Breaking News: Gunmen kill Kano lawmaker


Suspected gunmen Saturday night killed a lawmaker, Honourable Ibrahim Abba Garko, representing Garko constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.
 
The lawmaker was said to have been trailed by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle at his meeting point in Unguwa Uku before shooting him dead and injuring two others.Though details of the gruesome murder were sketchy as at the time of filing this report last night, sources revealed that the gunmen fled the scene after killing the lawmaker .

THISDAY gathered that the lawmaker who was chatting with his friend when the gunmen opened fire on them, shooting him on the head and chest, while two of his friends also sustained injuries from the attack.

The injured persons were said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment by the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) who arrived the scene of the attack.

It was also revealed that the combined team of security personnel later cordoned off the area with a view to arresting the suspected gunmen.
All efforts to contact the JTF spokesman, Captain Ikedichi Iweha or the Police spokesman ASP Musa Magaji Majia, to confirm the incident proved abortive as their telephones kept ringing without any response to the calls being made to them .

Gunmen Attack Police Station, Churches, School In Yobe

 Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba local government area of Yobe state, early hours of today, witnessed an attack by unknown gunmen who razed a police station to the ground, two churches and a primary school.

Three policemen were killed in the attack on the station and several weapons stolen.
According to residents of the town, the gunmen struck around 2:45am and burnt a church at Goni Shuaibu and another at Hayin Dogo as well as the Central Primary School and the Divisional Police station.

JTF spokesman, Lt. Lazarus Eli also confirmed the attack as he announced security beef up in the area “…JTF responded swiftly to the distress call and beefed up security in the town in order to forestall further attacks” he said.

Groom, Two Wedding Planners Shot Dead In Kano

 A groom, along with two friends was yesterday shot dead by gunmen, operating on a motor bike as they alighted from a car in front of a house, in Kawon Maigari area of Kano.The three gunmen came on a motorcycle and opened fire on their victims who had just parked outside a house, Kano state police spokesman Mustapha Abubakar said.

“They killed three, two men and a woman, while the fourth escaped unhurt,” he added.
According to Abubakar, one of the victims was engaged to the woman who escaped the attack at the Kawon Maigari area of the city.

The two other victims were friends helping the couple with their wedding plans.The spokesman revealed no arrest has been made although investigations were on-going.

No one knows for sure who was behind the attack, but there are indications it could be Boko Haram militants, who are known to often stage motor-bike attacks on security personnel and residents they accuse of providing incriminating information about them.

Gunmen kill 4 at beer parlour in Plateau

 Gunmen Sunday night killed four persons and injured seven others at a beer parlour popularly known as Burukutu Joint at Gindin Akwati in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of plateau State. 

The assailants were said to have opened fire on those at the beer parlour. The injured are receiving treatment at the Plateau Hospital.

The spokesman of the state police command, ASP Abu Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident, asked the residents of the area to remain calm, saying though no arrest had been made, the matter was being investigated.

He said one Ali Iliya had reported the gunfire at the Barkin Ladi Police Station in the early hours of yesterday, saying the assailants had escaped before the police got to the scene.

Gunmen kill 2 road safety officers in Kano

 Gunmen on Wednesday morning shot dead two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps along Madobi Road at the outskirt of Kano city. Another officer was seriously injured in the attack, state FRSC Sector Commander, SA Zaki  told Daily Trust.

The men were on morning patrol near Sani Abacha Youth Centre building when the attackers, who were riding on a motorcycle, fired on their official vehicle. One officer escaped the attack unhurt.

Men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in the state were said to have cordoned off the scene of the attack for possible arrests.

The killing occured less than 24 hours after gunmen shot and killed two policemen escorting vaccinators in another part of the state.
