Good News : FIFA Finally Lifts Ban On Nigeria
Football governing body FIFA, has lifted the ban it placed on Nigeria's Football Federation on July 9th after a high court sitting in Jos sacked the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari and other board members.
FIFA had frowned at the court ruling, stating that the move was a government interference in football activities which is against its policy. FIFA then directed that a new court order reinstating Maigari and other NFF executives be obtained before it can lift the ban.
The new court order reinstating the NFF President and other executives was obtained two days ago, Tuesday July 15th, hence the lifting of the ban yesterday Thursday July 17th.
Maigari and his board will resume their duties tomorrow and stay there until next month's elections when they could be sacked through the ballot, in line with FIFA's policies. Source
FIFA Releases World Cup Golden Ball Nominees : Top 10 Best Players At Brazil 2014(See List)
FIFA lists the top 10 best players of the 2014 World Cup. As expected, star players like Messi, Muller, Neymar, and James Rodriiguez made the list, but to the surprise of everyone, no goalkeeper made the cut despite the goalkeeping heroics witnessed at the tourney .
FIFA officially announced the names of the ten players in the running for the adidas Golden Ball, yesterday evening, which is awarded to the competition’s most outstanding performer.
The shortlist was drawn up by the members of FIFA’s Technical Study Group, who have been casting their expert eyes over each and every one of the matches held at Brazil 2014 to date. Appearing in alphabetical order, the 10 contenders for the accolade are as follows....
- Angel Di Maria (Argentina)
In providing Lionel Messi with the best possible support, Di Maria has led the Albiceleste attack with distinction, posing a constant menace to opposing defences with his long-range shooting, mazy dribbling and finishing skills, which he showcased with a well-taken winner against Switzerland in the Round of 16.
- Mats Hummels (Germany)
The Borussia Dortmund centre-half has attracted much praise for his solid displays at the heart of the German defence. As if that were not enough, Hummels has also impressed at the other end of the pitch, rising high to score against Portugal in the group phase and head home the winner against France in the quarter-finals.
- Toni Kroos (Germany)
Kroos ran the show as Die Mannschaft swept aside hosts Brazil 7-1 in the semi-finals, dominating the midfield and posing a constant threat with his passing and shooting, which brought him two goals – all in a day’s work for this most consistent of performers.
- Philipp Lahm (Germany)
The Germany captain began the tournament in midfield before seamlessly making the switch to the right-back slot, without it undermining his performance levels or his considerable influence on Joachim Low’s side.
- Javier Mascherano (Argentina)
Though their much-vaunted attack attracts most of the headlines, Argentina have also been solid in defence, a large part of the credit for which must go to Mascherano for his tireless work in providing the Albiceleste rearguard with essential protection.
- Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Messi had never scored at the world finals prior to Brazil 2014, a record he emphatically set straight with some lethal finishing in each of Argentina’s three group matches. Though yet to find the back of the net in the knockout rounds, he has remained an influential figure for his side.
- Thomas Muller (Germany)
In opening his campaign with a hat-trick against Portugal, Muller picked up where he left off at South Africa 2010, where he collected the adidas Golden Boot. His performances since have underlined his status as the spearhead of Germany’s deadly front line.
- Neymar (Brazil)
Though only 22, the livewire forward ably shouldered the huge responsibility of leading A Seleção. Neymar was his side’s stand-out performer with four goals before an unfortunate injury ended his tournament in the quarter-finals.
- Arjen Robben (Netherlands)
The flying Dutch wide man has been in peerless form since putting defending champions Spain to the sword in his side’s opening match. His incisive runs from deep have been a feature of the tournament.
- James Rodriguez (Colombia)
Recognised as a huge talent heading into the competition, the gifted Rodriguez has since proved his ability to rise to the big occasion. His haul of six goals in five outings was a major reason why Los Cafeteros broke new ground in reaching the last eight for the first time.
The winners of the adidas Golden Ball, Silver Ball and Bronze Ball will all be announced after Sunday’s Final.

Nigeria Qualifies For Second Round At The FIFA World Cup After Entertaining Defeat To A Lionel Messi Inspired Argentina Side
The super Eagle of Nigeria have made the last 16 of the ungoing FIFA world cup in Brazil despite a 3-2 defeat to Argentina.
The Eagles gave a account of themselves in a very entertaining game, with Argentina's talisman Lionel Messi and Nigeria's winger Ahmed Musa, both scoring twice each.
Argentine fullback, Marcos Rojo was the difference on the day as his unorthodox finish from a corner in the 50th minute gave Argentina all three point as well as the maximum points on offer to top the group as Nigeria had to settle for second place with Bosnia and Herzigovina comfortably beating Iran 3-1.
So, congrats to Nigeria and Africa at large. A second round clash awaits, in what at the moments is looking very likely to be a against France.
BREAKING NEWS : Diego Costa Passes Chelsea Medical, Ahead Of 32 million Pounds ($53 million) Move
Spain striker, Diego Costa has completed a medical examination at Chelsea and he is now on the verge to complete his £32m transfer from Atlético Madrid.
The Brazil-born striker, who is a part of the Spain squad preparing for the World Cup finals, has been identified by José Mourinho as being what Chelsea need to win the Premier League title.
The London club were four points short of last season’s champions, Manchester City, and their challenge came in spite of the lack of goals from their centre-forwards. Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba contributed a total of 19 in the league, with Eto’o scoring nine of them. Mourinho would bemoan the shortfall at various junctures of his first season back at Chelsea.
He believes that the powerful and ruthless Costa can make the difference next time out. The 25-year-old is fresh from his break-out season in the professional game, in which he scored 27 goals in 34 league starts for Atlético, plus eight in nine in the Champions League, as his club won La Liga and were beaten by their city rivals, Real, in the European Cup final.
One of Costa’s Champions League goals came from the penalty spot against Chelsea in the semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge, which his team won 3-1 to progress by the same scoreline on aggregate. In what was his first season in the Champions League. Source
