunwa of No. 216, Enugu Road, are now receiving treatment at Nsukka Medical Clinic for burns resulting from the explosion.

The explosion occured around 7.48 p.m., an eyewitness said.

The eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said on Sunday that the explosion occurred when a house help mistakenly poured petrol into a kerosene stove, resulting in the explosion.

It was learnt that the neighhbourhood was thrown into confusion as people ran in different directions, mistaking the explosion for a bomb blast.

“The affected children are between five and 12 years.

“Amarachi, the house help poured fuel into a kerosene stove with the three children around her.

“The explosion made people to run in different directions trying to escape from the danger.

“In fact, what we all had in our minds when we were running was that it was a bomb explosion,” the witness added.

“The parents of the children were at Ogige Main Market, Nsukka, when the incident occurred and it was neighbours that rushed them to hospital,” the witness said.

Efforts to see the children in hospital was disallowed by the hospital management, but an official said they were responding to treatment.

The father of the children said that he was grateful to God and the neighbours for their effort in limiting the effect of the incident.

“I would have lost five members of my family at once. I’m in pains given the degree of the burns they received and what they are going through now.

“It could have been worse, if five of them were together when it happened but only three were seriously affected,” Igweabunwa, who hails from Imo, added.

Fire razes building, kills three in Ibadan

A 60-year-old woman, Mrs Esther Olajide, and two of her grandchildren, were on Tuesday burnt to death at her residence in Molete area of Ibadan.

Eye witnesses told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased and her grandchildren, aged six and nine, could not be rescued due to the thick smoke emanating from the inferno that gutted the one-story building.

The fire, according to the eye witnesses, started around 11 p.m on Monday.

A friend of the late woman, Mrs Olayinka Oyebode, blamed the incidence on power surge.

She claimed that power supply in the area before the incident had been erratic, arguing that this was responsible for the inferno.

“The mummy that I know dislikes anything that has to do with electrical gadgets and she will instruct the children not to tamper with electrical appliances.

National Assembly Complex set on fire

Fire Saturday gutted the National Assembly Complex, razing part of the office of the clerk of the assembly.

An eyewitness said the fire began from an air conditioner in one of the rooms above the Senate chamber following a power surge in the expansive building.

Security men on guard duty reportedly raised the alarm when they noticed smoke billowing from the third floor of the White House, the main building housing the two chambers.

Heavy smoke from the office attracted the attention of one of the sergeants-at-arm who contacted men of the Fire Service Department located within the complex. The firemen put out the fire before it could spread further.

The Comptroller General, Nigeria Fire Service, Mr. Oke Olusegun, told reporters that a combined team of fire fighters from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Julius Berger Nigeria and the Nigeria Fire Service responded to the distress call and put out the fire.

According to him, the fire which destroyed some documents in the office would have wrecked more havoc but for the quick response from the firemen.

However, the fire fighters had some difficulties locating the source of the fire. “It could have been worse if the fire had spread to other offices, but we thank God that it was put out immediately even though we encountered some problems due to the way the place is built,” Olusegun said.

When THISDAY visited the scene of the incident at 5.00 pm yesterday, the Chief Security Officer of the National Assembly, Col. Emeka Okere (rtd) and some of his staff were in the complex to ensure that nobody was allowed entry into the building.

The firemen were seen sweeping out the flood of water used in quelling the fire. The firefighting truck used in putting out the fire with registration number, NASS FL 278 MGT, was still stationed in front of the main building when our correspondent visited.

Security was also been beefed up around the complex as the road leading to the Three Arms Zone, where the National Assembly is located, was cordoned off by security agents.

Four children die in fire horror at mother's party

Posing for the camera with bright eyes and wide smiles, these are the three children who died in a fire as their older teenage brother tried desperately to save them.

Despite his brave efforts, he too perished in the tragedy.

The horror unfolded in an attic room at the family home as their mother celebrated her 36th birthday with friends.

Michelle Smith’s four-year-old twin daughters, Holly and Ella, and two sons, Jordan, two, and Reece, 19, were all pronounced dead at hospital.

Thankfully, we said no and I took them home, otherwise who knows what could have happened.’

Mr Ostler, a part-time chef, of Freckleton, added: ‘It is such a sad loss, it’s just horrendous, I can’t get my head around it. Nobody should see their children die.’

Miss Smith’s father, Keith Smith, 56, said his blood ‘turned cold’ when he saw his daughter’s home flash up on the news early yesterday.

‘I rushed down here straight away, all the time wishing it wasn’t going to be true, but when I got here my worst nightmare came true,’ he said.

‘I’m still trying to take it all in. They were smashing kids. The last time I saw them was at Christmas.

They had moved into the house about two-and-a-half years ago and seemed very happy there.

Fighting back tears, he added: ‘It was Michelle’s birthday – I feel so sorry for her. They are cracking kids and she is a great mother.’

Family friend Carolyn Milburn added: ‘It’s knocked us all for six. They were all lovely, all of them.

‘Lovely kids, well behaved, well brought up, always happy. Michelle is a good mum. She loves her kids.

‘I haven’t spoken to her yet but she and her mother, Christine, are both in a state.’

Detective Superintendent Andy Murphy, of Lancashire Police’s major investigation team, said they would be talking to a number of people who were at the house when the fire broke out.

‘We are keeping an open mind at this stage as to what happened,’ he added.

100-yrs-old woman and others burnt to death

The death of a 100-year-old landlady, Mrs. Christiana Ugutanyin, in a fire incident in Ajegunle, Lagos, would have been prevented if electricity supply in the country was stable. 

The inferno also resulted in the death of one of her tenants, Mrs. Esane Aburimo while others, including a little boy, sustained injuries. 

Eyewitnesses told the Daily Sun how the last floor of the one-storey building went up in flames,following power surge from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) facilities. 

Another possible reason for the death of the old woman was said to be the failure on the part of the Federal Fire Service and the Lagos State Fire and Safety Services to arrive the scene on time. The inferno, which began at about 11.25 p.m lasted till about 3 a.m. It was later put off by officials of the Lagos State Fire and Safety Service. 

But by the time the smoke cleared, the charred remains of the landlady was found. The old woman, who was restricted to a wheel chair was said to be sleeping in the bed when the fire started.

One of her relatives, Mrs. Meregwae Obiangwere, told the reporter that the deceased was also suffering from arthritis, and only moved from the floor to the bed. Sometimes, she would tell people to assist her. “They would put her in the wheel chair and she rolled on the corridor.”

The victim, who hailed from Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was said to have been married to a Camerounian, who died many years ago. The burnt building was said to have been built by her husband in 1946. 

Another eyewitness, Muyiwa Olubukola, disclosed that another thing which led to the spread of the fire, was the fact that the ceiling was made of bamboo. “Immediately the fire started, it was as if some one poured petrol on the building. 

Before anybody realised what was happening, the whole roof was on fire. Those, who were able to run, escaped, while those, especially, the two women, who were unable, were consumed by the inferno,” Olubukola said. 

A grand child to Mrs. Aburimo, Pere, said he made efforts to have access to where his grandmother was sleeping, but to no avail. He said they could only weep as they made fruitless efforts to rescue the victims. The youths in the area almost went on rampage, when the officials of the Fire Service delayed to come after several phone calls.
