Tragedy was averted in Rumuekeni area of Rumusi community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, when an angry father, Mr. Sunday Kanuobi, 50, pummelled his 15-year-old daughter into coma, for perceived truancy and promiscuity.

It was gathered that prior to the incident yesterday, Kanuobi had warned his daughter to steer clear of young men and concentrate on her studies, all to no avail.
Our reporter’s
investigation revealed that the angry father pulled his daughter out of bed on Wednesday morning, and gave her the beating of her life in a last ditch effort to turn her on the right path.
A source in the compound said:
“In
the course of the beating, Eberechi passed out; her father discovered that she was no longer breathing. Neighbours who trooped to the scene confirmed that she was no longer breathing.
“The man ran away and came back later with a Pastor crying and begging the daughter to come back to live. With the help of God and the assistance of other pastors who were praying for the young lady, she later regained consciousness,” our source, who craved anonymity, added.
Our reporter, who visited the scene, was chased out by the angry father, who warned him to leave the house or face arrest and prosecution by the police for trespass.
Nevertheless, his neighbours, including one Chituga, said Kanuobi was fond of beating his wife and children even for the slightest offence, adding that the incident might have taught him a lesson.
Chituga said: “If hanging around with men is the basis of beating her then most of us would have sent our daughters to early grave before now. One thing he should know is that girls of these days cannot be controlled but as parent we can only try our best.”
