Gunmen kill police inspector, civilian in Sokoto

Gunmen on Friday killed a police inspector and a civilian in Sokoto resulting in the tightening of security around the zonal police headquarters in the state where the incident occurred. The gunmen were said to have stormed the Marina police station early yesterday during which they killed the two persons.

There were also rumours of parcel bomb but the police have dispelled that. But confirming the killing, Sokoto State police commissioner, Aliyu Musa, gave the name of the deceased police officer as Inspector Adamu Sa’idu and the civilian, Sanusi Abdurrahman, a 20 year old tailor.

He said the gunmen were suspected to be armed robbers. According to him, on Tuesday night at about 10:30pm,there was a distress call by a good Samaritan that armed robbers were about robbing an area in Sokoto and that four armed men, Hamza Haruna, Zakari, Abdurrahman and Tukur, on two motorcycles, armed with AK 47 rifle blocked Sultan Abubakar road at Dadin Kowa area of Sokoto metropolis.

“A team of patrol policemen with squad men of the CID chased them when they ran away at a point towards Eastern Bye-pass. One of the machines carrying the robbers fell; as a result, the police recovered an AK47 rifle with the magazine fully loaded and Haruna Hamza was arrested who claim to have come from Kebbi State. Then the case was referred to CID yesterday”, he said.
