5 killed in Katsina car crash
Five persons were killed and two others sustained injuries following a road accident in Dutsin-ma local government area of Katsina State yesterday.
The accident, which involved a saloon Volkswagen Golf car, occurred at Mararrabar Safana.
The driver of the car, with registration number AH 636 FTA, was said to be on high speed and as a result lost control and rammed a nearby tree on a sharp bend, a witness said.
“Three persons, including the driver of the car died instantly, while two others sustained injuries”, the witness said.
Daily Trust learnt that the remains of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Dutsin-ma General Hospital, while the injured persons who were also taken to the hospital were receiving treatment.
The Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Dutsin-ma, DSP Iliyasu Ibrahim, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the police could not explain the identities as none of them had an identity card when the incident happened.
Eight die as bus plunges into river
AT LEAST, eight persons were feared dead weekend, including a candidate and two others suspected to be invigilators at the last Saturday’s UTME examination taken across the federation when the 18-seater bus they were travelling in plunged into Igu River in Ozu-Abam in Arochukwu local government areas of Abia State at about 4:30pm.
The bus is owned by Ohafia Local Government Mass Transit. Among the people who lost their lives were some people who went for their JAMB examination at the Federal Government School, Ohafia.
An eyewitness account said the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, forcing it to plunge into the river, popularly known as “Omenuko River.”
The villagers were said to have jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue some of the victims. The source said the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, at Ohafia was immediately contacted to also help in taking the injured to the hospital at Ohafia, while the dead were deposited at the mortuary.
The driver of the bus, Uyo Kalu, was later transferred to the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Four die in multiple accidents in Ogun
Tragedy struck yesterday at Papalanto-Ilaro junction in Ifo local Government area of Ogun state as no fewer than four persons lost their lives in a multiple accidents, while several others sustained serious injury.
Newsmen gathered that the first accident occurred at about 8.55am which involved a motorcycle whose number plate could not be seen and one articulated vehicle, otherwise known as trailer with number plate Lagos XQ47 EKY.
It was gathered that, the accident resulted inthe death of the motorcyclist whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
According to a source,the driver of the truck was on top speed beforehe lost control and rammed into the motorcyclist, which eventually led to his death on the spot.
The remains of the deceased ,according to the findings have been taken to the General Hospital Ifo. The second accident, which reportedly happened at about 10.30 am, claimed three lives at the place of the first accident.

XW937 AGL had brake failure and rammed into a bus markedLagos XT 708AAA. Accroding to her, three of the bus passengers, including two males and one female lost their lives on the spot while five others were said to be seriously injured.
The injured passengers were also taken to the General Hospital, Ifo and the remains of the deceased have taken to the hospital morgue.
The Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bakare Adesina , confirmed the incident and death, and attributed the two accidents to indiscriminate speeding.
He, therefore, charged all road users to be cautious while driving and also put their vehicles in good order before hitting the road.

Some people never believed that graduates in Nigeria are in deep trouble.
Today, I read about a tragic story in Ikere-Ekiti on Tuesday as the back of a trailer detached, hit an abandoned tanker and crushed a 27-year-old graduate selling roasted yam.
Although the lady was rescued and taken to a hospital immediately after the accident, she later died after about two hours.
The lady, Busayo Akogun, a graduate of College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, was said to be assisting her mother at a roadside kiosk when the accident occurred. Her mother was also said to have been crushed against the wall of a filling station and sustained a serious injury.

One of the eyewitnesses, Mr. Adekunle Olowolafe, said the legs of the mother were crushed.
Blood stains were seen in the rubble while personal effects of the victims littered the scene when our correspondent visited the area.
But the grill and the local oven on which the lady and her mother were roasting the yam were still standing while the roasted yams were well set on the grill.
Policemen and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who arrived the scene quickly evacuated the victims to a hospital.
But some of the sympathisers who assisted the officials later returned and said Akogun had died.
Also, two trailers and a Golf car were involved in another accident at Aramoko-Ekiti on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent on the telephone that the trailers collided and their impact affected the car.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh, who confirmed the accidents to our correspondent, said two persons were injured in the Ikere accident and nobody was injured in Aramoko.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka, who was among those who first visited the Ikere-Ekiti accident scene, has cautioned drivers to always obey traffic rules.
The deputy governor who noted that over speeding and lack of consideration for other road users was common among trailers’ drivers, warned them to be cautious on the road.
Ten die in auto crash
No fewer than ten people died in a fatal accident that occurred ,yesterday, in Isara, Saapade, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun state while eight people were seriously injured.
The accident occurred two days after a truck killed four passengers in Abule Olokuta near Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
The accident, according to an eye-witness, involved a Lagos bound 18-seater commercial bus with registartion number , Kebbi AA 189 AUG, fully loaded with passengers ,who were coming from Kebbi state.
The eye-witness, said that, the accident occurred when the bus rammed into a stationary articulated truck, popularly known as trailer with registration number, Lagos XV 512 EKY near Isara.
Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkedeme, had visited the accident scene and confirmed the death of ten people.
Adejobi through an SMS message, stated that, the injured passengers have been admited at Olabisi Onabanjo Univeristy Teaching Hospital, OOUTH.
18 students in ghastly accident, as tanker crushes man to death
A load of 18-seater bus carrying students of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State on Tuesday somersaulted several times on Kobape road, along Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway in Obafemi Owode local Governmentarea of Ogun state, leaving three of them critically injured while others sustained various degree of injuries.
Also almost at the same time, Tragedy struck at the Aripako compound Oke-Sokori,in Abeokuta as one of the sons of the family, Nureni Makinde 30, was killed by a petrol tanker.
NEWSMEN gathered that, the students were on their way to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in continuation of their peaceful protest against the recent scrapping of their university by the state government when the front tyre of one of their buses suddenly burst and veered off the road thereby somersaulting severally.
According to eye witness, all the students were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta where three of them were said to have sustained serious injuries.
When NEWSMEN got to the hospital, there was anxiety over the condition of some students who were identified as Olayemi Alaka, 300 level student of Mass Communication, Oyewole Moshood, 400 level Telecommunication,while the condition of one Fashina Olatunji (Humble TJ), 400 level, Health Education, was said to be a state of coma.
Speaking with newsmen at the FMC, Idi Aba, President of the Students’ Union, Oyekanmi Abdullahi, said the students were on their way to meet and plead with the state governor, Commissioner for Education as well as the Chief Judge of the state to rescind the decision that scrapped their university.
He however stated that the students were resolute in their demand to force the state government to reverse its decision on the planned conversion of TASUED to an institution under the Faculty of Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.
Meanwhile, a 30 year old man and father of three, Nureni Makinde has been killed in his family compound by a petrol tanker.
According to an eye witness, the accident occurred at about 10:15am Tueday, when the petrol tanker took a one-way lane due to the on-going road re-construction project at Ibara/ Ita Eko/ Totoro road
and crushed Nureni, who was crossing the road.
10 killed in Edo car accident
TRAGEDY struck, when not fewer than 10 persons lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident after Okada town, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
NEWSMEN gathered that the accident, which occurred at about 12.45pm, involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus, which was said to have skidded off the road following a burst tyre.
Eye witness account said the bus lost its tyre while on high speed causing the driver to lose control of the bus, which eventually somersaulted.
According to the eyewitness, “the bus was coming from Lagos, and just after Okada town, it became uncontrollable, skid off the road and fell into a valley. This was followed by a loud noise and by the time we rushed to the scene, we found out that the bus was mangled already.”
However, another source confirmed that about 14 persons, including some members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who were returning for their monthly clearance, lost their lives in the accident. At the time of this report, good spirited Nigerians and sympathizers were still rescuing trapped victims.
Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in the state, Mr. Henry Olatunji, confirmed the incident but said that the Command was awaiting full report on the number of victims from their Toll Gate command.
19 die in Benin-Ore road crash
Yesterday Dec 1 2011, 19 people lost their lives along the Benin-Ore road in a tragic auto accident that involved a bus belonging to Hope Express Transport Company, and a tanker.
Eye witnesses said the tanker driver abandoned his lane, crossed the pavement to the other lane and collided with the Hope express bus in high speed.
Only one passenger in the bus survived. The tanker driver has since been arrested for reckless driving.
The bus was traveling from Lagos to the East.
Gov’s wife rescues accident victims
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of the Governor of Oyo State, has reportedly come to the aid of 10 victims of a road accident, which occurred near Iperu Junction, on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.
The vehicle conveying the victims collided with a truck at a road diversion.
Mrs. Ajimobi, who was returning to Ibadan from a women’s conference in Lagos, reportedly supervised the rescue operation.
Eight adults and two children were rescued from the scene of the crash and were taken to the General Hospital in Iperu-Remo for first-aid treatment before being moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
However, it was learnt that three of the victims were taken to the Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan for intensive care.
Ajimobi promised to provide financial assistance to the victims.

he was involved in an auto crash, which rendered part of his body paralysed, including his manhood.
The tragic accident, which occurred on June 2005, has devastated the father of four. His condition caused so much tension in the home that he resorted to divorce. He recently sought relief at Otto-Ijanikin Customary Court, asking for the formal dissolution of their 26-year-old marriage.
In court, the visibly embittered man narrated, amid uncontrollable tears, the rejection, sojourn and anguish he has gone through in the hands of his wife. He accused his wife of infidelity and lack of care.
Recounting how it all began, he said: ‘’I got married to Kashimawo at age of 26, just like every other marriageable man. Although I wouldn’t say our marriage was rosy because there is nothing like a perfect marriage, but we resolved our minor quarrels and fights amicably. I had also noted that my wife was money conscious. She is easily carried away by material things.
“Trouble began in 2005 when we both had a road accident on our way to my home town. After the accident, I lost consciousness but was revived days later. I discover that some parts of my body were seriously affected. I couldn’t move my legs and hands. After my discharge from Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH), I was taken to a local bone healer, who also administered her own healing powers on me.”
After months of intensive care and bones massage, Sodiq was brought back home. He said that on his return, his wife turned against him, revealing that she became a regular guest of Ada-loko Police Station, Badagry, owing to quarrel with people.
Lamenting further, he said: “When I returned from the hospital, my wife worsened my predicament by making life uneasy for me. She picks quarrels and fight over minor issues, and anytime any of the children want to intervene she would beat the hell out of him or her. The most recent fight she had was with our last-born, a 15-year-old girl. Yemisi confronted her for daring to hit me and a big fight ensued. Not satisfied with the beating she merciless dealt on the little girl, Kashimawo went ahead and set all the poor girl’s cloth ablaze.”
Sodiq told the court that the most painful part of his experience was his initial inability to perform his marital duties due to the damage the accident caused his manhood. He however revealed that he started feeling a bit of life in his below region, as the bone healer kept massaging all his body, which later resulted in him having erection.
He continued: “For the first few months, my wife was responding to my desire for s*x. Whenever I feel a little bulge in my manhood, I quickly beckon on my wife for a little intimacy. We manage the weak erection to our best satisfaction. But along the line, she started withdrawing and was no longer giving me the attention I sought. I confronted her. She bluntly told me that my half dead manhood could no longer satisfy her. She said that it only tickles and leaves her high and dry. Consequently, she would no longer grant me my conjugal rites. All pleas to make her pity my predicament fell on deaf ears, as she callously insisted on s*x-starving me. It is over six years now since I had an erection, not to mention s*x.
“As if that punishment wasn’t enough, I have been hearing rumors of her illicit romance with other men and how she has been gallivanting with other street boys. Some of them even have the nerves to come looking for her in our shop, even in my presence. Each time I confront her, she wouldn’t waste much time in tongue lashing me, calling me all sort of names. I am fed up with everything and can no longer cope. I urge this honorable court to grant my prayers for the formal dissolution of this absurd marriage to save me from untimely death and help my kids secure their future.”
On the other side of the coin, it was a twist of tale as Mrs. Kashimawo Akinwale relayed her own part of the story. She accused her husband of being responsible for their marital crisis owing to his recent predicament.
The middle aged woman, who openly admitted not knowing her age, claimed that her estranged husbands was quick tempered, jealous and suspicious, which she said were eating up the love and peace they once shared as one happy family.
“I own up to my inability to meet up with the demands of my husband in his recent health conditions, but he is not helping matters at all. He gets irritated and angered over flimsy excuses and when he does that whatsoever one says to him would become a very big offence. Based on that problem, his family abandoned him to his fate, but that notwithstanding, I still love my husband and would wish to let him go,” she asserted.
After listening to both parties, the presiding member of the court, Chief S. K Hussein, tried to broker, but all his efforts failed. Therefore, the marriage was formerly dissolved and N28, 000 was awarded the respondent for self-maintenance. Both parties were advised to maintain peace, orderliness and stay out of each other’s ways.

The driver of the car, apparently the head of the family, lost control when one of the tires of the car burst while driving pass the Tamburawa bridge, about 30 km from Kano.

Mother, child crushed to death in Ibadan
A woman and her child were on Saturday morning crushed to death by a DAF truck at Oje Area of Ibadan, Oyo State when they fell down from a commercial motorcycle popularly referred to as Okada.
According to eyewitnesses’account, the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta car had parked and suddenly opened the door of his car, oblivious of the oncoming motorcyle.
The okada man reportedly fell with the woman and her child who were his passengers when the car door hit them.
An oncoming DAF truck with registration number Lagos XQ 362 BDG was reported to have run over the hapless passengers, killing the woman immediately, with the child seriously injured, while the rider sustained minor injuries.
The child was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was said to have given up the ghost before those who rescued her got to the hospital.
The drivers of the car and the truck immediately fled the scene to avoid mob action, while the angry crowd set the Jetta car ablaze.
It was gathered that it took some time before the Divisional Police Officers of both Yemetu and Agugu Divisions, who went to the scene of the incident, could restore calm to the area.
Police sources however said that the owner of the Jetta car later reported at Yemetu Police station, saying that he had given the car to his mechanic to effect some repairs.
Meanwhile, two people suspected to have mobilised people to burn the Jetta car have been arrested by the police while the corpses of the victims had been taken away by family members.

About a two minutes ago, a fatal accident that seriously wounded many occurred along Ikeja Railway side.

Motorbike rider who was said to have swung to where Fashola's bus was packed, hit his head and fell to the ground.
An oncoming Danfo, coming behind, manoeuvred so as not to crush the okada man, got his car, filled with 12 passenger, smatched to the BRT bus and about 9 from the passengers sustained serious injuries including a pregnant woman.
All effort to reach the appropriate authority to come for the rescue of the victims was aborted as one hour after they promised to come, the people were still lying helplessly beside the road where they're moved to by good Samaritans.
