Robbers Arrested During Argument Over How To Share What They Have Stolen(Photo)

Three members of a robbery gang were caught by Special Anti Robbery Squad of Agbodo Police Division.The robbers who after  had robbed some houses in Owonikoko and Ayinla areas around 2am on Monday, stealing money and phones, among other household items converged on a street in Ayinla arguing on how to share what they have stolen when a resident saw they and made a call to the police.

Twenty-one-year old Elede, who hails from Ekiti State, confessed to the crime, adding that he had been into robbery for three years.He said,

“I was initially selling cannabis, but I joined a robbery gang three years ago when I was not making enough money from the drug. We were seven in number bearing Oyenusi; I am Oyenusi 07. We robbed a banker of N7m early this year around RAFCO, Agbado. We killed him because he confronted us. I got N650,000 in that operation. The six others have been killed.
“We were six in the Monday night operation. I was given four phones and a sum of N2,000 as my share. There was an argument between Ramon, Sule, J.J, Absorber and I over the sharing formula. We were on it when the policemen came. Ete was not involved but he is my friend.”

Yekini, a 28-year-old indigene of Ibadan, said he took to robbery to raise money to pay the rent for the shop, where he worked as a barber.

He said, “I was introduced to the gang by a friend called Anu when I told him I needed N24,000 to pay my shop rent. I tried in vain to borrow the money from my neighbours.
“This is my first operation and my role was to stay outside to watch for other members robbing residents. I collected the four phones and N500 they gave me without arguing with them. I really regret what I did.”

Ete, who is a cobbler, said he was not culpable of the offence, adding that he was just a friend of Elede. However, the police said his fate would be determined after the investigation.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.

Police Arrest 4 Suspects Of Ikorodu Robbery

The Lagos division of the Nigeria police has been bursting crimes lately. After nabbing the robbers that wrecked havoc on Lekki lately, they have again  nabbed four suspected members of an armed robbery gang that robbed two banks in Ikorodu on June 24. The criminals have been arrested by a special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives in Lagos, south-west Nigeria.
A confirmed source told Channels Television’s crime correspondent, Bola Frazer, that the suspects were picked up in Ondo and Lagos States.

The robbers had on June 24 attack banks around Ebute Road, Ogolonto bus-stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

An eyewitness told Channels Television that she saw at least four men, who were not wearing masks loading money into a Sienna van on the road, as the robbery was going on.

Prisoners who escaped during Ekiti jail break re-arrested for armed robbery(photos)

This goes to show that a leopard never changes his spot. After managing to escape prison, these robbers failed to abstain from robbery and have been re-arrested again. Two criminals, Banji Adedayo(40) and Tope Daramola (45) who escaped prison during the Ekiti-state jail break in December 2014 have been re-arrested by the Ondo state police command for armed robbery. Parading the men alongside other criminals before newsmen today, the Ondo state police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, said the suspects, after escaping from prison, joined a five man armed robbery gang that have been terrorizing Akure since March this year.

They were apprehended after they robbed one Mr. Remidayo Komolafe of his Toyota Sienna Bus with Reg. No. KJA 790 CH, valued at N1.6 million on Ondo Road in Akure. They also forcefully collected five mobile phones from the victim, valued at N200,000 as well as other possessions. “Upon police interrogation [the men] confessed to the crime and other robbery cases, including an Ekiti State bank robbery, and both were inmates who escaped from Ekiti jailbreak,” he said.

Police Nab Man Who Uses Monkeys And Snakes For Robbery In Lagos

Next time you see a free show where trained animals are displaying dance moves or other activities , be careful because it could just be an organised show for robbery.27-year-old Mohammed Nafiu, who uses monkeys and snakes to rob people of their money and valuables has been arrested by the police in Lagos, alongside his monkey.

The Kano State-born Nafiu, while speaking with the police, said he initiated this method of robbery operation some years ago with his accomplice, Nura, who is still at large.
“We trained the animals to obey our instructions. On a single command, the animals attack whoever we want to rob and we are able to take whatever valuable they have on them, especially money,” Nafiu said.

Nafiu, married with three children, was a farmer and native drug vendor before coming to Lagos in 2005.

“I learnt there were many Hausa people in Lagos, so I decided to come with my monkey which I had been using for monkey shows in Kano,” he said.

A police source said on the day Nafiu was arrested, he and his accomplice had two monkeys in their Nissan Primera and were trailing a man who had just come out of a popular bank in Ogba, Lagos state. The man was said to be holding a nylon bag containing money.

On sighting their next victim, they went after him, unleashed their two monkeys on him and dispossessed him of N230,000 cash.

Nafiu said,

 “When we attacked the man, he was overcome with fear, so we collected the money from him. As we were about leaving, having realised what was happening, people started throwing stones and several objects at us. Nobody could move near because they were also afraid of the monkey. Only Nura could escape. When the stoning became too severe, I could not escape and eventually, police came and arrested me and my monkey.”

Nafiu admitted that they had two snakes and two baboons, which they used to scare and harass their victims and have made a lot of money using this strategy .

"One of the monkeys has been arrested and we are still trailing the other suspect and the other animals,” a police officer said.

2,123 Police Officers Deployed to Protect The President While Robbers Robbed Lekki Bank- Fashola

March 12 was a day not to be forgotten in Lagos state as armed men dressed in army uniforms stormed the First City Monument Bank in Lekki, killing police officers and innocent citizens.
Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola has said that over 2,123 police officers that would have helped to prevent the recent dreadful bank robbery in the state were all deployed to protect President Goodluck Jonathan when he visited the state.

Fashola, who said this yesterday at the 2015 Agriculture Value Chains Empowerment programme, lamented that the president’s visit to the state had paralyzed the state security apparatus to a large extent as a result of which it could not deal with the armed robbery.
He said nearly all the vehicles bought by the state government for the police to enable them respond rapidly to crime were on alert for the president.

Fashola said, “When the president came to Lagos last Thursday, while citizens were being robbed, the president was protected by 2,123 security personnel.

“Let me be very clear, the president is entitled to every protection; he’s our president, but the question to ask is that, when you were being traumatized yesterday, where were these 2,123 men, because you are also entitled to be protected. The reason why the president gets all that protection is so that he can protect all of us”.
Fashola said he was also displeased by the reports of violence and harassment of innocent citizens on Monday during a protest by members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Coalition of Concerned Nigerians loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Armed Robbers Attack Big Church, Rob Pastors

 On Monday night, a 6-man robbery gang stormed the popular Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sabo Oke in Ilorin, Kwara state

 They reportedly robbed the entire resident pastorate living in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cathedral of their belongings.

 A source, who pleaded anonymity, said the pastorate was robbed of laptops, trinkets and unspecified amount of money.

 The bandits were said to have come in search of the proceeds of the funds raiser of the church which took place on Sunday.

 They were said to have scaled the fence of the church from the back, overpowered the five private guards on duty and tied them with ropes.

One of the security guards, who pleaded anonymity, said the robbers commandeered one of them to lead them to the church’s strongroom.

 He said, “The robbers use diggers, sledge hammers and an axe to break the safe but did not find any money there.

 “The disappointed robbers commandeered one of us to take them to the vicarage. The robbers then ordered the vicar (names withheld) to bring out the church money or they would shoot him dead.”

 The security man said one of them had to plead with the robbers, who were ready to shoot the cleric, that the vicar did not keep the church money and only relied on his salary.

 He added that the robbers reluctantly released the vicar and later robbed the entire vicarage and left after operating for about three hours.

According to reports, an ex-convict who was released from prison four moths ago after spending 7 years in kirikiri has been arrested again by men of the Lagos state Police command after he and his gang snatched a car in the Yaba area of Lagos.

According to Vanguard, Faruk Lawal and his gang snatched a car from its owner while the owner was having sex to a woman inside his car along Morrocco street in the Alade area of Yaba in Lagos.

Parading Faruk and one of his gang members at the state Police headquarters in Ikeja yesterday Sept. 23rd, the state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, said the young men where arrested after a distress call was put across to them of a car theft incident at the Yaba axis of Lagos.

"Two armed robbers, named Babatunde Makinde and Faruk Lawal, were arrested. A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of one double barrel pistol, two single barrel pistols and 28 live cartridges. The suspects confessed to have snatched the vehicle from its owner at gunpoint in Alade area of Yaba few hours before they were arrested and that the third gun belongs to one Dayo, a member of their gang who narrowly escaped arrest. Investigation is still ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing gang members.”
While being interrogated, Faruk expressed sadness he was heading back to prison.
"I never wanted to go with them. If I had listened to my instinct, I would not have been involved. It means I am returning to prison where I spent seven years. I was released just four months ago with a promise to turn a new leaf" he said

Former Prostitute, Sherifat Bakare Gets Arrested For Armed Robbery

Twenty-four-year-old Sherifat Bakare(pictured in the middle) who recently quit prostitution and joined the gang was arrested together with four accomplices by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta on Wednesday, May 21.

According to Bakare, she was hustling before Raji, my boyfriend, when he asked her to join his gang a few weeks ago. Another gang member, Bola Onasile, (also in SARS custody) had approached her boyfriend about the availability of N70m in a wealthy man’s house in Joju area of Sango, Ogun State.

Sherifat Bakare stated that she only gone on two operations with them adding that she only knew that Onasile was the one who brought the job.

When Raji gathered other members, they snatched a car, a Nissan Quest, around Iwo Road, Ibadan which was used for the operation. But, their operation went wrong as police cornered them and Raji was shot dead.

"I am from Idofian in Kwara State. My father is late but my mother lives in Ibadan. She has no idea I do this kind of job and she does not even know I am in police custody."

Bakare explained that she was a prostitute in Lekki where she was making up to N5,000 per day until about two years ago.

"I was living with a security guard in a house at Osborne in Ikoyi. The landlord of the house was out of the country. I was going from there to ‘hustle’ in Lekki every night.

"Raji was a good helper to me. That was why I decided to leave prostitution when he begged me. When he introduced me to armed robbery, I asked him if there would be no problem and he assured me that there would be none. When we started dating, I did not know he was an armed robber though."

The young lady said she learnt photography when she dropped out of secondary school but had not been able to practise the trade because she did not think she could make much money from it.

According to 36-year-old Onasile, who brought the N70m job, an acquaintance of his, a man named Tunde, informed him about the money.

Onasile who was a revenue collector for a local government council in Lagos before he lost the job said, “Tunde is like a brother to me. He told me the man we were going to rob was his relation. He said the man had N70m at home. I told him I had no boys who could do the job. But he was always disturbing me about getting a gang together to do the operation.

"Few days later, I informed Raji about the operation and he told me he could get boys for the job. We planned to sell the vehicle we snatched after the operation but we did not know how police got to know about the operation. Tunde ran away when the police were after us."

According to him, he got a job as a site thug getting assignments from land grabbers once in a while but the money was not coming as needed.

Meanwhile, a gang of robbers, who specialised in snatching motorcycles have been apprehended by the SARS in Ogun State after an under cover operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, more members of Bakare’s robbery gang are still out on the streets. He said investigation was still ongoing to ensure that they did not escape justice.

The wives of the gang members were also arrested because they admitted that they knew their husbands were robbers.

SHOCKING : Robbers Raid 8 Lagos Streets, R*pe, Destroy 30 Cars In A 7-Hour Rampage

 According to a report by Punch, armed robbers numbering about 60 stormed 8 different streets in the Mushin area of Lagos in the early hours of Monday morning and operated unchallenged for about 7 hours. The hoodlums, who reportedly belonged to two cult groups – Akala boys and Toheeb’s gang – ravaged New Balogun, Euba, Ayonuga, Tiamiyu, Haruna, Ereko, Oyedele streets and Coker Lane. A mosque on Coker Lane was not spared as the worshippers, who slept in the mosque after a vigil, were robbed by the hoodlums.

One of the people in the mosque told Punch that the robbers fired bullets for over one hour before robbing from house-to-house. Continue...

He said, “It was around 12am on Monday morning that we started hearing gunshots. It lasted for about an hour. Around 1am, they started going from house-to-house, robbing the occupants. They stole about seven laptops from the house opposite this mosque. They stole phones, money and everything they saw. They came inside the mosque and took our phones and money. People were crying throughout the night. It was terrible.”

Another witness said the robbers were not in a haste. He said they robbed till 5am and came back at 6am to continue before leaving around 7am.

A Punch correspondent observed that a generator was also removed from its shed by the robbers. Vehicles parked on the streets were vandalised by the robbers, just as two Toyota Hilus van were burnt.

A Punch correspondent counted 20 vehicles, but some residents said about 10 damaged cars had been taken away by their owners for repairs.

Kasali Daramola, a driver who spoke while fighting back tears, told our correspondent he owned one of the burnt vehicles.

He said, “This is the third time they will do this to me. What have I done to them? The first was a Lexus car my younger brother bought for me, which I was planning to sell to acquire a commercial bus to take care of my four kids and wife. I sold the scrap for N30, 000. I used the money I raised to get a bus and I was paying for it by installment. I have not finished the payment when they destroyed it.”

Daramola said the men entered his house and some of the ladies living there were raped.

He said attempts to bring in the police were abortive as they kept saying they were on their way without showing up.

A resident said, “For over five years now this area has not known peace. Will the police say they cannot do anything about it? Around 7am that policemen came here, they still saw some of those robbers around, but did not do anything. Why? I believe the police know all the people causing trouble here and if they want to do something, it doesn’t take them anything.”

Tosin Gbolahan, a resident, said a policeman attached to Alakara Police Station was with the hoodlums on Monday morning.

He said the hoodlums took advantage of a carnival that was held the previous night on Ojo Street to perpetrate the havoc.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back, but she had yet to do so as of press time.

I joined armed robbery because the N50k they pay me at events was small

Thirty-six-year-old Jonathan Nsirim is not your usual armed robbery suspect. His melodious voice, well built physique and ability to play almost any musical instrument is enough to endear him to any audience.

Investigations by the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, however, revealed that although the musician performed at weddings during the day time, he was robbing banks at night.He said although he charged N50, 000 to perform at events, the money was not regular and he often had to share the pay with other members of his band.

He said,

 “I sing all genres of music and I even have my own band known as Masterpiece Band. I am also a professional dancer; my stage name is Original. I perform at weddings, night clubs and other social gatherings. Sometime in 2012, I went to Beach Land Estate, Apapa to perform at a function. That was where I met Confidence and we exchanged telephone numbers.Two weeks later, he called me for a meeting and asked me what I wanted most in life, I said I wanted my music career to succeed and I needed money to buy music instruments. He said he would get me out of poverty.

He said we would be robbing bank ATMs but no one would get killed. He gave me two days to think about the deal but warned me that once I joined, I would not be allowed to leave. I accepted the deal because I needed to buy the instruments and Confidence introduced me to the leader, Onuoha.”

During the first robbery on one night, Onuoha pretended that he wanted to withdraw money from a bank on Malu Road, Ajegunle. On getting inside, they tied up the security guards and I carried a gas cylinder into the bank premises and we burnt the ATM. My share was N250, 000.

We robbed another bank at Idimu, my share was N350, 000. We also robbed a filling station around LASU-Igando Road. I   was able to use my share to buy musical instruments since that was why I took to robbery in the first place. After buying instruments, I used the remainder to take care of my wife and two kids

The last robbery was at a bank in Ayobo. We hid in a nearby bush, waiting for Onuoha, Confidence and Bassey, who had entered the bank, to give us a signal as usual.

But we heard gunshots and we all fled. It was after I was arrested that I was informed that three policemen were killed. I did not carry any gun; I cannot kill a human being, God forbid.”

Armed Robbers Attack Police station, Beat And Collect Guns From Policemen

A gang of armed robbers, yesterday, attacked Makarfi Divisional Police Station, in Makarfi, the headquarters of Makarfi Local Government Council of Kaduna State disarming all the policemen at the station.

According to a policeman, who spoke to some reporters, but pleaded for anonymity, the robbers numbered between 25 and 30.

Said he: “I was just about to go in and check some detainees when I heard gunshots. I rushed out to be face-to-face with bandits in flowing caftans, and some in tattered army uniforms shooting into the air and ordering us to come out and lie down on the road.

“They then started throwing explosives into the police station. The ground was shaking. They later moved to the bank (about 100 metres away) and started shooting and throwing explosives. Some of the robbers were standing over us, while the rest were at the bank.

“I don’t know the time they all left because they left one after the other. They may have been there for an hour. Later, we saw a military vehicle with soldiers and Mobile Policemen. We told them what happened and they drove eastwards, also shooting into the air,” he said.

“As far as I know, no one was injured, though they beat up some of us. I also heard they could not get any money from the bank.

“I want you to please tell government to give us surveillance and communication equipment. We are just here facing danger everyday. If the armed robbers had wanted, they could have killed all of us, because they had better arms, and were more in number.”

Female UNILAG Graduate, Chioma, Caught Leading Robbery Operation In Lagos

They say whatever a man can do, a woman can do better. Women are taking over arm robbery operations in Nigeria these days. It seems prostitution is no longer paying some wayward ladies as much as they expect, hence the decision to take to the dangerous trade of armed robbery.

This is the case of Chioma Ezekwesiri, a Law graduate from the University of Lagos.

Chioma, who leads a 7-man robbery gang, was arrested with her gang members during an operation by SARS operatives after they received a distressed call from Bolatito Hotel in the Ijaiye area of Lagos.

According to police report, Chioma and her boys stormed the hotel after receiving tips that a customer who just sold 8 million naira worth of fertilizer was staying at the hotel.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad team immediately surrounded the hotel and searched all its occupants. In the process, 2 guns and 12 live ammunition were found on the robbery suspects.

SHAME!!! : Senator’s Son Arrested For Armed Robbery

The son of Senator Femi Kila from Ekiti State, has been arrested in the FCT, Abuja, for his involvement in armed robbery operation in the city.

 Identified as Ola Kila, he was said to have led a gang of armed robbers to rob a Colonel at Mbora Estate by Jabi District of Abuja, where the Colonel's AK-47 and other valuable items were carted away.

 But Ola Kila denied participating in the robbery, saying it was one Igbo boy.

 According to police sources, operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, working on a tip-off arrested him and while a search was conducted in his house around Life Camp area in Abuja, 16 live cartridges and some other incriminating exhibits were recovered from the suspect’s house.

 During interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect allegedly belong to a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing the FCT and its environs.

 But Ola Kila insisted that his friend, an Igbo boy, whom he knew to be a member of a robbery gang brought the gun and the cartridges to his house and that the boy has gone back to the East with to bring more arms and ammunition.

 He disclosed that the said Igbo boy brought two laptops robbed at gun point to him, which he sold to buyers in the city's popular GSM Village, Abuja.

 He also alleged that the said Igbo boy robbed a man at Life Camp and shot him, sometime in May, earlier this year.

 Ola Kila and another suspect have been remanded in prison by Karu Area Magistrate Court pending further investigation and the arrest of the said Igbo boy.

Police Arrest ’Spirit’ In Kano

The Kano State Police Command, yesterday, announced the arrest of a ‘spirit’ that engages in extorting money from the members of the public by imposing fear in them via telephone calls.

Briefing journalists at the Bompai headquarters of the command, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim K. Idris, explained that the ‘spirit’ turned out to be one Alhaji Nura Hamza, a resident of Kurna Asabe Quarters in the state.

Idris explained that the suspect had taken advantage of the fear imposed in his victims by his status as a ‘spirit’ to cause them to source money and deposit same in a nearby bush, on an anthill, for spiritual purposes.

He added that the complainant in this particular case, after depositing N800,000 as directed by the ‘spirit,’ decided to confide his fate in a relative, who quickly alerted him that he was being duped.

According to him, following the report of the serial extortion to the police, detectives swung into action, luring the ‘spirit’ to the same destination on the anthill, where he had always directed his victims to drop the cash.

The bait, Idris said, yielded the needed result as the ‘spirit’, upon his arrival, turned out to be a human being, adding that the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

He added: “When the suspect was interrogated, he confessed that he committed the offence. The cell phone used in intimidating and cheating the victims was found in the suspect’s possession.”

The police boss said when the home of the suspect was searched, seven pieces of fake US$100, three bundles of paper cut to size of US $100, four MTN SIM cards, three motorcycles, a generating set and one mobile phone line were recovered as exhibits by the police.

He disclosed that investigation into the incident was still on while adding that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.

Idris urged the public to report to the police any receipt of strange phone calls from unknown persons making strange requests, adding that the police had devised means of unraveling and arresting such criminal activities.

In a similar vein, the commissioner explained that the police had arrested 147 suspects in the last two weeks for alleged offences ranging from motor vehicle theft to possession of dangerous weapons and possession of fake local and foreign currencies.

He added that during the same period, 60 rounds of live cartridges, 15 rounds of 9mm, one magazine with 30 rounds of live ammunition, a toy gun, one locally made revolver pistol and one locally made pistol were recovered.

According to him, the gallantry, professionalism and commitment of his men in synergy with the Joint Security Task Force led to the reduction of crime and criminal activities in the state, adding that economic and social activities were gradually returning to normal.

How a Robbery Gang Uses Sleeping Drugs on Unsuspecting Passengers on Commercial Buses

For those who accept water or other food items offered by unknown passengers in commercial vehicles, you must be careful as there are robbery gangs that now make use of this opportunity to rob unsuspecting passengers.

This has been discovered after the arrest of five members of a notorious robbery gang by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command. The gang specialized in drugging unsuspecting passengers in commercial buses before dispossessing them of their valuables. Unlike their other partners who use their vehicles to perpetrate the heinous crime, the arrested suspects, as gathered, would board commercial buses and position themselves strategically to actualize their devilish act.

The way they operate includes trailing their targets either from the bank, or public places, right into a commercial bus. According Crime Guard, seven members of the gang would board same bus with their target while another would pose as a sachet water hawker. Unknown to their target the sachet water have all been sedated. One of them would then pretend to buy a sachet water from their gang (hawker), offering N20 note, only to be told there is no N10 note for his balance.

Pretending to be nice, the buyer would take another sachet of water and offer to their target, with the explanation that he did not want his money to be left with the hawker. And immediately their target drinks the water, he would fall asleep and in the process, have his valuables dispossessed of.

The gang however met its waterloo after a failed attempt to sedate one of its victims in Ikeja area of the state recently. Consequently, three members of the gang were apprehended. A Police source at SARS said “We have been on their trail for two weeks now. We got information that the same gang had robbed someone on his way from Ikeja to Yaba and the case was reported at Sabo police station. Driver of that bus and his conductor were initially accused of conniving with the robbers but after proper investigation, they were released with stern instructions to be on the look-out for members of the gang.

“Unfortunately for the gang, they boarded the same bus last week Tuesday and the bus conductor who was vigilant noticed them and raised alarm. They were about seven but three of them were arrested while four others escaped. But during interrogation those arrested provided information that aided the arrest of two others. We are currently making effort to apprehend the gang leader who is currently at large,” he explained.

How We Killed 10 Armed Policemen In Lagos – Robbers Confess

Ejike Mbogu, a member of a deadly gang of six that has been terrorizing Lagos and Ogun States, has told the police how they wasted 10 policemen who dared to stand in their way.

Ejike who is the number two man in the gang, spoke on behalf of other members from the SARS detectives’ cell.

“We killed 10 policemen and had their guns (AK47 rifles) carted away, five of the slain policemen were from Ogun state command, while the other five were from Lagos state command.

In Lagos alone, we killed two policemen in Oko-Oba, one in Iponri and two others in Ejigbo area. Also, in Ogun state police command, two policemen were shot dead in Abeokuta and another three in Ibafo area”, Ejike, the 33-year-old suspect said.

He pointed out that the 10 rifles were used for their various robbery operations on banks and Bureau De Change outlets in Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Kwara, Ondo, Kogi and Edo states respectively. Out of the 10 guns, Ejike confessed, he took one (now recovered), while nine others were shared out among others.

Among the gang members, Ejike disclosed that the duo of Ope and Isong are currently being held in protective custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

According to the Awka, Anambra state-born suspect, the two suspects were arrested shortly after a robbery operation in Abeokuta, following a painstaking intelligence gathering.

“On every big operation, especially bank raids, we usually merged with other gangs. We usually went in a large number, at times, we will be almost 20 on every operation. We have four gangs led by Kingsley, Wale, Goke and Emmanuel.

“Take for instance, the raids on First Bank Plc in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital and Share branch, Kwara state, were well coordinated, as we were about 18 members who participated in the raids. We were all fully armed to the teeth, as we made use of dynamites and GPMG”, confessed Ejike.

Lagos police arrest suspected serial murderer, robber

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ibrahim Balogun, a 25-year-old man accused of perpetrating a series of murders in Somolu, Bariga and Fadeyi in the state.

PUNCH Metro had reported on June 25, 2012, that Balogun also known as Small Jpron, was declared wanted following a gang-related violence between Shaggy Boys and Downtown Boys which left at least five people dead in Ilaje, Bariga.

Balogun, who also goes by the pseudonym, Asarailu, which means death in Arabic, is said to be the deputy gang leader of Downtown Boys and a member of a sect, Eiye Confraternity also known as EFCC Boys.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Balogun was arrested on Bawahala Street near Pedro Police Station on Saturday.

A reliable police source narrated the circumstances that led to Balogun’s arrest to our correspondent.

He said, “On Friday, around 11:30am, Yusuf Adebowale, a resident of Somolu, took a commercial motorcycle to FirstBank branch in Fadeyi to withdraw N100, 000. As he was withdrawing the money from ATM, the okada rider, later identified as Dare, informed Balogun and his gang.

“As Adebowale left the bank, just a few metres away, Balogun and three other gang members attacked  him and stole the money, phone and a wristwatch.

“Adebowale reported the matter at Onipanu Police Station and also told youths in the area about his ordeal. Less than an hour later, Dare, the okada rider, was apprehended by residents and taken to the  police station where he confessed.

“Later that night, he led us to Balogun’s hideout but Balogun was not around. One of the policemen, identified as Abu, however released Dare without authorisation.”

Our correspondent learnt that the following day, around 11:30am, Balogun and four others allegedly went to rob residents of Bawahala Street and a woman alerted the police.

The police source said, “In broad daylight, Balogun and four gang members, heavily armed, went to rob. We received a distress call and policemen headed by Inspector Smart, rushed down to the scene.

“The four others escaped but Balogun was arrested and taken to Pedro Police Station where he identified himself as Ibrahim Oriyomi Folarin.”

Our correspondent learnt that the policemen could not identify Balogun even though the police had declared him wanted. However, scores of residents stormed the police station and quickly identified him.

It was learnt that there was pandemonium at the station as residents who had fallen victims to Balogun and his gang asked the police to hand him over.

Youths in the area were said to have brought a tyre and petrol which they threatened to set the suspect ablaze.

But the Special Anti-Robbery Squad took Balogun away and this restored normalcy to the station.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

She said Balogun had been on police wanted list for a long time.

“I just spoke to the officer in charge of SARS and he confirmed the incident to me. He said the suspect (Balogun) is accused of murders, attempted murders and robberies,” she said.

Police rescue robbers from mob

The Imo state Police command yesterday rescued two robbers and two corpses of suspected robbers killed by an angry mob at Spibat road Amakohia/Akwaskuma in Owerri North LGA.

Police detachment from Special Anti-robbery squad of the state command intercepted the robbers following a distress call that two armed suspects were about to be lynched by an angry mob.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the command headquarters Owerri yesterday, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Vitalis Onug said that the squad on arrival met the two armed robbers with loaded double barrel shot gun and other dangerous weapons.

He said that they were already tied down with two motorcycle tires hanged on them ready to be set ablaze.The squad immediately rescued the suspected robbers at the point of death as a result of machetes cuts dealt on them by the angry mobs saying two of the robbers died on the way to hospital.

The suspects according to the PPRO were alleged to have stolen laptops, handsets etc.

He said that one of the suspects, simply identified as Buchi from Akpodim in Mbaise LGA, Imo state managed to describe the robbers’ hideout before he died.
