Boko Haram's Agenda Revealed

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said the forcible conversion to Islam of the Christians among the girls who were abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno shows Boko Haram's agenda which is waging war against Christianity and Christian.

Condemning the conversion, Reverend Musa Asake, the national secretary of CAN said it was unacceptable and urged the federal government and the international community to act fast.

Yesterday the dreaded Boko Haram sect who abducted over 200 girls on April 14 during a night raid in Chibok, Borno posted a video clip online which showed the missing girls in an undisclosed area reciting a chapter from the Koran and they have all been converted to Islam.

CAN gives El-Rufai 7 days to reveal source of Oritsejafor’s private jet

Freedom to say whatever one feels comes with it the responsibility to be liable or held accountable for such statements. We have learnt lessons from the ongoing war between Femi Fani Kayode and Bianca Ojukwu on what to say and not what to say. 

There is another war currently going on because some people think freedom of speech means to say anything. Former minister for the Federal Capital Terrotory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, has been given a 7-day ultimatum by the Christian Association of Nigeria to reveal to Nigerians who gave the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, his private jet or risk having his dirty character exposed to the public. The Christian Association also asked El-Rufai to go for a Psychiatric test.

 

This is in response to the interview the former minister granted Saturday Sun dated 14th September where he called the CAN president a bigot and a pretender. El-Rufai said:

"The CAN president is not a religious leader. He is a religious pretender. From the statements he has made, he is a bigot. He is an ethnic irredentist and no one should take him serious. It is sad that such a person is the head of CAN. He can say whatever he wants to say but we know who he is working for, we know who gave him his private jet. so why should we worry about someone like that. He has zero credibility".

In a statement signed by Rev Emmanuel Dziggau and Elder Sunday Oibe, CAN said 

"The fact that he can abuse Jesus Christ in his tweets and Christians ignored him does not give him the impetus to make unguarded comments about Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who is the leader of the Christians in Nigeria"

 

They also noted that Christians respect other faiths and have never abused the Sultan of Sokoto or the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar 111 who is the leader of the Muslims in Nigeria.

CAN Passes Confidence Vote On Oritsejafor

Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, yesterday, passed vote of confidence on Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor led administration, saying it is well satisfied with the way he handled its affairs.
The christian national Body had in the recent time been rocked with internal crisis, climaxed with the withdrawal of membership by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, on the allegation that CAN was being too close to the government.
Arising from its emergency meeting in Abuja, the President-in-Council said it had set in motion the process of resolving its issue
In a statement, CAN Vice President, Most Rev. Daniel Okoh said: “Some of the recent issues in CAN were discussed and it was resolved as follows: that CAN is a family. As a family, it has its own internal mechanism for resolving its issues. CAN has therefore set in motion the process for resolving these issues.”
“The President-in-Council re-affirms its implicit and explicit confidence in the CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor in all his public statements on behalf of CAN.
“We appeal to the well known sense of social responsibility of the press in handling the current situation”.

Sanusi Has No Right To Call For Scrapping Of CAN – Oyedepo

About two weeks ago, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Lamido Sanusi, was reported to have called for the ban of ethno-religious groups in the country as a way of curbing insecurity. And just when we thought the dust had settled on the matter, the senior pastor of Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel,  Gideon Oyedepo, has declared that he had no right to make such a call.

Sanusi, while speaking at an inter-faith dinner organized by the Northern Reawakening Forum (NRF) in Abuja, was quoted to have said among others: “…I am opposed to regional, ethnic and religious groupings in this country. Infact, I would like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), Afenifere and all such other groups to be banned.”

Oyedepo, who is the head pastor of Winners Chapel Life Camp branch in Abuja, during the thanksgiving service to commemorate the second year anniversary of the branch, faulted Sanusi’s statement yesterday.

He said: “Sanusi is not God. He can’t call for the scrapping of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

“Nobody can scrap CAN. The government is an institution established by God, therefore, they can’t scatter God’s agenda for Nigeria. CAN is a forum where Christians meet to deliberate on how the work of God must move forward. So, I can’t see an ordinary man asking for the scrapping of the body of Christ. CAN will get back on its feet.

“There’s no way humans don’t have disagreement,” he added.

Christians Are Now Ready To Fight Boko Haram

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South-East chapter, has announced that it is now ready to defend its members and retaliate the attacks if the bombing of churches and kill*ng of Christians by the Boko Haram sect continues.

 CAN Chairman in the zone and Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, while addressing newsmen in Enugu, condemned the latest attacks. “Though Christians have continued to appeal for peace, it seems that the security agencies cannot contain this carnage,” he said.

 He disclosed that the leadership of CAN are now convinced that Boko Haram is out to deal with Christians in the North, adding that Christians would no longer remain silent. Chukwuma stated categorically that the ceaseless bombings of churches and killing of innocent Christians would no longer be tolerated.

 “It was very unfortunate and embarrassing to hear about the bombing of a church in Plateau, and sadly, it has become a recurrence. We totally condemn the act, and we urge the Federal Government and Muslim leaders to do something about it,” he said.
