This is been caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. The story goes like this, an herbalist and a prophetess defraud bank workers of  N6M meant for performing money rituals for the bankers, so i guess there are no good guys in this story. According to reports, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a herbalist, Ismaila Abdullahi, and a prophetess, Bola Ojo, for allegedly defrauding two bank workers of a sum of N6m in the Egbeda area of the state.
The suspects, however, told PUNCH Metro that the bank workers brought the money to them for prayers without being coerced. They added that the bank workers wanted to perform ‘money rituals’.

According to the police, Ojo is the prophetess of a Cherubim and Seraphim church in the Iyana Ipaja area, while Abdullahi is a herbalist in the Egbeda area.

Our correspondent learnt that the bank workers, whose names were not disclosed, had met one Ajibola, an alleged informant for the suspects, who is still at large.

Ajibola, posing as an aide of a renowned politician, had reportedly introduced a deal to them.
It was gathered that the worth of the deal was put at N5.8m, and Ajibola asked his victims to bring the money to a location with a promise that they would get fat rewards after the deal.

The bank workers were said to have withdrawn the said amount and headed for Samson Street, Oke Odo, Iyana Ipaja, where Ajibola had an office.

While at the place, Abdullahi and Ojo allegedly met the bank workers and hypnotised the duo.
The police said the herbalist allegedly gave the bank workers a soap and sponge to bath and collected the cash from them. The suspects allegedly fled thereafter.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Abdullahi, 47, from Ilorin, Kwara State, said the bankers had come to him for prayer and assistance to become wealthy. He added that the money he collected was to purchase the materials for the ritual. He said:

“Yes, I am a herbalist. I was introduced to the bankers by my brother, Ajibola. What happened was that one of the bankers, a woman, wanted to perform money ritual.
“She came to my house in Egbeda for prayers. She also wanted to get pregnant, and she told me she was planning to start her own business, that she was tired of her work.
“So, she brought the money, which I graciously collected. I told her that I was going to buy the materials for the concoction which would make her pregnant and wealthy. That is the truth. I am married with four children. I was arrested in the Ilogbo area of Ogun State.”
Ojo, 65, said she was invited for the deal by the herbalist, adding that her role was to convince the bankers to pay the sum.
“I am a prophetess of the C&S. I live in the Iyana Ipaja area. I have three children. What happened was that Abdullahi asked me to pray for the bankers. And after the prayers, he gave me N200, 000. He is just a friend, he is not a lover.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The suspects swindled the bankers of N6m and they have confessed to the crime.
“Efforts are on to arrest the third member of the syndicate.”

Many Nigerian pastors practice occultism in the church

There are signs of end times everywhere, yet many are still blinded by the activities of these so-called pastors who simply want to be millionaires in the name of preaching the gospel. In a recent interview with Yes Magazine, Apostle Anselm Madubuko, the General Overseer of Revival Assembly Church disclosed that many pastors are simply actors, who fake and forge testimonies to get money and power. Many pastors are practicing occultism in the church.” Those are the shocking revelations made by the Apostle.
He said, “It is painful for me to see what so many pastors are doing. So many of them are practising occultism in the church. They do all this for the love of money, power, for fame and they have compromised their faith. They are acting films on the pulpit, forging miracles and faking testimonies and unfortunately, people are falling victims”.
Madubuko, while failing to mention names, said that the pastors take advantage of their congregation’s problems to exploit them financially.
“They talk about Jonathan’s success, claiming they are responsible for it. These people may know your problems, but they don’t have the solutions, because they are not from God. They use and take advantage of your problems to siphon you and that is the most painful aspect. But for all the true servants of God who are genuinely called by God, I pray that God would keep them and give them the power to establish more churches, because we don’t have enough churches yet. We are over 150 million people. So, we need more churches to cater for the souls that are perishing”.

Exposed!!! How Pastor Impregnated Married Women and claimed he was instructed by God

As a Christian, it is believed that all lies told on earth by anyone can be forgiven by God but lies told against the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven.
A 53-year-old man who claims to be a Pastor and under the direction of the Holy Spirit, has been arrested by the Police in Nsukka, Enugu State, for allegedly impregnating married women and young girls in his church .

The Pastor, identified as Timothy Ngwu, is the General Overseer of Holy Trinity Ministry popularly called Vineyard Ministry in Umudikwere Community in the University town. Ironically, police sources said the suspect claims he was directed by the Holy Spirit to sexually abuse female members of his church in the name of God.

Crime Guard gathered that the alleged sexual exploits of the self-acclaimed man of God was blown open by his estranged wife, Veronica Ngwu, who hails from Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State.
The wife who has three children for the pastor was reportedly not comfortable with the ugly development and she lodged a complaint at the Anti-Child Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department, CID, Enugu. This led to the arrest of the pastor.

It was learnt that during interrogation, the estranged wife of the pastor informed detectives that she escaped from the ministry with one of her daughters after her husband impregnated her niece and claimed he was obeying the directives of the Holy Spirit and a prophetic revelation.

She also informed detectives led by Gloria Udoka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, that the situation at the church was better imagined than witnessed, alleging that her husband converts married women and single girls to his own and impregnates all of them while pretending to be obeying spiritual directives.

The pastor reportedly claimed that he had sexual intercourse with women in his ministry as a result of directives from the Holy Spirit and with the consent of their husbands, if married, but for the single ones, a spiritual directive.
Ngwu, until his arrest, was a Scrutiny Officer and Statistician with the National Bureau of Statistics, one time assistant Catechist at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ihe-Umudikwere, Nsukka where he inducts married women and young girls seeking solution to their problems or favour. He was chased out of the Catholic Church and he started his own church.

Police Statement
The police in Enugu also alluded to the allegations when they issued a statement through the Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amarizu, stating that two women among others in the enclave of the Vineyard, left their husbands to reside with the General Overseer.
According to the statement, the two women identified as Calista Omeje and Assumpta Odo confirmed that they left their husbands to live with the General Overseer on the prophetic injunction to do the will of God.

The statement noted that Calista revealed that she had 10 children for her husband but was later impregnated by the General Overseer and that the baby died later. She also said that she gave out her daughter to the General Overseer to be impregnated, an act she described as “the fulfillment of the Will of God.”
The police spokesman noted in the statement that the pastor said he had five wives with 13 children apart from other concubines he had following the prophetic directive to do the will of God. The Pastor, according to him, said that Veronica used to be his wife but described her as ‘a falling wife.’

He also said, “ I do not do anything with any married woman until the full consent and agreement were sought and reached between the husband in line with the directives of the Holy Spirit to do the will of God, which is an act of spirituality.”

Inside the Ministry
When Crime Guard traced the Vineyard Ministry, it was discovered to be located right inside the compound of the father of the General Overseer without any sign post, while about 15 women and four men were seen taking lessons from an elderly woman who acts as an instructor in the vineyard.
The entrance to the Vineyard was barricaded with heavy iron gate which bares non-members.
However, a man who identified himself as Hilary said after a heated argument that the General Overseer traveled, and advised harshly that the reporter should go back.
As soon as Hilary left to invite others to compel Vanguardrep  to leave the premises, the reporter peeped through an opening and saw a large number of children and adult women scattered inside the compound barricaded with iron gate.

Neighbours react
When Crime Guard spoke with some residents of the area, they intimated that every thing about the ministry was shrouded in secrecy, alleging that children born inside the ministry are usually confined within the compound and denied communication with any other person outside. The children have are denied formal education, except the doctrine of the ministry.

A brother to the pastor who pleaded anonymity told Crime Guard that he was not surprised that police invaded the ministry, explaining that all warnings by members of the family to compel Timothy to desist from the act fell on deaf ears.
“Let me tell you, God’s anger has befallen my brother. We have appealed to him several times to stop what he was doing but he refused. He has colonized our compound, bearing children with recklessness. He accused us of being jealous of him because he is doing the Will of God,”he stated.

Nodding his head in disgust, he continued, “look at these buildings here, he has converted all of them to himself in the name of vineyard. I can’t say exactly what influenced his spirit to the devilish act in the name of God.
He sacked his betrothed wife who has three children for him and embarked on impregnating married women and young girls. Look at the whole compound littered with children of different sexes and ages. How can an educated man of his status reason like an unrefined man? All members of the vineyard are fools.

How can a woman abandon her husband for another man in the name of worshiping God and practice adultery? I cannot get myself involved in this matter; Vero has opened the vessel of worms in the vineyard. Let them sort themselves out with the police but I want the ministry to be shut down completely,” he explained.

Investigations also revealed that the General Overseer was chased out of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Ihe-Owerri, Nsukka as an Assistant Catechist when Bishop Emeritus of Nsukka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Okobo, discovered that he was teaching heresy. He reportedly called him to order but he would not listen.

This shocking act happened on the 10th of June, but the case is still unfolding as we speak! According to Leadership Newspaper, Police operatives attached to Ogun State Police Command have finally arrested one pastor, Abimbola Alonge, for allegedly killing his best friend, Yusuf Kamilu. (both are pictured above Kamilu is the man to the left that resembles a painting, whist Pst. Alonge is the man to the right).

Kamilu, who hails from Abeokuta and lived at Ade Oshunowo Street, Giwa Junction, Oke Aro, near Agbado, was said to have visited Alonge on June 10, 2014 but was later found later, lying almost dead at a junction in the area! Hmmm!

A resident, Jinadu said he was deeply shocked to see Kamilu, 54, lying unconcious told the newspapers reporters that the victim's eyes and tongue had been removed!
Futher investigation revealed that the victim was brutally murdered. The incident was said to have been reported at Ayinla police division.

The policemen then rushed the victim to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital LASUTH), Ikeja, where he eventually died 3 days later on Friday, June 13. Before embarking on the visit to Pst. Alonge,
Kamilu told his wife that his pastor friend said they were both going to an important meeting but did not disclose the place to him.

Alonge who happens to be the pastor of Exodus Anointed Church of Christ, Adiyan, Agbado in Ogun State, and Kamilu, a theatre practitioner, had been friends for about 15 years. Also, while Kamilu is married with two children, the pastor is said to have married three wives, but retained only one who gave birth to two children.
Speaking with the newspaper's correspondent on Friday, Kamilu's wife, Adijat, explained that when her husband was found at a junction lying half-dead the following morning, the pastor had lied to them on phone that he travelled. She said,

"At about 10am when he left the house on Tuesday, Alonge called him on phone, and my husband replied that he was already about leaving. He promised to come back at about 6pm because I was not feeling alright too, and I was even using drugs.
"By 3pm that same day, I called him on phone again asking whether my ATM card was with him because I needed to withdraw some money. He still answered me cracking a joke, and I heard the voices of about four persons laughing in the background. He said it was my ATM card that he was eating now in pastor's house. That was the joke, but it made me to know that he was still at that place."

Exposed!!! 8 kidnapped Victims Rescued From Ritualist Den Owned By Pastor

Rescued chained victim
If you are sincere with yourself you would have noticed how these fake pastors are bringing ridicule to the true servants of God. However, it was promised that in the last days, they will be so many prophets but the difficult question is "are we even in the last days?, how many of our churches are truly true and faithful?,will there be good Christians left in the last days after so many would have given up on his return?".

A ritualists’ den was, yesterday, uncovered at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu Lagos, with at least eight victims, said to have been kidnapped from different parts of the country, rescued. One of the victims, a 52-year‑old man, who identified himself simply as Onwurah, alleged that his wife had a hand in his kidnap, saying he had spent two years in the enclave.

The den was uncovered following a foiled attempt by a mother of four to take one of her victims, a seven year‑old boy, to the den.

Vanguard gathered that the woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, who resides at 33, Omologede Street, behind C&S Primary School, allegedly abducted the seven-year‑old primary school pupil, Emmanuel Emeka, on his way to fetch water from a public well at about 6.30 a.m.Chukwu was alleged to have kept the boy inside her toilet and engaged her four children in a prayer session, apparently to prevent her co‑tenants from hearing the abducted boy’s cry for help.

How Emeka was rescued
Meanwhile, back in the abducted boy’s home, located four buildings from his captors, his mother became apprehensive over his unusual delay. She was said to have raised alarm which caused residents to conduct a search round the neighborhood for Emeka.

Eye witnesses told Vanguard that Chukwu even went out and suggested areas where the search party could search for the missing boy. She was said to have been sighted with a suitcase on her head, accompanied by her children.

An eye witness, who gave his name as Oyetoye Gbemi, said: “She told us she was travelling to the village. But one of the area boys who was among the search party, ordered his colleagues to search the box.
“Immediately she heard that, she flung the box away and took to her heels. We all suspected something was amiss. When the box was opened, Emmanuel was found inside, half dead.

“The area boys descended on her and stripped her naked. On interrogation, she said her pastor, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, asked her to bring the boy.
“The area boys followed her to 319, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, where the church is situated, where they saw her pastor waiting for her. But on sighting the crowd, he took to his heels.
“But for the arrival of Policemen from Owutu division, the woman would have been lynched. The angry mob also attempted to set the church ablaze but were also prevented by the policemen. They, however, succeeded in torching some parts of the property.”

When Vanguard arrived the scene, a crowd had gathered, giving varying accounts of what happened.
But to the astonishment of all, another building alleged to be used for ritual purposes by Pastor Ernest Nwankwo was discovered. The building located at 7, Oshodi Street, was behind the church. It was gathered that some miscreants uncovered the building while they were chasing the fleeing pastor.
The mob was said to have forced some apartments in the building open, where they found an undisclosed number of persons in chains.

The victims were said to have recounted how they were kidnapped from Anambra, Bayelsa, Ogun and Oyo states at different times. One of them, according to eye witnesses, who pleaded anonymity, said she was kidnapped 11 years ago.

According to an eyewitness, “the woman said she is about 50 years old and that she was kidnapped along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway while returning from a vigil.

“The rest were males and were wearing briefs. They looked haggard and tired. The area boys set them free when they opened the apartments. I believe some of them should be with the police.
“There were also ‘Ghana must go’ bags of currencies . The area boys looted some of the things they met before the arrival of the Police.”

When Vanguard visited the den, there were bloodstains around the building and a particular apartment where those alleged to be in chains were kept, was opened up. The apartment was dark and was littered with dirty cutlery suspected to have been used to feed the victims. There was also a bowl which contained suspected human blood.

A 52 year‑old man seen in chains told Vanguard that he was kidnapped two years ago from Anambra State. He said he used to be a commercial bus driver before he was abducted and brought to Lagos.
“The man said he could not join others to escape because the key to his chain could not be found. When he was asked if Pastor Ernest was responsible for his abduction, he charged at him, saying: “Do not call him a pastor. He is not. He is a killer and a ritualist.”

A community leader in the area who identified himself as Alfa Olajide Odeji, told Vanguard that the building on Oshodi Street was always under lock and key. He said there were unusual movements there at night. His claim was collaborated by another community leader who gave his name as Elder Sikiru Odebowale.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide failed. However, Police sources confirmed that the female suspect was in Police custody and that the seven-year‑old boy had been taken to a hospital. His condition could, however, not be ascertained. Also, Pastor Ernest Nwankwo was said to be on the run.

Pastor Burns Child’s Feet

A 50-year-old pastor who burnt the feet of a two-year-old sick boy suffering from convulsion has been granted police enquiry bail by the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

The pastor, Joseph Nii Quaye of the Wonderful Messiah Church of Resurrection at Shaibu in Accra, was arrested by the police after doctors detected that the boy had sustained serious injuries to the sole of his feet through the pastor’s alleged use of fire in a bid to heal the boy.

The pastor, according to a family source, lighted a fire to a rag and a mixture of herbs known as ‘Sasoo.’ While the rag and the mixture burned, the pastor held the boy and suspended his feet over the fire, resulting in the burns.

The boy was sent to the pastor at about 12:30am of February 18 by his parents when he started to convulse. After two hours, the pastor reportedly handed over the boy to his parents who were waiting outside.

However, the boy was not fully revived and was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was admitted. According to the source, the parents of the little boy did not realize their child’s feet was burnt until the following day during a routine check of the patient by doctors when they (doctors) noticed that the sole of the boy’s feet had blisters.

The parents were called for questioning during which it was realized that the boy was assaulted by the pastor.

The doctors subsequently liaised with DOVVSU, who arrested the pastor on February 22. The pastor was in police custody until Wednesday February 29 when he was granted bail.

Meanwhile, the boy, who is still receiving treatment at the hospital, has both feet bandaged.

Three men, who claimed to be prophets, were arraigned on Wednesday before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, for obtaining N1.7 million under false pretences from a businessman, Mr Dama Lawan.

The accused persons are Merchart Joseph 25, Lukeman Rasheed 49 and David Agha 40.

Prosecutor John Iberedem said the accused would be tried for stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.

He said that they were later apprehended by the police.

The prosecutor, who said that the accused had no fixed addresses, alleged that they committed the offences on Jan. 20 at No. 1, Shobayo Close, Apapa.

Iberedem said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 (a) and 409 of the Criminal Code, Cap 17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State.

The three accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Self Acclaimed Pastor Punished Son To Death

What would have made a woman so heartless as to mete out the kind of punishment that would lead to the death of her child? How stubborn or disobedient can a child be to warrant death as punishment?

These were the questions on the lips of nurses and doctors of St. Mary Hospital Gwagwalada, and police officers handling investigation in the matter.

The boy, Chiboy, was brought in to the hospital with his hands swollen and peeling. He was weak and could hardly breathe.

His eyes were wide open and he kept moaning. One could notice that he was surely in pains.

Unfortunately, efforts to save his life by the doctors at the hospital proved futile as he died a few hours later.

Chiboy’s mother, Rosemary Okeke was there as life slipped out of her 9-year-old boy. She could hardly believe that the’ little’ punishment she had given to her boy would lead to his death.

But what manner of punishment could lead to death?
Okeke, who said she was the pastor of Sabbath church called Yeshua, the King of Kings church said she had tied her son’s hands with a ‘china’ cloth and had in addition put ‘small pepper’ into his eyes for disobeying her and proving stubborn.

She said: “We wanted to go out. I saw him putting on his sandals and I noticed that the buckle has spoilt. I asked him what happened to his sandals and he said that the buckle was spoilt long ago whereas it had just spoilt. I told him that I have asked him never to lie to me again and said I will punish him till I come back with his brother from where we were going.

“I told him to ‘hang in the air’ but he refused to do the punishment. I brought out a whip and wanted to flog him but he started struggling with me.’’

Okeke said she was angry that her boy was proving stubborn and “he wanted to show me that he was stronger than me. That was when I brought out the pepper and put a little in his eyes. I also called his 15-year-old brother to help me tie his hands and I left him in my room.’
Chiboy it was gathered stayed in the room from 7am 7.30pm crying and begging for forgiveness. But his tears fell on deaf ears as his mother who did not give him food paid him no attention.

“It was when I entered the house in the evening that I noticed that my son was not my son again. I shouted and called my neighbors who brought a car and took us to the hospital. The doctor said he won’t treat him unless we get report from the police station. So we rushed to the police station,” she added.

NEWSMEN gathered that one of the patients at the hospital who saw the situation of the boy had called the police to report the incident and they were requested to come with the boy to the police station

It was further gathered that at the police station, the police took the boy to a nearby hospital, St Mary’s Hospital Gwagwalada.

‘’The hands were peeling off. And the eyes were wide open. The doctors were about to cut off his hands so that the infection will move to other places. The doctor said that the effect of the pepper had already gone to the brain,” a nurse who pleaded anonymity said.

Ironically, Okeke ended up not going to where she had initially planned to go before the issue of the sandals came up.

Many have been asking what would make a mother treat her own child the way she did.

“It was anger. I was just angry with him. It is just that the anger got out of hand,” she kept saying to herself.’
The anger surely got out of hand because the 32-year-old mother found herself losing a child and is presently in police net, at the Gwagwalada Divisional Headquarters.

Okeke has however denied the allegation that she planned to use the boy for rituals and swore to high heavens that Chiboy was her son.

“He is my son. His father is dead, he died long ago,” she said.

Okeke who lives in Angwan Hausawa in Gwagwalada said she had come to Gwagwalada to start a branch of her church and that she had been staying in the town for the past six months.

“We are yet to build the church. We have a land. We are hoping to put a batcher there and start off until we can build a church. I consult for people. That is how I survive.

They pay consultancy fee for N500 and sometimes give me money for items we need for prayers,” she added.

But that are not the crux the matter.

The matter is that Chiboy is dead. Dead by the hands of his mother who took her anger too far. She is now left with her 15-year-old child who will keep wondering why in the world he had helped his mother to tie up his brother.

She is also not free from the police who still wonder how a cloth could have caused terrible blisters to a child’s hands and eventually, death..

African Man Claims to be God – Claims Pastors are Preaching about Him

A FORMER MEMBER of Johanne Marange sect yesterday caused a stir in the Central Business District when he moved around claiming to be God.

He was accompanied by two men who claimed to be his disciples. The man, Ananias Maponga, 50, of Zimre Park, caught the attention of shoppers along Cameron Street as he asked people to follow his teaching as the REAL God. Ananias who was holding a purse was being followed by two men Abraham Muchesa, 22, of Mabelreign and Farai Tauzen, 20, of Borrowdale who testified that they were following him to learn more about his confessions.

Unfortunately, Ananius was arrested when a sea of people had gathered around him to hear his claims as he had brought commotion in the CBD. Prior to him being whisked to Harare Central police station, he denounced pastors he claimed were STEALING from poor people.

“People must believe me and stop giving pastors money because I am the god they are preaching about. “I am the Saviour to the whole world starting in Zimbabwe and I will be there for people who are serious with me. “I am a father of five children and I survive from the gifts I receive from people who believe me to be their god.

“People following me are not giving me a chance to speak to them save for only these two who believed me and are protecting me from the crowd. “People should stop praying and start believing in my teachings because I have answered their prayers,” said Ananias. Ananias started wandering in the streets of Harare in 1990 and he blamed people for hardening their hearts to believe him. He does not have any church organisation claiming that God does not attend churches for he is for everyone. One of his ‘disciples’ Tauzen said he met Ananias at Copacabana Bus Terminus and started believing in him.

“I met this man at Copacabana Bus Terminus before I followed him to hear more about his claims. “I am going to leave him after hearing all his words and establish what he is up to,” said Tauzen. The two ‘disciples’ were however shocked when Ananias, who claimed to be god, was taken to Harare Central Police Station by the cops.

‘I forbid you all from sleeping with your wives. All marriages are void until I can return and seal them again.

These words could pass for the instructions of the Founder of a fundamentalist Mormon Cult, Warren Jeffs, to his followers while being taken into costudy to begin a life imprisonment sentence.

Warren Jeffs who was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping twogirls who are said to be 12 and 15 years old respectively, is currently serving his life sentence but was said to have predicted that the walls of the prison where he’s being held will fall and crumble. This incident, he claimed, will then make him a free man.

But trust oyinbo people; members of his congregation have started fleeing his assembly in droves as they do not seem to understand why a man condemned to life imprisonment will give them such ‘unfriendly’ order.

2 Pastors Steal Depositors’ N1.2b Through Their ‘Wonder Bank’

A Federal High Court sitting at Asaba, Delta State, southsouth Nigeria, has ordered that self-acclaimed Pastor, Glory Okeoghene Abrefera, alleged to have swindled 492 unsuspecting members of the public to the tune of N1.2 billion should be remanded in prison custody.

Also to be remanded in prison custody alongside the accused pastor is one of his accomplices, Reverend Vincent Okpogo. The wife of the pastor involved in the scam is currently at large. Pastor Abrefera owns a wonder bank called Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited, while his co-accused Reverend Vincent Okpogo is the managing director of the bank.

The bank has branches around Asaba-Port Harcourt axis with customers virtually in all towns and villages in Delta State. The accused pastor allegedly lured unsuspecting members of the public by giving them mouth watering interest on their investment. This generous deceptive interest made customers make huge deposits tagged investment.

But it got to a stage the company failed to pay interest and depositors’ money was not also refunded. By the time the depositors realised that they had been duped, Pastor Abrefera fled to Lagos and hid somewhere at Ajah. He was later arrested by EFCC operatives after some of the aggrieved depositors petitioned the anti graft-agency and traced him to his hideout in Lagos.

Between June 2006 and January 2009 the accused wonder bank President and his accomplices had swindled at least 492 people. The accused are facing multiple charges of conspiracy, stealing, fraudulent conversion and operating banking services illegally at Asaba and Effunrun, while Port Harcourt charges are being prepared.

According to some of the charges filed before Asaba and Effurun Federal High Court by the EFCC prosecuting counsel, Barrister Gbolahan Latona, it was alleged that Pastor Abrefera and his wife, now at large, Mrs. Nonye Abrefera, Rev. Vincent Okpogo and Mustard Seed Micro Investment Ltd., on 30 June 2008 at Effurun and Warri, with intent to defraud, conspired together to commit felony to wit, stealing money, property of the following people: Malemi Johnson, Chief Eyituoyo Awani, and other members of the public.

At the Federal High Court, Asaba, the two accused pastors and their wonder bank are facing criminal charge of carrying on banking business without a valid license and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 2(2) and 49(1) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, Cap B3 Vol. 2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing by EFCC, as the agency has frozen the bank accounts of the accused persons, while some of their houses and shares they have in some of the blue chip companies quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange have been temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government.

Sources close to EFCC said the accused persons will soon be arraigned in Port Harcourt for some of the offences they allegedly committed. The trial of the accused pastors and their accomplices will commence at the Effurun High Court on 29 October this year.
