Navy Official Who 'Killed' His Girl Friend's Baby Walks Free

Mr. Joseph Moses, a Nigerian Navy personnel who was said to have colluded with some hoodlums to kidnap his three-month-old baby and later threw him into the lagoon in Apapa, Lagos, has yet to be arrested.

Funny enough, the Lagos State Police PRO, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, said there was nothing unusual about the strange development because the suspect was a military man.
“Something you must understand is that, there are procedures that need to be followed when a military personnel is accused of a criminal act.

“Even if he had been initially arrested, the police would still have to refer him to military authorities, who would exert their own disciplinary action before handing him over to the police,” he said.

It was gathered that two suspects in custody of the State CID - Peter Elias and Amadu Bello - had already made statements, accusing the naval rating for being behind the kidnap of the baby.

They also said the policemen at Ajeromi Police Station, Ajegunle, where the case was first reported, had released four other suspects in the case after they paid 20,000 each to the IPOs.

The duo, who said they did not know about the plan, noted that the suspects that were freed were actually the ones that aided Moses to carry out the plan.

The three-month-old baby, a love child between the naval official and a lady identified as Happiness was said to have been kidnapped on February 10, after Moses denied that he was the baby’s father.

The two suspects at the State CID confessed that Mr. Moses put the baby in a carton and threw her into the lagoon in their presence.

Also a motorcyclist, one Bello, in his confessional statement, said when they got to the Bridge, Moses got down and threw a carton in the lagoon. Bello said it was after they arrested him that he learnt the carton Moses threw in the lagoon contained his baby.

My Naval Boyfriend Threw My Baby Into The Lagoon

This is the sad and unfortunate story of 27-year-old lady, Glory Yusuf, who became a punching bag because she refused to abort the pregnancy she had for a Naval guy identified as Moses Joseph.

Below is Glory's story as told by her: “I have known Joseph since last year, he was a next door neighbour to my elder sister and we started dating. Later in the year he came to me that he wanted to marry me and we went to see my family members in Lagos. Later I became pregnant and I told him but he said I must abort my four months old pregnancy but I refused.

“I started seeing another version of Joseph after I refused to terminate the pregnancy. Last year, I saw a woman with two children in Joseph’s house and when I asked him, he said they were his late brother’s children and wife.

"It was later I discovered that the woman is his wife and the children are his... He told me that he will not be responsible for my pregnancy.

“I went through a lot to take care of myself during the pregnancy and my family members were supporting me. After I gave birth to the baby on January 13, 2012, Joseph trailed me to the house and forced me to hand over the baby to him. I refused and he started beating me up. It was neighbours who saved me from his hands. As if that was not enough, he came back the next day and demanded for the baby but I refused.

“He slapped me in the face and I fainted. He tried to take the baby away but my neighbours stopped him and hid the baby. I called my mother to come from the village after I regained consciousness.

“After her arrival, some hoodlums numbering eight, stormed my home, beat me and my mother up. Two of them held guns while the others had broken bottles and sharp objects which they used on me and my mother. I hid my baby but they searched for her and grabbed her from me and ran away.

I ran after them shouting. That was when I saw Joseph on a bike parked ahead at the street. I called out to him to bring my baby, I saw their faces very well because there was light, but Joseph refused. I called his phones but he did not answer.”

Hmm.. what an unfortunate incident! Anyway, Police detectives attached to the homicide department of the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, have commenced investigation into the matter.

Lets hope justice will be done in this matter at the end of the day.

A Navy Captain (names withheld) has been arrested over the escape of a vessel M.T.Beaver, arrested earlier this month for carrying stolen crude oil.

The captain, newsmen gathered, also doubles as a maritime guard cammander of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA.

He has been in detention since December 3.

It was gathered that the captain was directed to arrest the vessel, a directive he complied with and handed over the crew and vessel to NIMASA officials.

NIMASA’s management, however, refuted the claim, saying the maritime agency did not have the power to detain any arrested vessel.

It was learnt that after the arrest and detention of the vessel, it mysteriously disappeared from where it was berted.

A fake Naval Commodore, the equivalent of Brigadier-General in the Army, found with large cache of arms and ammunition, Godwin David has been arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Igando area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

Godwin, a native of Umuahia in Abia State, was nabbed in his hideout after his gang of robbers and kidnappers who were previously arrested by SARS exposed his clandestine activities.

At his hideout, SARS discovered 4 rocket launchers, 9 AK47 rifles, 2 locally made handcuffs, 30 magazines, live ammunition, 4 fake naval caps and uniform, charms and 4 unused catridges.

In his confessional statement, Godwin David disclosed that he and his gang members usually get their guns from the East where they are later moved to Lagos to be used for their robbery and kidnapping operations.

He said moving the guns and ammunition to Lagos was usually easy as he usually dress as a Naval Commodore to deceive policemen on the road.

He also confessed to using the guns and ammunition for robbing several people in Lagos and its environs.

Godwin disclosed that his gang only goes for big “operations” in which they could make from N2 million and above. “We go for major operation ranging from N2 million and above and my share is usually bigger than every other gang member’s share because I am the leader.

“When we go out for the operation, we dress in naval uniforms so that no policeman or soldier on the road will suspect us. Once we get to our hit area, we pull off the uniforms and begin our operation,” he said.

Godwin also confessed that his gang has successfully kidnapped four people who paid several million for their release.

“We have kidnapped four set of people in Lagos. We collected N2 million and N4 million from two of the victims. The name of one of the victims we kidnapped is Rodney Ogagba.”

Godwin said the hideout in Igando where he was caught, was used to keep the kidnapped victims.

Narrating how he was eventually arrested, he said: “I was in the camp when I saw my boy with a man who came on an okada. I heard a gun shot and immediately, I opened fire. Before I knew it, I was trapped down and arrested by SARS operatives led by OC SARS, SP Abba Kyari.”

Sources at SARS told NEWSMEN that the landlord of the premises where Godwin was arrested is presently on the run and he has been declared wanted by SARS.
