Woman Kills Baby Fathered By Her 15 Years Old Student

A 24-year-old Chiredzi Zimbabwe woman has been jailed for 12 months for killing a newly-born baby she had with her 15-year-old schoolboy lover. Vimbai Mahembe of Village 3 in Chipimbi communal lands strangled the baby to death and buried it in a shallow grave because she was embarrassed to face her relatives after being impregnated by her Form 3 lover from the same village.

Mahembe pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying she killed the newly born baby because the father could not look after it since he was still at school. Chiredzi magistrate Mr Thomas Ndokera had initially sentenced Mahembe to three years, but conditionally suspended two years after convicting her for infanticide on her own plea of guilty.

Prosecutor Mr Liberty Hove said on 17 April this year at around 7 pm Mahembe gave birth to a baby boy in her bedroom hut. After giving birth, she strangled the newly born to death and wrapped the body with a cloth before putting it in a bucket and sneaked out to the family garden, a few metres away.

At the garden, Mahembe dug a shallow pit and buried the infant inside before returning to her bedroom hut. Mahembe's sister-in-law became suspicious after she saw blood all over the floor inside the hut.

She repeatedly quizzed Mahembe who admitted to have given birth to a baby boy and killing him since the father could not look after him as he was still attending secondary school. A report was made to police at Chipimbi base leading to Mahembe's arrest.

Man who burnt wife with hot iron opens up, as emotions pour in for burnt wife ( A MUST-READ )

*My wife slept with my father thrice – Son…*It’s an abomination, I never did that- father

Henry Nnadi, the 38- year-old dry cleaner that killed his 1-year-old son, Ebuka, and burnt his wife, Mercy,36, with hot iron for allegedly sleeping with his 65-year-old father, has finally spoken on the circumstances that led to his beastly act from the confines of his prison cell at Kirikiri, Lagos.

Looking remorseless over the pains he inflicted on his wife of two years, the fair-skinned Henry only showed regrets when the issue of his dead son came up. “That was the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When he woke up crying for milk, I looked at him in anger and a voice came saying kill him, he is not your son. In obedience to that voice, I hit him hard on the neck several times.”

Insisting that he was unsure of the paternity of the boy, Henry gave vivid details of what transpired on the fateful Saturday, April 7, 2012. Excerpts:

“I am sure of what I am talking about. My wife, Mercy has been sleeping with my father. Before the incident, I have cautioned her to stop going to my father’s house because I suspected their moves . But she wouldn’t listen. Then one day, when she was about going out, I told her not to leave the house but she disobeyed me and went out. I waited for a while before going straight to my father’s place which is not far from where I live .

And to confirm my claim, immediately I arrived there, I knocked and my father opened the door with a towel round his waist. As I made to go in, he prevented me by blocking the entrance with his hand. I do not know how my wife managed to escape . But after waiting for a while, I left and immediately I got home, my wife had reached the house, I laughed and went to smoke to cool my temper. I was keeping all that in mind until that Saturday night.

“As I was ironing my customer’s clothes, I looked at my wife where she was sleeping on the bed and anger surged inside of me. I then heard a voice instructing me to go and ask her why she was sleeping with my father. By then, the iron was very hot and I thought I could use that to scare her.”

Burning her with the hot iron

I woke her up and asked her to tell me the truth on how many times she had slept with my father. But she refused to talk. Then the voice came to me again to place the hot iron on her and I did. As I was placing it, she told me she had slept with my father three times.

Immediately she mentioned it, I lost my cool and placed it harder on her out of anger. At that point, the child cried, wanting to suck br*ast. I looked at him wondering if I was actually his father. I thought to myself that it could be possible my father was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in his birth.

How I killed my son

At this point the suspect kept quiet, bowed his head, shaking it intermittently in self pity. And when he raised his head, his eyes were filled with tears. Thereafter, he rested his chin on his palm and looked at the sky, muttering. After a long pause, this reporter asked him if he actually killed his son.

In reply, he said, “ that is the worst thing I have ever done in my entire life. When Ebuka woke up from sleep that night, crying for br*ast milk as he always did, I looked at him in anger and the voice came again saying , ‘kill him, he is not your son!’. In obedience to the voice, I hit him hard in the neck several times.”

Asked to described exactly how he did it, he raised his right hand like a boxer, hitting it severally on his left arm, causing this reporter to move backward, for fear of the unknown.

Continuing, he said, “You know he is a baby and very fragile. When my fist landed on him the first time, he screamed. At that point, the mother lifted her hand to prevent my next fist from landing on the boy , but I planted the hot iron on her hand”. Henry, reportedly landed another fist on the little helpless creature . At the third hit, Ebuka, as gathered, could no longer cry. He was still .

When Henry was asked why he was always beating his wife as claimed by neighbours, he admitted that they have had series of quarrel, most of which was caused by his wife’s alleged clandestine relationship with his father. He posited however that “there is no way a man and a woman would live under same roof without quarreling. It is impossible. Yes, we quarreled and settled” .

Asked if he had any regrets for his action, he replied, “sure , I do, mainly because of the death of my son. Why should a child be killed over an offense he knew nothing about? His death will continue to haunt me all the days of my life. I may not live to even atone for this sin but if by sheer providence I do, I will never forgive myself for taking the life of my innocent boy.

All this is the handiwork of the devil. If I had known, I would have not touched my son that night. I know I am going to die because I have killed my son. If it had been my wife, I would not have bothered much . But my son, ah! I have done the unimaginable” he stated in an emotion- laden tone.

When contacted for his reaction to his son’s claim, 65-year- old Theodore Nnadi described the allegation as baseless and unimaginable, wondering how a father could stoop so low as to sleep with his daughter in-law. The light skinned man swore with both visible and invisible substances, denying ever having any feeling of such towards a woman he considered as a daughter. The father of eight who said his name had been dragged in the mud following the allegation and wondered how on earth a son could mete such injustice on his father.

Recalling with pains how he tried all he could to give his son, Henry, a good future, Pa Nnadi revealed that signs of his present predicament reared its ugly head after Henry’s secondary school.

Hear him, “ After his secondary school , he began to move with irresponsible people and street urchins . In order to keep him busy, I took him to a school of engineering where he specialized in factory generator repairs. But before I knew it, that turned out to be my greatest undoing as he went into snatching of motorcycles from riders.

“He would mount a motorcycle, give the rider his destination. But midway, he would pour pepper into the rider’s eyes, causing him to loose balance and in the process make away with the motorbike and sell same at give -away price. He was arrested in one of the occasions and was imprisoned for eight years.

After he finished serving his jail term, I took him to a church where deliverance was carried out on him. Before everybody in the church, he promised never to go back to his past again. After that, he started the dry cleaning job.”

SHOCKER: Man Assaults Wife With Hot Pressing Iron ( A MUST-READ )

The suspect, Henry Nnadi

I warned his wife

After the introduction ceremony and the wife moved in with him, I started getting series of report on how he was maltreating her. Several times, the matter was reported at Ago police station where he was made to write undertaken never to raise his hand on her again. But he never complied. When the beating became unbearable, I personally told his wife never to return to my son when she traveled to her village last year. She stayed for a while, only to come back because my son, as I later learnt, went to beg her.”

Asked if he actually slept with his daughter-in-law, Mr Theodore screamed in anger, â€Ĺ“ how can that be? That is an abomination! Before God and man, I never did that. Ah! This child wants to take me to an unprepared grave. I reject that. It is not my portion .I can never try such disgusting thing in my life. Oh my God, at this age?His intention is to soil my name. Go and ask about me where I live, or even from the village I come from. This is unimaginable. Come to think of it, I have a wife.”

Also asked to clarify his son's claim that he met his wife in his house where the father blocked the entrance, Pa Nnadi replied, almost in tears, â€Ĺ“Only God will judge this matter. This child is a bad child. The wife used to sell pap and she usually brings it to my house where she sold to my wife .

Whenever she is leaving my house, my wife would give her some ingredients because my son was not taking care of her and their baby. For instance, when she gave birth to my grandson , Ebuka, it was one of my daughters that brought out N120,000 for the delivery bill because she gave birth through caesarian. But do you know what happened, my son, Henry, stole out of that money from where it was kept and when asked, he argued that the money was too much, that it ought to have been given to him to buy a motorcycle.

He is a pain in the neck. In fact, he had beaten me before in public, simply because I reprimanded him for fighting with his cousin. Since that incident, my people vowed never to visit his house again. I swear to God, I never did that abominable act. I have passed such stage. Besides, I am a God fearing man. Come to think of it, (grins) I live in that apartment with my wife and my other children. How on earth would that happen”?

Emotions, promises, pour in for burnt housewife

Meanwhile, following Mercy's story published in Vanguard, some concerned Nigerians and groups have continued to call in, signifying their interest to assist Mercy with the medical bill and a possible transfer to another hospital. Among those that called were Zahara Women Foundation, CENTA For Organizational Development, Bimbo Odukoya Foundation and other individuals from different parts of the country and beyond. But none of them, as at Thursday morning, had made any monetary donations.

For Bimbo Odukoya's Foundation, it promised to visit mercy at the hospital on Thursday evening with a view to carrying out on the spot assessment and proffer possible medical solution.

Zahara Women Foundation on its part, promised to visit the victim yesterday, (Friday),where its co-ordinator who called in from Canada said the foundation would do all within its reach to give Mercy legal backing as well as playing a role on her medical expenses.

Dr Eze of New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota area of Lagos hinted that although Mercy was responding to treatment, there are fears that some sensitive parts of the affected area were still to get healed. â€Ĺ“For instance, her br*ast and chest region and her thigh close to the vagina are part of the critical areas.”

Vanguard Crime Guard observation revealed that fluid was still pouring out from under the br*ast , which seemed to be defiling treatment. The cause, as gathered, was because it was not exposed to air. As a result, the region is always damp with the burns causing sores. She is still going through excruciating pains, with serious anesthetics being administered to her on daily basis.

But the doctor assured that things would take its normal shape with time, disclosing that part of the burns on her back, stomach and hand were getting healed. The doctor also disclosed that as at Thursday evening, only N60,000.00 has been donated by a lady who pleaded anonymity.

But for Mercy to get back quickly on her feet again, she needs funds, first to clear the backlog of close to N600,000 which the hospital claimed was her medical bill. Out of this amount, the hospital said Mercy's father in-law was only able to pay the sum of N50,000. Presently , Pa Theodore who owns a mini boutique along Ago-Palace Way is finding it difficult to foot the bill.

Crime Guard reliably gathered that the 65-year-old man had resorted to borrowing from people in order to ensure Mercy gets back on her feet again. Plans, as gathered, is on the pipeline to open an account for Mercy where well- meaning Nigerians are enjoined to pay in their widow's mite, as this will, no doubt, go a long way in ensuring Mercy's speedy recovery.

And if this is not done on time, there are fears that the burns, particularly in the sensitive areas, could be affected, which unfortunately, can be disastrous for the helpless woman.

Meanwhile, her husband has been charged to the Ebute-Meta magistrate court, where he appeared last Tuesday. But the case could not be heard as his file with charge no G/23/2012 was referred to the Directorate of Public Defender (DPP) for advice.

However, while waiting for the account to be opened, concerned individuals can make their donations in person to the hospital- New Revolution hospital located in Ago, Okota, Lagos or reach Vanguard Crime Editor through: emmadozie@hotmail.com or 08023145281.

Prosecutors say Elliot Turner, 20, 'went absolutely nuts' and strangled 17-year-old Emily Longley following a month of anger and upset over his suspicions she was 'twisting his heart'. His mother, Anita, 51, and father, Leigh, 57, of Bournemouth, initially told police they had heard Emily talking in their son’s bedroom, even though the prosecution say she was already dead.

Turner said they had argued the night before and she had attacked him, and that when he woke up beside her she was dead.

When arrested he had his passport in his pocket and his bags packed, Winchester Crown Court was told. Leigh and Anita Turner allegedly removed their son’s jacket from the bedroom when the police were distracted by Leigh Turner dropping his tablets on the floor, with Anita Turner taking it.

Accused: Leigh Turner, 53, and his wife Anita are charged with obstructing the course of justice Police bugged their house in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the weeks after the alleged murder and heard the pair say they had destroyed a letter that Turner had written. Earlier he had said: 'We have perverted the course of justice by destroying evidence.' But Anita Turner was heard to say they had been right to do it. Elliot Turner was heard to say: 'I just flipped. I went absolutely nuts... I just lost it. I grabbed her as hard as I could. I pushed her like that.' The three gang members were found guilty in an Old Bailey Court last month of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the girl and Selvakumar, plus the attempted murder of rival gang member Roshaun Bryan.

Street fight turns bloody , As 21-yr-old stabs apprentice to death

SEGUN Olabode-Otti is a 21-year-old boy residing at Oke Ado area of Ibadan, Oyo State. With his father dead and his mother in a second marriage, Segun had grown into adulthood learning to fend for himself. He was reported to have always joined other boys of shady character in smoking Indian hemp within the premises of a primary school on his street, the resultant effect of which was unnecessary display of aggressiveness.

However, his display of this aggressiveness has landed him police net as he is currently cooling his heels in the cell at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan for allegedly stabbing one Sayo Adeyemi on the left side of his chest with a screw driver on Wednesday April 4 at about 6.45p.m. According to information gathered, Sayo had gone to ease himself within the premises of the primary school and was on his way out when he was accosted by Segun who demanded an explanation for his presence in a place he and his group regarded as their own exclusive spot. However, Segun reportedly felt that Sayo’s reply was rude, so he challenged him to a fight by tapping him on the chest.

The duo were said to have rolled on the ground as they fought. Suddenly, Sayo screamed and slumped. By the time onlookers moved to where he was, he was bleeding from a hole created in his chest. Some sympathisers quickly rushed him to a private hospital close to the scene of incident but he was referred to St Mary’s General Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan, based on the seriousness of the injury he sustained. However, he was said to have given up the ghost before he got to the hospital. Meanwhile, those left at the scene where the fight took place were reported to have descended on Segun, beating him.

He was later taken to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SĂ€RS) unit, Dugbe, from where those who brought him were referred to the State CID since the case involved was alleged murder. Police sources told Sunday Tribune that the suspect however denied stabbing the deceased with any object, saying that he must have fallen on a sharp object when he fell down. According to the source, “Segun claimed that he and one Tunde a.k.a. White were strolling past Methodist Primary School, Oke Ado, when they saw Sayo coming out of the school.

Tunde was said to have demanded an explanation from the deceased on what he went to do in the school but he allegedly replied Tunde harshly because he felt it was no business of his. “Segun also directed same question at him but he reportedly warned him not to challenge him again. This did not go down well with Segun and a fight ensued. It was in the process that Segun claimed the deceased fell and the next thing he saw was blood flowing from his side. Segun also said that the deceased’s fellow apprentices were watching them as they fought, with the thought that Sayo would have an upper hand, so they did not separate the fighting duo.

Man Kills Girlfriend Over Her New Hair Style

This is what frustration and joblessness does. Forget love o, just forget it. This lady was killed by her boyfriend when she went visiting him just because she couldn’t give a better explanation of how she got the money to make the new hairstyle she was wearing. She had probably got the money elsewhere, made the hair, looked beautiful and wanted to show her bf (the murderer) how pretty she looks.

I’m sure she was in love, but what did she get? She was sent into an early grave. If a ‘maga’ dashes you a car, please don’t take it to your bobo’s house. The only thing he will be planning is how they will steal that car, or pray an accident occurs with it, just for you to lose it. It’s simple; he believes it’s an oppression, no self-confidence what so ever. So just cruise your ride. And in case you are richer, rock your money well and pretend you are as broke as he is, then love continues without headaches, smh.

Police in Rivers State said they have one Jim Zaccheus in their custody, for allegedly killing and secretly burying his girlfriend in his room on Saturday, last week, in the Elechi Beach end of Diobu, Port Harcourt. The state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Indabawa, who revealed this during his maiden press briefing in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, also said the command had arrested four out of seven suspects who gang-raped a 14-year-old girl in the Rumuodonmaya area of the city.

Indabawa, who said the command would charge Zaccheus to court for the criminal act, added that the suspect had been accused of killing his girlfriend, who was identified as Peace Mathias and carefully buried her corpse in his room, to conceal the act. News men learnt that the suspect had been suspicious of his victim over a new hair style she made and demanded to know how she got the money, a situation that led to a quarrel between them.

Not satisfied with her explanation, Zaccheus was said to have beaten her to a pulp, while she died in the process, although it was not clear if he used any object on her. However, neighbours had suspected the movements of the suspect, coupled with stench that was oozing out of the room and had alerted security operatives who forced the door open and exhumed the victim’s decomposing body. “The suspect was arrested Tuesday and has confessed to the crime. We are yet to contact the parents of the deceased, but investigation on the incident is still on”, the police commissioner said.

Woman and Her Boyfriend Beats Her Husband To Death

Tragedy struck in Ikpamodo Village, Enugu-Ezike in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State last weekend when a housewife, (names withheld), her three children and the woman’s boyfriend, allegedly beat the husband to death. The deceased was a popular bicycle repairer in the town. He was a Catholic. His offence: The late bicycle repairer was accused by his widow of disturbing her with his early morning prayers. The widow is a native doctor. A family source told Daily Sun that the woman, had allegedly been tormenting her husband and even built her own house, demarcating her husband’s compound with a big fence.

On the day, the man was murdered, she was said to have told her husband that she was not comfortable with the manner in which he had been disturbing her charms by saying long prayers every morning. But the husband, a devout Roman Catholic, told her that he had never supported her practice as a native doctor. A serious argument ensued between them which led to physical attack. Another man, said to be her boyfriend, who is also a native doctor, was alleged to have joined her in attacking the deceased.

The man’s children rushed to the scene and instead of separating their parents, allegedly assisted in beating their father with sticks and logs of wood. The man slumped and died. Sensing that her husband had died, the widow, her children as well as her “external husband” took to their heels, abandoning the man’s body.. Neighbours and villagers arrived the scene. They took the body to the Ogrute General Hospital, but the doctor confirmed him dead.

His body was later deposited at the hospital’s mortuary. The matter was reported at Ogrute police station. The suspects were promptly detained before being transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Enugu. There was tension in the community. The youths organized themselves and set the six-room apartment of the widow ablaze. One of the irate youths who spoke to our reporter, but did not want to be named, said: “This is an abomination in our community. Nobody has ever committed such sacrilege.

That is the reason we decided to take the law into our own hands and burn her building to serve as a deterrent to any other person who may try such evil act again” When our reporter visited Ikpamodo community yesterday, the man had been buried even as normalcy is gradually returning there. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogrute Division, Buulus Maaji, was not available for comments when our reporter visited the station. 14yr old boy hammered mum to death and sets home on fire

daniel bartlam

Fourteen year old Daniel Bartlam, a former prep school pupil, crept into his mother's bedroom while she slept and bludgeoned her to death with a sledge hammer, and then set the house on fire to cause distraction from him being suspected as the killer.

The horror film obsessed teenager was jailed for life on Monday after evidence proved he battered his mother to death with a hammer, claiming he was instructed by a voice.. Daniel crept into his mother’s bedroom with this hammers and killed her Daniel Bartlam was just 14 when he hit mother Jacqueline, 47, seven times with a claw hammer at their detached cul-de-sac home in Redhill, Nottingham.

He then padded her body with paper, doused it in petrol and set fire to it in a bid to destroy evidence and commit the ‘perfect murder’.

Mrs Bartlam body was so burnt she was only identified by autopsy doctors using dental records. A court heard the teenager rescued his younger brother and the family pet before fleeing from the burning house, telling police that Mrs Bartlam, a Land Registry worker, had been killed by an intruder. He was was charged with the murder after police discovered video footage on his computer of Coronation Street’s killer character, John Stape.

Nottingham Crown Court heard Bartlam was ‘obsessed’ with a Cornation street character – who battered a woman with a hammer before leaving her body in the wreckage of a tram crash to cover up his crime – and stored files relating to the plot on his computer. When police examined the rest of the hard drive they discovered he had searched for web pages about ‘people who get away with murder in shows’.

He posted violent scenes from television soap EastEnders on YouTube and had a fixation with crime drama Trial and Retribution He also penned a soap opera-style plot in which he fantasised about a character called Daniel Bartlam killing ‘Jackie’, his mother.

A source close to the case told the Daily Mail: ‘He comes across as being very mature but there is a distinct lack of emotion. If he was an adult he could be considered a psychopath.’ The product of a broken home, Bartlam had been obsessed with horror films since the age of eight and watched the gruesome Saw 3D movie hours before the murder.

He was convicted of his mother’s murder in February following a two-week trial, but it was only after his sentencing on Monday that Mr Justice Flaux lifted reporting restrictions which prevented him from being named. Sentencing Bartlam to life with a minimum of 16 years for the ‘senseless and grotesque killing’, the judge said the murder involved a high degree of planning, and Bartlam remained ‘extremely dangerous’.

During his trial, the jury were told he was a ‘young man who immersed himself in a fantasy world; fantasy words he wrote, television drama, films he accessed by the internet and other internet sites’. Prosecutor Sean Smith added: ‘The boundaries between real life and fiction became very, very tragically blurred.’ Bartlam, who is now 15, initially told police he had a good relationship with his mother.

On the night of the murder he claimed to have been confronted by a masked intruder at the property in Redhill, Nottingham, when he got up to use the toilet. He said the man threw a hammer at him before fleeing and that he then found his mother’s body on the floor of her burning bedroom. He said he panicked and fled with his brother and their dog. Bartlam was charged two days after the killing. In an outburst at the secure unit he was remanded to soon after, he threatened to ‘kill’ a fellow patient, ‘like I killed my mum’.

He denied murder, offering to admit manslaughter on the basis that he snapped after being branded a ‘f****** freak’ by his mother. Prosecutors refused to accept the plea and Bartlam will begin his sentence in a young offenders’ institution. Bartlam’s father Adrian, a successful businessman, separated from his mother in 2005, shortly after the birth of their other child, a boy who is now six. Until then, Bartlam had attended Greenholme, a Nottingham preparatory school which closed last year, and Dagfa, a private boys’ school.

But financial pressures meant that following his parents’ separation, Bartlam was sent to a Roman Catholic state school, where he failed to settle. In 2010, he was referred to a school counsellor after telling pupils his tie, which he named ‘Fred’, was trying to hurt him. But just six weeks before the killing, mental health assessors concluded that Bartlam posed little or no risk to himself or others.

A Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust spokesman said: ‘Due to patient confidentiality we are unable to provide any further comment.’ Mrs Bartlam’s parents, who asked not to be named, said in a statement: ‘There are no winners here because not only have we lost Jacqui, but we have lost Daniel too.’ Coronation Street has been nicknamed ‘the most violent place in Britain’, with ten characters killed off in the past two years.

A tram disaster in December 2010 took the lives of four characters, while rapist Frank Foster was murdered last month. An ITV spokesman said the channel took ‘careful steps to ensure that pre-watershed drama was appropriate for a family audience’.

Another mystery murder in Igede sparks controversy in Ekiti , As man 69, found killed in farm

TONGUES are now wagging in Igede-Ekiti, head quarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State following the discovery of the body of a man in his farm in the community last week Thursday. The body of 69-year-old, Mr. Abiodun Adeleye, popularly known as Olododo was found in his farm by a search party that sources said included the youth of the community and men of the Ekiti State police command, the day after he left his home for the farm.

A family source told Sunday Tribune that Olododo of Irona area of the town had gone to his farm on Wednesday and never returned until his body was found the day after. The source, who does not want to be named, said the man never stayed late in the farm and his lateness on the day he was murdered sparked suspicion as, according to the source, there had been a threat to his life by another member of the community.

It alleged that the deceased had once been beaten to a pulp before by a youth (names withheld) in the community, who, it said, claimed that Olododo was occupying his farmland, adding that it took the intervention of well-meaning individuals, who retrieved the cutlass from the youth, to save the day. It added that the incident was reported to the police in Igede, pointing out that while the matter was still being tackled, the same suspect went back to the farm and murdered Olododo.

The suspect, according to the family member, had been arrested by the police, pointing out that the matter was now at the headquarters of the state police command in Ado-Ekiti. The killing of Olododo in late March 2012 adds to the ugly litany the people of the town said has been a common occurrence since 2004, with the last year’s murder of Mrs. Taiwo Oluwole, also a farm in Igede throwing the community into serious tension.

For about one week early last year, Igede-Ekiti was taken over by the youth who used the mysterious death of Mrs. Taiwo Oluwole, wife of the Reverend John Oluwole, pastor in charge of Zion Baptist Church in the town, as a decoy to demand an explanation from their monarch, Oba James Aladesuru, his cabinet members, chiefs and other leaders of the town what they said was “strange happenings in the town.”

The angry youths barricaded the ever-busy Ado-Igede-Aramoko road, sacked traders in the market and literally quarantined Oba Aladesuru and others in the palace and remained on the streets in angry protest for about a week in 2011. Also, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other Christian bodies in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area staged a peaceful protest then over the reported killings, with the spokesperson of group, Forum of Ministers and CAN, Reverend Michael Ige, accusing the monarch and leaders of the town of doing nothing about the murders.

CAN in the area had written a letter to its leadership in the state, signed by Apostle Peter Adegbami and copied the state Commissioner of Police, the state Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) and other security agencies in the state, listed the people that had been killed in the community “and nothing came out of it,” adding that “incessant murder is now very rampant and uncontrollable in Igede Ekiti.”

CAN in the letter dated February 1, 2011, and entitled “Save our Souls and Peaceful Rally,” had said: “Mrs. Olamide Ibri Akindele was killed in Ilamoye Quarters in 2005; Mrs. Awawu Omoya was killed in Odo Uri Street in 2007; Mrs. Ogboro Rachael (Iya Aina) was killed at Irona Street in 2009; Mrs. Oluwabusuyi Tayo was killed at Ilamoye Street in 2010; Mrs. Apanisile was also killed at Ilamoye Street in 2010 and Mrs. Oluwole Taiwo was killed in Odo Uri in 2011.”

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh, while confirming the latest murder, said “yes the incident actually happened and the police are investigating it.” Jimoh, a Superintendent of Police, also confirmed that one suspect had been arrested in connection with the murder but declined to give the name. The PPRO also hinted that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
