A 5-man syndicate that specialises in abduction and sale of children in Aba, Abia State at the weekend met their waterloo, as members of the Abia State Vigilance Group aka (Bakasi) arrested the evil gang.

Mr Martins Idika, the Commander General of Abia Vigilance Group who paraded the suspects before newsmen on Sunday said the syndicate abducted a seven year-old girl Chinyere Chibuzor from Amapuife community in March, 2012. The local security chief added that preliminary investigations by the group also showed that the group attempted to obtain fake papers from Abia Welfare, but failed. `

`It was because the attempt to sell the girl in Aba failed that they established link with another buyer in Port Harcourt who promised to pay N500, 000 for the child, but in the process luck ran out of the syndicate and they were arrested,’’ Idika said. He told reporters that members of the outfit had arrested two members of the group Abel and Nwaobilor for a similar offence in the past.

Idika said the suspects would be handed over to the police for more investigation and prosecution in-line with the Law establishing the outfit. He warned criminals to stay clear from Abia communities, noting that members his group have been placed at alert to flush-out bad eggs in Abia communities. ``Members of Abia State Vigilance Group have been order to constantly watch all the communities, against any form of criminality, bandits who feel they can operate here now should note that as costly mistake,’’ he said.
