Ex-councillor st**bs teenager for refusing advances

A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his advances at a night club.

On October 26, Mariam Abubakar (pictured above) went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.” Her friend, who pleaded anonymity, said they only went there “to hang out” when Babatunde, who was obviously drunk, started to make advances to Abubakar.

She said, “She was not interested in him so she did not answer when he called her. He was dancing and Mariam (Abubakar) was sitting at a table. He was obviously drunk and he came to pull her.
“He was manhandling her and she insisted he should leave her alone. This did not go down well with Babatunde and he was really angry. He went to a corner, took a bottle, broke it and stabbed Mariam in the neck.”

According to the source, Babatunde fled the scene immediately.
A police source at Area E told our correspondent that the preliminary report obtained indicated that the incident occurred at about 1:30am. He said Abubakar bled profusely at the scene before she was taken to Naval Hospital, Ojo by sympathisers at the night club.

The source said she was not admitted because those who took her there could not produce a police report.
“That was when someone notified our station (Area E Command) and we went to take her to Ajeromi General Hospital,” he said.

It was learnt that as Abubakar was being taken to the general hospital, she went into a coma.
She was said to have been revived at the general hospital. A nurse at the hospital, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that she had lost about 20 per cent of her blood.

Abubakar is currently under intensive care at the hospital.

However, the police said the night club workers destroyed evidence at the scene of the alleged crime by cleaning up Abubakar’s blood on the floor.

The hotel has currently been sealed off by the police because the management did not report the incident.
It was learnt that the police got wind of Babatunde’s whereabouts, said to be holing up somewhere in Ikoyi and called him to simply come and write a statement. But he was detained immediately he got to the station.
The police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said she had not been briefed on the case.

Husband Sets His Wife On Fire With Burning Stove(PHOTO)

A middle-aged man identified as Oladimeji Fowowe has been arrested by the police at Iju Police Station Red House, Lagos, for allegedly setting his wife on fire, when he threw a burning stove and hot water on her.

The suspect, who trailed his wife to Ijoko in Ogun State, where she had gone to assist her husband’s younger brother’s wife who had just put to bed a set of twins, committed the devilish act as soon as his wife returned home.

Speaking on her hospital bed at Ogba, Lagos State, the victim, Mrs. Oluwakemi Fowowe, said she left her husband and father of her three children, when his trouble and that of his mother became unbearable for her.

“I was at the passage facing outside not knowing that my husband had sneaked through the back door and the next thing I heard was a loud noise as he threw both the burning stove and a pot of hot water on me.

“My body caught fire and I ran outside, shouting for help before people assisted me in putting out the fire. I became unconscious before I was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors battled to revive me.

I want all well-meaning Nigerians to come to my aid as I have no one to help me,’’she moaned in pains Oladimeji was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police at Iju Police Station, where he was detained but he was later granted bail.

His wife’s family said he should not be sent to jail because of the three children his wife had for him. But he was advised to take care of the victim. However, the wife’s family decided to press charges against him when he failed to honour his side of the agreement, to take care of the victim.

He allegedly abandoned her in the hospital. Oladimeji, who had earlier told the police that his action was the handiwork of the devil, has gone underground to evade arrest. The victim is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid as she requires about N400,000 for the treatment of the burns.

"See What My Husband Did To Me,Please Don`t Let Him Go Scot Free"(A MUST READ)

I remember few years back when myself and some friends were deliberating on who has a greater jealousy between a man and a woman. From all indications and reports we have been receiving for months,it is clear that a man`s jealousy can be deadly and brutal.

How would you explain this wicked act from Mr. Kehinde Adesamuye, 39,who set his lover on fire because he was angry and jealous over her relationship with other men.35-year-old Janet Udegba narrated how her live-in lover poured fuel on her and set her ablaze in Ikotun area of Lagos State.

She said she was at the Junction where she does her business of selling cooked Indomie before kehinde came that night, poured petrol on her and lit it with fire. Janet however says Nigerians should not let kehinde go scot free with what he has done to her.

Janet narrates how it all started ‘’My husband has always been jealous. He used to beat me every time, under any guise and excuse. I’ve tried several times to leave him, but he always threatens to harm me. I stayed with him because I was afraid of him and my life. He always told me that I could never escape from him, except I leave Lagos State. Anytime I said I was leaving him, he would say, no problem, but that he would do something to me which I would not forget. Now, see what he had done to me. He wanted to kill me.
Janet Udegba
“I used to sell indomie at Ikotun round about. There are other men and women selling there too. We’re all friends. Last two weeks Friday, one of the traders had a baby. We went for the naming ceremony. Kehinde was there with me. One of the traders gave me a drink; I just took a sip because I was in my flow.

“That was how it all started. He said I was kissing another man in his presence. He said that I sipped from the bottle that the man drank from. Right there, he started threatening that he was going to deal with me when we get home. To be on the safe side, I called my younger sister, telling her that I might come over to spend the night at her place.

I didn’t want him to beat me. When we got home, he cursed, abused and said all sort of things, but I didn’t respond or reply because I didn’t want him to pounce on me. This behaviour continued till Saturday. He even kicked off the bed, but I didn’t mind. I slept on the floor. When I woke up on Sunday, he had gone out. I rushed to take my bath because I wanted to leave the house before he came back.

But he suddenly came back, and started beating me for no reason. He beat so much that I thought he was going to kill me. It was due to the intervention of our landlord that he left me. After that beating, I moved in with my younger sister.” Government should make sure Kehinde pays for what he did to me. I am an orphan. I have no father or mother. I sell Indomie to live. Now, I’ve spent all my money.

In fact, I need help she said. For reasons best known to Kehinde, he started sending friends to Janet’s shop, to beg on his behalf. He wanted her to forgive him and come back. But she refused. Last week Tuesday, Kehinde came to the shop with another friend to beg once more, but Janet told him that she was through with the relationship.

Fuming, Kehinde jumped up from his seat, told her that he had nothing against her leaving, but that he was going to deal with her. He made good the threat by dousing her. The following day, Kehinde was arrested by policemen as he was strolling along the streets of Ikotun.

Man St**bs Wife Twice In The Eye,& was Caught as He Attempts To Relocate From Nigeria

A man allegedly stabbed his third wife in the eye, planned to flee Nigeria, but was caught by the police. Deann Igho married Sylvester barely a year ago and hoped to have a good marriage. Their affairs had started when she was a student at the University of Port Harcourt.

Their love affair blossomed, and they agreed to get married. However, Deann’s parents, siblings and relatives objected to her marrying Sylvester. Along the line, she got pregnant for Sylvester and her family didn’t have any choice but to grant her wish.

She moved in to live with Sylvester. Last year, she gave birth to a baby boy. Deann is Sylvester’s third wife. First, the man married about five years ago, and the marriage crashed after producing a child. He married again, but his second wife did not give him a child before they parted ways.

He then married Deann. The fight Sylvester returned home after being away for two weeks. A quarrel had ensued between him and the wife in the evening. To Deann, the matter was settled, but her husband did not want to let go. At night, Sylvester woke his wife from sleep and demanded that they talked.

His wife told him that whatever discussion there was had to wait till the morning, to avoid waking the baby, who had cough and catarrh. In a fit of anger, Sylvester stabbed her twice in the eye, locked the door and escaped. Since their home on Ada George Road, a developing part of Port Harcourt, is isolated, neighbours could not hear Deann’s cries. Writhing in pains and on the verge of bleeding to death, she managed to call her siblings in Lagos, on phone. She also called her parents and Sylvester’s parents, who also live in Lagos.

She also, in pains, captured her bleeding face with her Blackberry phone camera and sent them to those she called. Her family contacted their friends in Port Harcourt, Mr & Mrs. Castro, who broke the door and took her out. She was then taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for medical attention.

Nero Igho, Deann’s brother, who was in Lagos when he got this distress call, says he called Sylvester several times, but the latter refused to pick his call. After initial treatment, Nero took his sister to police area command, where the matter was reported. She was, thereafter, transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where by a team of three doctors confirmed that the eye was dead, after surgery.

On his experience, Deann said: “Sylvester used a knife to remove one of my eyes and locked the door against me so that I will bleed to death.” How Sylvester was arrested After the attack, Sylvester moved over to Lagos and was lodging in a hotel. While in Lagos, he told those who called him on phone that he was in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The bubble bust when someone spotted him and told Deann’s family. Nero traced him to the hotel and fooled him into believing that there was no problem, as they saw the matter as his trying time with his wife. He followed them home, where the police picked him up. The police said he would be transferred to Port Harcourt, where the crime was committed.

Sylvester’s plot to flee NigeriaIt was learnt that Sylvester actually planned to flee Nigeria, which was why he came to Lagos. He had made arrangements for an International passport, which he was waiting for before he was nabbed. While cooling off at Lagos Police Command cell, Sylvester blamed Satan for his action. He denied st**bb*ng his wife. According to him, the ceiling fan cut her wife’s eye. –dailypost

MADNESS:Jealous Wife Stabs Husband to death over Phone Call

The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 27 years old woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to d*ath in the Azikoro suburb of Yenagoa the state capital. The woman identified as Osas Omoregie according to eyewitnesses stabbed her spouse, Chukwuma Iwu over alleged marital squabbles.

It was gathered that trouble started when the wife of the deceased suspected he was having extra marital affairs due to his alleged late night outings.

The tragic incident which threw the rustic Azikoro settlement into mourning occurred last Friday when the deceased reportedly received a phone call which the wife suspected was from one of his lovers. The wife’s suspicion and anger over the phone call the source said, might have been fuelled by his alleged absence from home for two days.

“After returning late to his matrimonial home he received a phone call which the wife suspected was coming from his girlfriend and attempted to stop him from answering it”, the source added.

Consequently, a scuffle ensued and the deceased ordered his wife to move out of the house with her belongings, the source further said. Angered by the wife’s refusal to comply with his order the deceased was said to have reached for a kitchen knife ostensibly to frighten her but she was adamant.

Immediately he dropped the knife, the wife was said to have picked the said knife and stabbed the husband on the chest. The loud cry of the husband for help attracted neighbours who rushed to the scene and took him to the health facility in the community where he was confirmed d*ad. The woman it was learnt turned in herself to the police where she is currently in detention and assisting them in their investigation into the matter.

We Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunna (DSP) confirmed the incident saying the woman voluntarily gave up herself to the police. He said she would be charged to court for m*rder.

Jealous Woman Bathes Lover With Acid in Calabar(PHOTO)

The police in Calabar, Cross River State, have arrested a nurse, Dorothy Hayford Nkanu, who allegedly poured acid on her lover, Edmund Educhukwu (pictured above) on suspicion that he was dating another lady. Neighbours later rushed Edmund to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, where doctors have been battling to save his badly damaged face and left eye. The right eye was damaged beyond redemption.

Narrating his ordeal at the Intensive Care Unit of the UCTH, the final year student of Education Technology in the Faculty of Education at the University of Calabar said he and Dorothy have been lovers for some years and that they spent the night before the day of the attack together. “We even had passionate s*x that night. It was in the morning that she did this to me without any fight”.

On what may have prompted the lady to inflict such damage on his body, he said that “Dorothy had once complained that some people had told her that I was dating another lady whom I intend to marry and abandon her after these several years together. But I reassured her that it was not true that people were only trying to destroy our relationship. It did not occur to me that she was still harbouring the grudge”, he said. He said the morning the incident happened, they woke from bed without any sign of trouble and he led her on morning devotion.

“It was when I was rounding off the prayers with my eyes still shut that she sneaked out and brought the paint rubber where she hid the acid and poured it on me.” He said his girlfriend who is from Agwagwune in Biase area, Cross River State attacked him while he was not wearing a shirt, so that the acid would have maximum impact on his body. After pouring the acid on me she said “if the God you are praying to supports your plan, I will now see the woman that will accept you with your eyes blind and face destroyed’ and she ran away”.

Doctors at the UCTH confirmed that one of Edmund’s eyes had been completely destroyed while the second one could be salvaged. “He needs a skin transplant and adequate care for the other eye to be restored at least for him to see with it and that cannot be done here but outside this country, perhaps in UK or USA”, PMNews source said. DSP John Umoh, the Public Relations Officer for the Cross River Police Command said the woman has been arrested and is currently in detention.

A Yoruba Teenager, Stephen Ojerinola Stabbed and Beaten to Death In London

A Nigerian teenager living in London was stabbed, beaten unconscious and had concrete poured inside his body before being buried in a shallow grave under a shed, the Old Bailey has heard. It is alleged that Stephen Ojerinola, 18, was dumped in a makeshift grave in the back garden of one of the attackers following the brutal attack in Kidbrooke, South East London. Jurors were told that William Regan and Lee Davies, who are accused of murder, then erected a flatpack shed on top of the teenager’s burial site.

The court also heard that after arranging the ‘undignified and unlawful burial’, Regan phoned the victim’s girlfriend to ask whether she had seen him. Ojerinola’s body was not uncovered until seven months after he disappeared during a police visit to Regan’s home. Regan and Davies, both 36, are said to have attacked Ojerinola at some point on April 11 or 12 last year but it was not until November 20 that police unearthed his remains.

His body - encased in concrete - was discovered by a trained sniffer dog following more than a day of excavation in Regan’s garden, said prosecutor Max Hill. He added: “He was several feet down. Buried, therefore, beneath the shed, gravel, a tarpaulin, wooden boards, mixed rubble, loose soil and then the concrete. “As the team dug down, first his trainer shoe emerged from the earth and concrete. “Then a body, curled into a foetal position.

His arms were in fact around a ball of concrete, hardened after it had been poured inside his hooded top." “He had been placed in that grave to rot. The levels above him demonstrate the planning and effort put into concealing him and the callous disregard shown for this 18-year-old young man." “There was even, in fact, a Twix wrapper, discarded in one of the levels of his unlawful grave - discarded perhaps by one of those who worked so hard to ensure Ojerinola would never be seen by anyone again,” the prosecutor added.

Ojerinola was lured to Regan’s home on the pretext of selling his attacker drugs, the court heard. But instead, said Mr. Hill: “He found himself in the company of two men, both twice his age with a tendency to explode into violence and a predisposition to use weapons to inflict injury on others.”

'I will never see my kids' faces again': Tears of mother blinded by boyfriend

A mother whose eyes were gouged out by her partner today said that the hardest thing was knowing she would never see her children's faces again. Shane Jenkin, 33, who has a history of violence, subjected 32-year-old mother-of-two Tina Nash to a sickening 12-hour attack at her home in Hayle, Cornwall, leaving the attractive blonde completely blind.

Surgeons removed one eye and could not save her sight in the other, after the 'vicious' assault in which Ms Nash was suffocated and left with a broken jaw and nose, Truro Crown Court heard. Callous Shane Jenkin could turn like 'flicking a switch' and was on a five-year pub ban for violence.

He was excluded from a pub in 2010 after punching a policeman, a pubwatch chairman said and one Penzance barman said Jenkin had previously tried to gouge out a man's eyes during a brawl. Ms Nash faced the cameras for the first time today since the vile attack, after attending a hearing last year hiding behind large, dark sunglasses.

In a statement released after Jenkin admitted GBH with intent in court this morning, Ms Nash said she was glad he had 'at least taken responsibility for changing my life forever'.

She was Battered by her beast husband

I got the photo on the left yesterday but didn't upload it because I didn't have all the details. People who sent it to me said it was a woman brutalised by her husband, but they couldn't give me her name or when the incident supposedly happened.

So I really don't know what happened to her...but it's obvious that she was badly beating....by someone. Now, the other woman had her fingers slashed off by her husband who is a police officer. He was not arrested for the assault.

If you're a happily married woman, please re-assure some of us single ladies about this marriage thingy...because for the first time in a long time, I'm beginning to feel kinda happy that I'm single. The things I hear, see, even witness...it's beginning to get to me...

Trading Union Thugs Chop Off Unfaithful Trader's Thumb

Barely a week after the finger of Yinka Oyedele, a JSS3 student of Eric Moore Secondary School, Surulere, Lagos, was cut off by an SS1 student of Surulere High School, another victim has lost his finger to assailants.

The victim, a trader at Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos, 37-year old Ofoka Nnaji was attacked by suspected thugs who were allegedly hired by a faction of the traders’ union at the market.

The attack on Nnaji has rekindled the violent attack on traders by thugs at Aguiyi Ironsi International Trade Centre at Ladipo market Mushin, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

The latest attack on Nnaji was by the same thugs that allegedly attacked the Chairman of Mushin Local Government area, Mr. Babatunde Adepitan, recently.

Nnaji claimed that the men who attacked him inside the market used cutlasses to cut him on the head and other parts of his body before they cut off his finger and took it away.

He is pleading that his cut off finger should be returned to him so that he will bury it.

Nnaji said he went to the market with the hope that the Lagos State government had finally made peace with the warring factions after the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, was signed. Unknown to him, there was a group opposed to the peace initiative by the state government through the Ministry of the Environment.

He said immediately he went into the market on Thursday, he was identified by thugs he claimed that were brought from Southeast.

The victim said they accused him of opposing Chief Jonathan Okoli’s leadership and started beating him. He was macheted and his finger was cut off and taken away.

Mushin Council boss, Adepitan had alleged that it was Okoli that brought those thugs who attacked them because he did not want peace in the market.

He explained that the MOU was painstakingly made for peace to reign in the market and was accepted by the market stakeholders. He expressed shock that Okoli who was part of the peace deal pulled out and started fomenting trouble.

Okoli has denied sending thugs to attack anybody.

Recently, Adepitan and some Lagos State government officials comprising the Nigerian police and soldiers were attacked and chased away by a group opposed to peace in the market.

Adepitan insisted that the MOU must stand and reiterated his commitment to bringing peace to the market.

He said that Governor Babatunde Fashola, the State House of Assembly and all the security agents are aware of the matter and very soon the problem will be solved.

10-year-old school boy beats up two over 50-year-old teachers + broke one of the teachers’ leg

A 10-year-old schoolboy has been arrested over a vicious attack on two middle-aged women teachers, NEWSMEN has learned.

One teacher suffered a broken leg and a suspected dislocated kneecap and the other sustained facial injuries at the school.

The teachers, both in their 50s, were taken to hospital by ambulance following the alleged assault in Orpington, South East London, at 1pm on Thursday.

Staff called police who arrested the ten-year-old pupil on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The boy was taken to a nearby police station and questioned by specially-trained officers in the presence of an adult. He was bailed until the middle of next month.

The savage lunchtime attack shocked other staff and pupils at the school.

One source said: “The nature of the injuries was very serious.

“The officers who turned up were amazed when they discovered the suspect was only ten.

“It is a truly extraordinary thing to happen and makes you wonder what the world is coming to.”

Latest figures for 2010 show 251 teachers were assaulted by pupils in England and Wales. Forty-four had to go to hospital.

Almost half of all teachers in the UK leave the profession within five years after qualifying. The biggest reason they give for going is abuse, violence or the threat of violence from aggressive pupils.

Burned to death over a debt of $2,000

New York City police have arrested the man they believe burned a 73-year-old woman to death by dousing her in gasoline and setting her on fire in the elevator of her Brooklyn, New York, apartment.

Jerome Isaac, 47, is reportedly a disgruntled handyman who was angry over a $2,000 unpaid bill.

He was charged this afternoon with first-degree murder and arson, hours after he turned himself in to police reeking of gasoline. Police say Isaac waited for Ms Gillespie to return home from shopping. When the elevator door opened, he sprayed her in the face and across her body with gasoline and set her on fire with a Molotov cocktail.

The elderly woman cowered in the corner of the elevator and tried to shield herself, but neighbors say they heard her screams of agony as she burned to death after her alleged killer fled the scene.

The brutal attack semmed to be all over Isaac's unpaid bill after he worked for Ms Gillespie as a handyman, the New York Post reported. The fatal bill: $2,000, according to police. Isaac had lived with Ms Gillespie while he worked for her doing odd jobs.

When Ms Gillespie found out Isaac was stealing, she fired him, Rickey Causey, the victim's 52-year-old nephew, told the Post. 'He was doing more stealing than cleaning,' he said.

Isaac left a note on Ms Gillespie's door demanding payment for chores he had done, but the elderly woman didn't want to pay him after she caught him taking things from her, Mr Causey said. The horrifying attack lasted one minute and was caught on two surveillance cameras at the 203 Underhill Avenue apartment block.

Husband Strangles His Pregnant Wife for Denying Him S*x

But for the timely intervention of men of the Nigeria Police Force, Ajao Estate division, a Lagos-based businessman, Solomon Iwuchukwu, would have probably killed his beautiful wife whose pregnancy is already eight-months old, because of s*x.

His excuse: Mr. Iwuchukwu said since he returned from abroad, his pregnant wife had refused to have s*x with him.

He told the police that she locks her room and always refuse him entry and "she doesn’t come into my room to sleep, either."

54-year old Iwuchukwu who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, became a guest of the police when he forced his way into his wife's room, grad her on the neck and tried to have his way with the pregnant woman by force.

The policemen, acting on a tip off, raced to their house and stopped the husband before things could go out of control.

The shocked woman, identified as Ifeoma, said since her husband lost some money in a bad business he has turned her into a punching bag, despite her condition.

The 33-year old woman (pictured above), who told the police that she's an orphan, denied starving him of s8x. She said appeals by her relations to her husband to stop beating her fell on deaf ears.

Ifeoma however wondered why her husband would still be having s*x with her at this advanced stage of her pregnancy, when actually he knew her medical history of losing pregnancies before delivery.

“He doesn’t treat me as his wife at all and believes that I am his property to be used at will,” she cried.

Meanwhile, a non-governmental organisation, International Charitable Initiative for Girl-child and Women Foundation has stepped into her case.

The president of the Foundation, Barrister Helen Ibeji, described the action of the husband who is detained at at the station as inhuman and barbaric.

“A man should treat his wife with respect and dignity,” she stressed. Barr. Helen said her foundation decided to intervene in the matter in order to protect the woman and the unborn child.

Monarch, wife, killed in Kaduna

Despite the 24 hour curfew imposed in some parts of Kaduna State, the tension in the southern part of Kaduna State heightened yesterday, with the murder of the village head of Apiakashi in Takum District of Fanstuma Chiefdom, Chief Bulus Adamu and his wife, Ladi, allegedly by unknown Fulani gunmen, who also left two other persons critically wounded.

The Chiefdom, is about three kilometres, South of Kafanchan town.

Consequently, hundreds of half n*ked women from Kafanchan and other surrounding areas, marched through the streets in the early hours of yesterday, denouncing rising cases of unprovoked murder as well as the humiliation of innocent people by soldiers deployed to the area to maintain peace.

Saturday Vanguard reliably gathered that they thronged the main Kafanchan Police Station with bare-br*asts to protest the alleged atrocities of soldiers, and blaming some unidentified Fulani for killing their people.

State Police Commissioner, Mallam Bala Nasarawa confirmed the two incidents in a telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard, just as a source said that police men locked the gate to the police station while soldiers watched the women, who chanted Christain mourning hyms as sign of bereavement.

Mallam Nasarawa said, “It is true that some women are protesting against what has been happening here since peace left this town. But it is peaceful demonstration. It not true that all of them are leaving their br*asts open. Many are wearing their clothes complete. But some have refused to cover their own.’’

A native of Apiakashi, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on the death of the village head and his wife on the condition of anonymity said that the couple was killed at about 2am in the morning.

’’We heard gunshots in the early hours of this morning (yesterda), but we thought it was soldiers shooting to scare people who may have been wandering.

’’But later, we heard the voices of our people who were shouting and calling for help.

’’That was when we knew that we were under attack. Some of our men then mobilised ourselves and went on a rescue mission while others were sent to go and inform the police and soldiers.’’

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Nasarawa has relocated to Kafanchan in a bid to ensure that the situation was brought under control.

Woman poured petrol over a man for touching her br*ast

A Victorian woman who poured petrol over a man who touched her br*asts, resulting in fatal burns, has been jailed for seven years.

Gary Stewart, 50, was seen by several people touching the br*asts of Kerry Anne McNiven while she was passed out in November 2009.

A week later after drinking alcohol, McNiven, 44, of Wangaratta, stood behind Mr Stewart on the banks of the Ovens River in Wangaratta and poured two-stroke fuel over him.

He caught fire and died from burns several weeks later.

Sentencing McNiven on Tuesday, Victorian Supreme Court Justice Lex Lasry said it remained unclear how Mr Stewart caught fire.

"It is obvious that very soon after you tipped the liquid in the can over Gary, something caused that liquid to catch fire," he said.

"I am not sure how this happened."

Justice Lasry said it may have been that Mr Stewart or someone close by was smoking.

McNiven had a troubled and abusive background, he said.

He said it was clear alcohol had caused a great deal of harm in Aboriginal communities and had a very bad effect on McNiven.

He jailed McNiven for seven years with a non-parole period of four years.

McNiven has already served nearly two years in custody.

Segun was alleged to have used a rope and strangled Kudirat while she was asleep.

While Kudirat was struggling to save her life, Segun ensured that she died by using a broken bottle to stab her.

The incident happened at 3, Musa Street, Mushin, Lagos, in their family house.

The circumstance that led Segun to murder Kudirat was not clear yet. However, P.M.NEWS gathered that Segun had a quarrel with the late Kudirat after which he left their house.

Later, he returned while his mother was asleep and reportedly tied her neck with a rope and strangled her, broke a bottle and stabbed her all over her body.

She bled profusely and died before she could be taken to hospital. After that, Segun attempted to escape but he was held by their neighbours who handed him to the police.

The police later charged him to court.

Part of the charge reads: “That you, Segun Bakare did kill Mrs. Kudirat Bakare by stabbing her to death.”

The offence, according to the police, was contrary to section 319 of the criminal code cap 38, vol. 2 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2004.

When the matter came up at the court, the prosecutor, Inspector Ezekiel Ayorinde, informed the court that the nature of the crime was a capital offence and sought the permission of the court to seek the DPP’s advice.

Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. D. T. Olalokun ordered that he should be remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, Lagos pending when the DPP’s advice would be ready.

The matter was adjourned.
