My Goodness! Woman Pours Hot Water On Her 12-Year-Old House Help Over N100(Photos)

39-year-old trader, Chinwe Abasi,who dehumanizing a 12-year-old boy,Chinedu Okorie with hot water has been arrested by members of the police force. Abasi,who happens to be a mother of two hails from Nnewi,Anambra State, poured hot water on the boy when she learnt that the boy had collected money from a neighbour to buy a pair of socks to wear to school without her knowledge.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Okorie, who is in Junior Secondary School 1, also worked as a sales assistant for Abasi, who sold cloth materials in the Oyingbo Market.

It was gathered that last Monday when schools resumed, Okorie told Abasi that he would need to buy a pair of socks for school.

Our correspondent learnt that the trader allegedly ignored the boy until Thursday when a neighbour, identified only as Usman, gave Okorie N100 to buy the pair of socks.

It was gathered that when Abasi learnt that the boy had collected money from Usman to buy the pair of socks, she became angry and beat up the boy.

The 12-year-old was said to have ran to the kitchen during the flogging. Abasi allegedly grabbed an electric kettle of boiling water and emptied it on the boy.

It was gathered that the matter was also reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, and a temporary shelter was provided for the boy, where he also received medical attention.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Okorie, who hails from Enugu State, said he was forced to collect the N100 from Usman because he had no other option.

He said, “I told madam (Abasi) last Monday that I needed to buy a pair of socks for school. My teachers would seize my sandals without it. But she did not buy them, and I went to collect money from our neighbour.

“When she saw the pair of socks, she became angry and started to beat me. I ran into the kitchen. That was where she grabbed the electric kettle and poured the content ─ hot water ─ on me. It was around 7pm on Thursday.”

The trader, however, told PUNCH Metro that she did not deliberately brutalise the boy, adding that everyone knew she treated Okorie like her son.

She said, “On Monday, pupils resumed school, and Chinedu (Okorie) told me he needed a pair of socks and I said I would buy them for him. Unfortunately, when I came back, I forgot. Later, our neighbour said Chinedu collected N100 from him to buy the pair of socks. I was angry.

“I queried him and warned him against the behaviour. On Thursday, I gave him N100 to buy another pair of socks. When he came back, he told me he used the money for something else. So, I beat him up.

“There were times when I gave him N1,000 to go and buy fuel. He would spend three hours and later say he misplaced the money. So, I disciplined him on Thursday.

“He ran into the kitchen, and that was when I mistakenly poured the water on him.

“I sell clothes at the Oyingbo Market. He is my domestic help. I brought him from his village in Enugu State about four years ago. The boy is stubborn. I am not a bad woman.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect would be charged to court.

Beninoise woman reveals why she poisoned her husband to death

As the trend of husband killing continues, the reasons are there for all to see even though they are no justifiable reasons for a woman to take the life of a man. The culprist are underage girls given out by their family. A Beninoise teenager, 17-year-old Abiodun Ojo, who killed her husband, Jimoh, in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State, said she poisoned her husband because she hated him.

Abiodun, during her interview blamed her father for forcing her to marry Jimoh, who she said never took care of her.

She said she had run away from the deceased 3 times, and was sent back by her father, who she described as the architect of her problem.

Abiodun had been handed over to Jimoh as wife by her father to stop her from marrying her boyfriend.
She was said to have given birth to a baby girl, Hannah, and was living with the victim in their home on Apolo Street, Makoko.

However, she was said to have met her former boyfriend’s elder brother, Wensu, who allegedly gave her the poison to put in Jimoh’s drink so she could marry his younger brother.

It was reported that Jimoh, a carpenter, had returned home from work on June 19, 2015 when his wife poured the poison into his soft drink and forced him to drink it.

The deceased was said to have collapsed and died despite immediate efforts by residents to resuscitate him.

Abiodun, who initially denied involvement in the crime, later confessed to community leaders, saying she was given the poison by her former boyfriend’s elder brother, Wensu.

The 2 suspects were said to have been arrested by policemen from the Adekunle Police Division and were subsequently transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.

Abiodun said she never knew the poison would kill Jimoh.

She said,

“I was born in Lagos, though I am from Cotonou, Benin Republic. My father married 2 wives and he had 9 children. My mother had 6 children for him and I am number 4. I did not go to school because my father did not allow me.

“I had a boyfriend, Papa, whom I dated for 2 years. I wanted to marry him, but my father refused because my elder sister was married to Papa’s brother.

“I was at home one day when my father brought some people and said I should look at all of them and say if I liked them, and I said yes. He then asked me to go. It was the next day that they took me to Jimoh.”

She said she was taken to a community in Ogun State, where the victim usually came to make love with her until she became pregnant.

She said when she returned to Lagos, she was not well treated by the deceased and she complained to her family members, who asked her to endure the hardship.

“On 3 different occasions, I ran away from home. But whenever I got home, my father would ask me to go back, saying marriage was always full of challenges.

“On the fateful day, I went to the market to buy fish for my sister-in-law when I saw Wensu on the road. He gave me the poison and said I should put it in my husband’s drink. I put it in his drink and he took it himself,” she added.

She said she regretted marrying the deceased because she never loved him.

It was learnt that the boyfriend, Papa, had travelled back to the Benin Republic.

His elder brother, Wensu, a herbalist, denied giving Abiodun the poison, saying she framed him up.

He said:

“I am a herbalist by profession and I was taught the job by my grandfather in the Benin Republic when I was a child. I met her sister in the community and we married legally. She had three kids for me.

“But when I married another woman, she divorced me and married somebody else. I did not give her any poison and I have never met her husband, Jimoh, in my entire life. She is lying.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Domestic Violence!!! Police Arrests Woman Who Stabbed husband To Death After A Disagreement

Domestic violence is becoming prevalent these days and now the men are on the receiving end. Mrs. Victoria Ambakadrimo, the 28-year-old woman that stabbed her husband, Late Barr. Henry Gagariga, to death with a kitchen knife on the throat around 11pm of Wednesday, February 4 after a quarrel in Bayelsa has finally appeared before a state high court in Yenagoa for the first time.
The presiding judge, Justice A.S Rotimi, adjourned proceeding to 18th June 2015, to enable the prosecuting (the state) hand over certain forensic evidences to the defence counsels before hearing commence.
However, an appeal by the prosecuting counsel to have Victoria remanded at the Okaka medium security prison in Yenagoa until final judgment is read was granted.
Though frail looking Victoria pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of murder leveled against, she sobbed over and again as she was escorted to prison at the end of the court session.

The alleged husband slayer before killing her husband works at the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, and is reportedly the daughter of a renowned journalist and retired director in the state Ministry of Information.

Recall that Victoria stabbed her husband, Gagariga, to death during a domestic quarrel in their bedroom and was sighted by neighbours while attempting to dump his body on the road.

Helen Byrom has bravely spoken for the first time after her ex Vincent Bowen beat her so badly police officers thought her blonde, blood-soaked hair was dyed red. Despite being convicted of grievous bodily harm he was jailed for just 28 months of which he will serve only half. “It’s sickening,”


Miss Byrom said. “I was horribly injured and he will be out in October – free to walk the streets. “When he attacked me he was like a wild animal. “He got a short sentence but I’ve been left with a life sentence.”

Miss Byrom, a team manager for a local authority, had been dating Bowen for three years when she broke up with him in September 2013. He moved out of her home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, but a month later returned and proposed to her.

Miss Byrom rejected his proposal, but felt sorry for him and said he could live in her house as a lodger. She then started another relationship, but her and unemployed Bowen remained good friends. Only on August 2, 2014, Bowen came home drunk and launched into a vicious attack.

After punching Miss Byrom multiple times in the face, he strangled her then doused her in lighter fluid and whispered, ‘I’m going to burn you.’

Woman stabs husband to death over different choice of voting Goodluck or Buhari

The Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge as winner between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidates, while voting was on-going over the weekend at Ejigbo.

The incident, which threw the densely populated area into chaos, occurred at about 12 noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction Vanguard reports.

There were different accounts on how tragedy struck. A version of the account said the couple had different views on their choice of presidential candidates. While the husband was said to have decided to vote for the PDP, his wife, called Onyiyechi, reportedly chose to vote for the presidential candidate of the APC. An argument which degenerated into a fight over whose choice would hold sway reportedly ensued between them.

In the process, Onyiyechi allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife in the chest region.
One of the tenants who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that they did not witness how the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband.

But he explained that,

“ We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment.

”On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. We met him on the ground. Before we could rush him to the hospital, he gave up the ghost.”

He would have probably survived the attack had Onyiyechi called for help early. From all indication, it was clear that she tried to manage the situation immediately the incident occurred. It was when she discovered that the situation had overwhelmed her that she raised alarm.
I do not know the name of her husband. We only know that of his wife, who we fondly call Onyiyechi. The irony of this matter is that she is not cantankerous.

”She has never beaten a little child, let alone to fight with any neighbor. Again on that day, we saw both of them together. They were seen sitting outside, one hour before the incident occurred. Policemen from Ejigbo later came to remove the corpse to the Isolo morgue”.

Tragic: Woman's Younger Brother And His Friends Stab Husband To Death

This is so sad, a case of 'from frying pan to fire'. According to reports from Daily sun, a 23-year-old woman, Blessing Ede's younger brother and his friends stabbed her husband to death following an argument over baby-walker.Trouble started last year December, when after an argument, the deceased, Mr. Isaac Ede, 36 asked his wife to go and stay with her parents in Uvuru, Imo State and should remain there until he sent for her to return to their home in Port Harcourt.

Daily Sun reports that he did not contact her until April, 2014 when he called her on phone to come back and pack her things out of his house.

In May, the woman returned to Port Harcourt to do her husband's bidding. On that fateful day at about 11p.m, she came to the house with her younger brother, Emmanuel Anuforo and two of his friends to pack her belongings out of her husband's house.

As she was packing her things, she wanted to take along the baby-walker and an argument ensued between the couple. In the heat of the argument, her younger brother and his two friends descended on the husband and stabbed him with a sharp broken bottle and he died.

Emmanuel and his friend were said to have fled the scene, leaving his sister behind. She was alter arrested by the by policemen from the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Rivers State Police Command as neighbours raised the alarm.During interrogation, Blessing admitted having an argument with her husband but said she didn not send her brother and his friends to kill him.

"I didn’t send my brother Emmanuel and his two friends to kill my husband. It was the devil. We have been married for two years. I have one child for him and right now I am six months pregnant. I cannot explain what led to the death of my husband. It was impatience that led to it. I want the family of my husband to forgive me for what I have done. With my six months pregnancy I will suffer if I am sent to prison for murder," she said.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin said, based on the findings of detectives investigating the matter, the wife was a troublemaker.

Actor Michael Jace Kills Wife In Front Of Children

American actor Michael Jace was reportedly arrested and charged with homicide after the actor himself had called the emergency service 911. CNN reports that the Hollywood actor shot his 40-year-old wife April on Monday, May 19. Their two children, both below 10,  witnessed the murder, TMZ provides.

Police revealed that the suspected motive of murder was domestic violence. 

Police confirmed to CNN that Jace called 911 and said: "I shot my wife."

The actor gained popularity after featuring in the episodes of FOX police drama The Shield, broadcast from 2002 to 2008.

Customs Officer Bathes Sales Girl In Acid, Boasts Of Being Above The Law

One Mr. Nwaeze, a Nigerian Customs officer allegedly bathed a woman in with a deadly acid solution about two weeks ago and is said to be boasting that he is above arrest.The incident happened on Friday, the 9th May, 2014, when the victim, Ms. Tope Fadipe, a salesgirl at a local food store run by Mr. Nwaeze's family was accused of not remitting N50,000 stock sales, and she had denied the allegation.

According to community residents, Mr. Nwaeze got angry that she refused to accept the allegation against her and a heated argument ensued. In the process, he allegedly bathed her with a deadly acid solution.Ms Tope had been selling stocks for the family for about three years before the ugly incident which was reported at the Badagry Police Station.Mr. Nwaeze who is said to head a Customs unit at Mosafejo Aradagun, is quoted as boasting he no one can arrest him, adding that he "can do and undo".

On Saturday, the 10th of May, one day after the incident, Mr. Nwaeze was said to have appeared at the Police Station, and had returned shortly afterwards to show he is above arrest.A resident in the street where the incident took place said Nwaeze has been belching his car radio speakers loudly whenever driving in the street, to intimidate and oppress people due to his status as a Customs Officer.

The victim is currently being treated at the Badagry General Hospital for her severe burns though doctors and witnesses say her condition is getting worse.

It was further gathered from a medical source that, Nwaeze is trying to secretly collect Ms. Tope from the hospital, without giving off any hint what he wants to do with her.

SAD: Nigerian Medical Doctor shot dead by her husband in the US

What is this life turning into? I still don't get it, who did we offend that has turned loving humans into cold deadly animals.
A 36 year old Nigerian Medical Doctor was shot dead by her 63 year old husband on Saturday March 22nd 2014 at their home in West Harris County, Houston, Texas.

Dr Isioma Awele Ebegbodi nee Unokanjo (pictured above), a mother of two and a medical resident physician at Marshfield Clinic in Texas, was shot dead around 3.am on that fateful day after getting into a fight with her husband and the father of her children, Martin Ebegbodi (also pictured above).

After killing his wife, Martin Ebegbodi went to a neighbors house and asked him to call the police. When deputies arrived, Martin Ebegbodi was arrested and charged with the murder of Isioma.

"My Wife Brutally Beats Me Up" - See What Happens When Men Become the Victims Of Domestic Violence

Nothing could be more cruel than a splash of pepper sauce on the face, but the ensuing drama was even more gruesome than his worst nightmares.

 As the law was allowed to run its course, Rukvwe, a petty trader in her early thirties, is currently serving a life sentence in jail handed down by the court a couple of months ago.

 According to our source, her late husband was a young footballer and pastor in the area.

 We gathered that trouble ensued after Rukvwe learnt that her husband had been going out with a young girl in Ughelli, Delta State and a marriage between both of them was in the offing.

 Sources said the wife, who was in her second trimester, got angry and decided to be brutal with her husband.

 “The man (Johnson) had gone for a programme in Ughelli and stayed for several days, perhaps longer than he had planned.

 He returned home to Warri to his pregnant wife; but the naive wife thought he had gone to visit his girlfriend.”

 Sources added that the woman pretended nothing was wrong as they both went out for dinner that fateful day before the gruesome act.

 “She didn’t act as though anything was wrong, the man had taken his wife our for dinner that evening.

 They returned home that night and it was like all was well.

 But few minutes after they returned, she threw caution to the wind and k*lled her husband.”

 For Mary Anozie, a resident of Ago Palace Way, Lagos State, what started as a huge joke between Romeo and Juliet snowballed into the death of her husband.

 Apart from the fact that she currently battles with the psychological and emotional trauma that may permanently live with her, she carries the stigma of being a murderess. According to her, “It was a union of unending battle.”

 The couple quarreled over trivial issues until she accidentally ended her husband’s life, thereby making herself a widow.

 Narrating her trauma, she revealed to Saturday Vanguard that she could not explain what came upon her that fateful day.

 “People refused to come to our aid as they thought it was just one of the usual quarrels we used to have.

 They thought it was the normal prelude to lovemaking between couples. So, they didn’t bother to intervene.”

 The widow remorsefully said that “it was like that until that fateful day; after I had had my baby and my husband claimed he wasn’t buoyant enough to buy baby food for the new baby. That degenerated into another fight.

 “Although my husband could not be called a man of means, I didn’t believe he hadn’t the money I asked for to buy the baby’s food.

 We had quarreled over that and he had beaten me up like he was wont to severally.

 It was painful, and I decided to avenge the beating.

 So, I picked up a stone to hit him but it accidentally hit him on the head. I watched him bleed to d*ath.”

 According to a police source, the case has been charged to court, adding that Mary is awaiting trial.

 Our source also disclosed that the two children were in the custody of the husband’s family pending court verdict on the issue.

In-Laws Throw Man Down 2-Storey Building, Okota - Lagos State (PICTURED)

A young man, Ejike Igwekile, has been thrown down from a two-storey building at 7 Rev Adegoke street Canal Estate, Okota, Lagos State Nigeria, by his angry in-laws.

Ejike’s sin is that he allegedly beat his wife, Nkiru, 27, from Delta State, southsouth Nigeria, and she ran away with their only daughter to her parents’ house at 4, Iworo street, Orile Coker, Lagos, barely a year after they got married.

According to Igwekile, who is from Okija in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, sometime this year they had a little quarrel and Nkiru took their only daughter to her parents’ house when he left for his business.

He said trouble started when their baby fell sick and his wife phoned him to bring money so that she could take her to a hospital for treatment.

He said he ignored them and insisted that Nkiru should come back to his house with the baby so that he would take her to a hospital.

After he refused to send the money, his mother in-law, Patricia Philip, 53, allegedly went to Ejike’s house at Okota to pack her daughter’s property to end the marriage.

He said when he resisted, Patricia immediately contacted her son, Charles who allegedly came with two other suspects and desended him, beat him mercilessly after which they threw him down the two-storey building.

Although he survived the fall, he was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated.

He broke his head and legs and cannot walk properly as a result of injuries he sustained during the fall. Patricia was arrested by the police at Okota division and charged to court, while Charles and the two other accomplices are on the run.

Patricia denied the allegation and told the police that it was during the scuffle that Igwekile jumped and fell from the building.

She was charged with conspiracy and attempted murder under the Criminal Code, before the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Abegunde Davies.

When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court granted her bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum. She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will fulfil her bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 11 April, 2013.

62-Year-Old Lecturer Drowns Stepdaughter For Refusing To Sleep With Him

The 62-year-old retired lecturer, Dr Ayoola Oyesiji, who drowned his stepdaughter in a bucket of water on the evening of Friday, 16 November, has been charged to court on a one-count charge of murder on Wednesday November 21.

A source gathered that the doctor’s case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, on Tuesday from Agugu Division where it was initially reported. The case, which was heard by the Magistrate in Court 8, was adjourned to January 8, 2013 while she ordered that the accused be remanded in Agodi prison until further hearing.

 Dr Oyesiji was arrested for killing his stepdaughter, Aishat Mohammed by dipping her head in a half-filled bucket of water. The Source spoke with the suspect shortly after his arrest, and his wife. Below are the excerpts: 

  Doctor Oyesiji What do you do for a living? I used to be a medical practitioner. I retired on June 30, this year, as a lecturer from the University of Ilorin. I am not practising for now. I am just waiting to go into other things. What is your area of specialisation? General surgery. 

Are you married? Yes. My legal wife is outside of Nigeria while I have a younger wife taking care of me. My legal wife and I are divorced but we have four children. I married my younger wife last year December. 

How did you meet her? She lives close to my family house at Atipe area of Ibadan. I used to see her during my visits to the area. What happened between you and the lady on Friday, November 16? We had a row. She stays in my family house where I used to go and see her from my residence at Ogbere area of Ibadan. I went on Friday and she said she would not stay at home with me, that she was going to her friend’s room next door. I told her that I would not be able to take care of her two-year-old daughter and the baby she has for me alone. 

The girl and my baby were sleeping.  To control the movement of the little girl, I put her in a bucket. I did not know there was water in the bucket. The mother was shouting  about the place. All of a sudden, a crowd of about eight people came and started beating me. My eyeglasses broke and I was later brought to the police station.

 What were you accused you of? They complained that both of us had been troublesome in that area. I tried to force them out by shutting the door but they pushed hard against it and wounded me on my toes.

 Did you injure the little girl? No, I did not. I am not the type that beats children. I learnt that the girl was sleeping when you carried her. That is correct. I did not want her to interfere in what was going by running around. There was so much noise around and I wanted to prevent what could cause a major damage. 

Your young wife said that by the time you came to her yesterday (Friday November 16), you were drunk. Yes.

 What type of drink? I took some table wine, Bacchus to be precise. I took just the small bottle.

 Knowing that you were drunk, why did you get to the level of injuring your stepdaughter? It was alcohol-induced.

I learnt that the actual cause of your row was your sexual advance towards her which she rebuffed. Yes, that is true. She even agreed but I decided not to go on because of the heat I was feeling. Actually, I started having sex with her about three weeks before this incident. •••••••••••••••

 What circumstance led to the birth of the deceased child and how did you meet doctor? I was impregnated by a teacher. At first, he stayed with me in a room he rented for me but one day, he packed his belongings and left, saying he was no longer interested in me. I moved back to my grandparents’ place where I delivered my baby in 2010. I met Doctor when he used to come to his family house at Atipe, which was just across the road passing through my grandparents’ house. He used to crack jokes with my grandfather and he later told him  that he would take care of me, as he had heard of all I passed through. My grandfather pointed his attention to my baby but he promised to take care of me. He used to give me and my daughter N1,500 weekly for feeding. Then he used to come home from Ilorin. I was given a room in his family house, where I later got pregnant with his child. 

How frequent were your quarrels with Doctor? We did not use to quarrel except the times he was drunk. Anytime he was drunk, he would start quarrelling with everyone, threatening to burn the house and accusing everyone of hating him.

 What led to the death of your daughter? He was drunk as usual. He came around and later went out for a ceremony. He took N1,000 to Oje area, where he went to have a drink. He came back and asked me for money. I gave him N200. He left and came back again, asking for more money for transport, I gave him N100. He still came back and said he was no longer going back to his house, saying that he would sleep at Atipe that night. I asked what he would like to eat and he told me to get him amala. I did. He came and said he wanted to sleep. 

My first daughter was already asleep while the younger one was with my neighbour who used to carry her. He asked me to come in for sex and I refused, telling him my baby was still small. Though we had had sex about two times, he told me he wanted me to get pregnant. Also that day, I was about concluding my menses but I knew that if I told him, he would not listen because he was drunk. He dragged me with force but I pushed him away and ran out.

 My wrapper got loose in the process but I did not wait. I went to take a wrapper from someone in our compound. I came back and people followed me. I begged them to help me bring my daughter out, unknown to me that Doctor had already drowned her in a bucket of water. People rushed in and asked him of the whereabouts of my daughter but he kept replying them that she was inside the well. 

They went in search of the girl in the well but could not find her. Someone just beamed light towards the bucket. That was how we found my daughter  head down in the bucket of water, with her legs sticking out. People screamed that the girl was dead. We rushed her to the hospital but she was confirmed dead.

Man on the Run after Allegedly Killing His Wife in a Fight

 A man simply identified as Mr Molade is presently on the run after a fight which ensued between him and his wife reportedly resulted in the death of the latter. The tragedy struck on Tuesday, in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The cause of the fight could not be ascertained, but report said the couple had been having incessant quarrels for some time.

 

According to reports, on that fateful day, there was a shout of help from Mr and Mrs Molade’s one room apartment located on 14 Ifesowa Street. However, no one responded as most of the tenants had reportedly left for their respective places of work; it was about 10am in the morning.

However, a passerby was said to have gone to the apartment out of curiosity, only to find Mrs Omolere Molade unconscious. The said passerby, a woman, reportedly tried resuscitating Omolere without success. Policemen from Ikorodu Division drafted to the scene reportedly found Omolere dead.

Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the story, said Mr. Paul Omolade took to his heels immediately after the fight, adding that effort was being made to arrest him.

Two Housewives Set Suspected Husbands' Lovers Ablaze

In Ebonyi state, first wives demonstrate their anger against their husbands for taking second wives by setting the ‘intruders’ ablaze, and making sure they are burnt to death. Women are generally cast in the mold of meek, compassionate and in fact weaker vessels when it comes to emotional issues and tasks requiring practical display of energy. But that gentle and fragile mien pales into insignificance when it comes to defending their territory in matters of love and matrimonial relationships. 

 Even the Holy Bible warns of the fury of an injured and jealous woman, which is comparable to a tempestuous and destructive storm. In less than one year, Ebonyi has been hit twice by the tragedy of crime of passion committed by jealous first wives against those they suspected had any love dealing with their husbands. The first wives descended with fury to their suspected husbands’ lovers and the suspects are not alive to tell their stories. 

 The most recent tragic event occurred two weeks ago at Akpoha community in Afikpo North local government area of the state, when a house wife simply identified as Ogeri allegedly set her husband’s lover ablaze. The fire burnt the co- wife to death. Tragically too, when the alleged offender was arrested by the police, her one-year-old child died probably out of shock. Ogeri’s husband, Mr. UroObasi, a commercial motor cycle operator was also arrested. The victim of the recent Akpoha tragedy, a 22 year-old girl, whose name was given as Miss Felicia hailed from Igbo in Abi local government area of Cross River State.

 It is not yet clear if she was ever married to Obasi, as the first wife is claiming. The marriage theory appears to have crashed when family members described it as false, baseless and misleading. Rather, they said that Felicia came to the Apostolic Church Akpoha to seek solutions to her numerous personal and psychological problems and had on arrival, requested Obasi, a member of the same church, to assist her secure accommodation, and even provide her with food items. Newsmen gathered that instead of getting accommodation for Felicia in a different location in the town, Obasi asked her to move into his matrimonial home.

 Thereafter, he reportedly explained to his mother Mrs. Virginia Oko, and his wife that Felicia was stranded and he decided to assist her by bringing her to their matrimonial home. Apparently, his wife didn’t believe the story. She was said to have interpreted her husband’s kind gesture towards a visitor “in dire need of assistance” to mean a veiled arrangement to take a second wife. And filled with fury over her husband’s action, Ogeri, according to an eye witness, emptied two litres of petrol through the back window of a room occupied by Ogeri at about 11am while she was asleep, and discreetly set the room ablaze. When the fire started, the cry of the victim attracted neighbours, who broke the door before she ran out stark naked with fire all over her body.

 The neighbours could not save Felicia’s life as she died on the way to the hospital. Nwaokpuru a neighbour living close to where the incident happened said: “I was in my room one night when I heard someone shouting Jesus …Jesus…Jesus… I quickly rushed out to see what was happening though before then the whole place had been covered by smoke … I saw someone, a woman, run out of the room, still shouting Jesus…Jesus…Jesus…and she happened to be Felicia”.

 When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Police Command, Mr. John UkieEluu, an assistant superintendent of police confirmed the incident to Newsmen. He described the incident as a homicide case, adding that it had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID. “I can’t say precisely whether the suspect has been charged to court or not, but I know it will be handled expeditiously,” he said.
