My Girlfriend's Love For Money Pushed Me Into Robbery – Caught Robber Confesses

 Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Enugu State police command, have arrested one Uchenna Ikwuegbu who was allegedly on the verge of launching a robbery attack on Me of Maryland axis of Enugu.

 Uchenna was arrested on February 16, following surveillance reports. He was arrested with a locally-made pistol, cut to seize with two live cartridges. 

 In his confession, Uchenna said:

“I acquired the gun from a timber mill at Maryland. The urge to meet up with the demands from my girlfriend, Chinaza, living at Uwani axis of Enugu, propelled me into robbery.

“I had acquired the gun to unleash robbery attacks on residents of Maryland in order to dispossess them of their valuables. I was on the verge of carrying out the act when the operatives swooped on me. I do not know how they knew I was carrying a gun. I am so ashamed of myself now. I do not know what led me into this.

“My parents are crying their hearts out over this incident. They are so disappointed in me. I want to call on teenagers like me to shun robbery and other nefarious activities because the security operatives are always watching.”

55 year old armed robbery gang leader and his boys arrested in Lagos

You can say a robber at 55 is a robber forever.The appearance of grey hair on a man's head is not a sign for wisdom anymore because who have have thought an elderly man with grey hair will be the leader of a robbery gang. A 55 year old man named Chief Jude Dike (pictured above) who police say is the sponsor and leader of a 7-man gang was today September 23rd paraded alongside six other members of his gang at the Lagos state police headquarters in Ikeja.

The others paraded were; Joel Eghon, 38, Solomon Igwe, 32, Ifeanyi Onwuegbuchi, 34, Emmanuel Ifeanyi, 34, Ejike Emegwo, 31, and Leonard Afoaku, 39.
According to PM news, Chief Dike, a resident of Ajegunle, confessed to being the sponsor of the robbers by providing them with weapons for their operation and facilitating the sales of whatever they steal from any of their operations.

Speaking on how they were arrested, the State Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti said on September 20th, information got to him that some armed robbers who had earlier snatched a Toyota Hiace bus around Ebute Metta were planning another operation. He immediately instructed men of the State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, to chase after the robbers. They were arrested and the stolen Toyota car recovered.
Also a Barretta pistol with serial number P17531 and ammunition were recovered from them. When interrogated, 55 year old Dike confessed to the crime saying he got into the business by accident and continued because it was very lucrative. The suspects will soon be charged to court, according to the police.

27-Year-Old Man Breaks Into ATM, Steals N6.8 Million

A man single-handedly broke into a bank Cash machine what we call ATM machine and stole the sum of N6.8million from the Cash machine of a bank at Jabi District, On Sunday.

DSP Altine Daniel, the command’s spokesperson, who disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the theft.

He said that the 27-year-old suspect (name withheld), allegedly broke into the ATM belonging to one of the old generation banks and stole the money.

Daniel, however, said that the amount that was stolen was recovered “intact” from the suspect after he was arrested in the premises of the bank.

“On Sept. 21, at about 10 a.m., some staff of the bank came to report at our office at Utako that their ATM had problem.

“When our men moved to the scene and started looking for clues and anything that will assist them in their investigation, they noticed that the CCTV monitor room had been tampered with.

“After a thorough search, they also noticed that the door of the toilet in the room was locked from within and when they opened it, they found somebody seated.

“The suspect was picked up and taken to the station where he confessed to the crime,” she said.

Daniel said the suspect claimed to have learned the act of opening safe from video sharing site “youtube” and thereafter, bought some tools, including screw driver and pliers, to carry out the act.

She alleged that the suspect removed N6.87 million from the ATM and packed them in bags before his arrest.

“Investigations into the case has started and we are trying to find out if he acted alone or he has some accomplices,” she said.

How My Gang Stole N700 million At Ikeja Airport - Notorious Thief, K-MONEY narates

Robbers are definitely greedy people who have insatiable taste for other people's hard earned money. Such is the story of k-money, a notorious robber who was N90million richer a year ago but couldn't wait for his next hit.

In February 2012, a gang of heavily armed robbers attacked the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

They carted away N700 million from a bureau de change operator. Each member, including the informant, a cart pusher at the airport, got N90million, an amount that could have turned their lives around. But barely one year after that operation, Felix Sunday, a.k.a. K-Money, a native of Delta State became broke and went back to robbery.

The 32 year old man, who is currently cooling off at the Specail Anti-Robbery Sqaud, SARS, Ikeja, narrated to Vanguard how he robbed with the notorious Southwest robbery czar, Abiodun Ogunjobi, a.k.a. Godogodo and how he lavished his N90million share of the loot. Excerpts.

My name is Felix Sunday. I am a resident of Lagos State and I was a commercial bus driver. I joined my first robbery gang in 2009 and was the gang’s driver. Members of my gang then were old men and all of them are dead now.

They were killed in a robbery operation at Ajah area, but before then, a member of my gang had introduced me to Emmanuel Ehianeta, a.k.a. Arab, who is also a notorious robber. After their death I joined Arab and we began to operate together. Arab specialized in car snatching and we stole many cars at gun point. After each operation, he usually gave the car to a man who would drive it into Benin Republic to deliver to some of our buyers.

We did that for some time before we had issues. I stopped working with him because he was cheating me. He usually gave me peanuts after receiving proceeds from the cars we stole. I relocated to Ondo State and formed a new gang.

There, I had Chiboy and Okey as members and we specialized in house visiting. We robbed people of their valuables each time we visited their homes. We did that until 2011 when Chiboy was killed by the police in Ondo State. I quickly moved out of that state because the police were also looking for me. I relocated to Oyo State, where I became a commercial bus driver.

I vowed never to return to robbery and was contented with what I was making. But there was this man who usually sent me to the prison to deliver some items to his younger brother who was locked up there.

The man was paying me very well and I was happy doing the job for him. However in one of my numerous visits to the prison, I asked his brother what brought him to the prison and he said he was arrested for robbery, I felt sorry for him and told him that I was also a robber but had quit the job because it is dangerous.

He looked at me and laughed. Thereafter he described me as a small time robber. He asked if I could ignore a big job that could fetch me a million naira. I thought about it for a while and said, I would only do it if it would make me rich and pull me out of poverty. He told me to be patient adding that he would give my number to someone who would link me to the job.

In January 2012, I got a call from a man who identified himself as OJ and he explained that he got my number from Destiny, the guy I had been seeing in prison. OJ later told me that there was a job for me at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and he would want me to come to Computer Village in Lagos, to meet other members of the gang.

When I got there I met Asiwaju, Atoba, Eso and OJ. There OJ told me that they had concluded plans to strike at the airport and the only thing they needed then were rifles for the job. I told them not to worry that I knew someone who could provide us with some rifles.

I contacted one Ore, who used to be close to Arab and asked him how to get a rifle. He told me that Arab had two AK 47 rifles given to him in Benin Republic by his receivers in exchange for some cars. I called Arab. At first he was mad at me and asked why I was calling. I told him of the job at the airport that the foreign currencies were being exported unguarded and all we needed was to steal it. He doubted me but I managed to convince him to meet other members of the gang and he was taken to the airport and shown how the monies were being exported.

By February of that year I, Atoba, Eso, Arab and Asiwaju drove to the airport around 7:pm. I was the one driving. I parked near the barbed wire and waited in the car while four of them went into the airport for the money. Arab and Eso held the Ak 47 rifles while Asiwaju held a pistol.

I was told that when they got to the spot where the money was Arab shot sporadically into the air to scare passersby and Atoba went straight for the bags containing the money. In less then 10 minutes, they were through with the operation and entered my vehicle with the money while I drove off. We escaped through Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and when we got to Ijebu-Ode we entered into a bush to share the money.

Threat to kill everyone

Before then Arab had asked Eso and Asiwaju to hand over the pistol and rifles to him so he could keep them safe from the police. But when we began to share the money Arab corked one of the rifles and threatened to kill everyone. He said he wanted to leave with the whole money but I begged him not to do so and agreed that he should take any amount he wanted as his share.

He then asked me to bring a bag and said I should load the money into it until the bag was full and I did so. After that he ordered us to share the remaining money equally among ourselves including the informant and the middle-man that brought the job. I gave Eso, Asiwaju, Atoba and myself N90million each and kept N45million for the informant and another N45 million for OJ, who was the middle-man.

Asiwaju offered to deliver the money to the informant and the middle-man. We all went our separate ways from there. The first thing I did was to contact a lawyer to help me register a company because I wanted to sell cars. The lawyer took about N500, 000 from me and also leased a land for me for about N1.6million which I used as show room. I went to Benin Republic and bought many cars which I kept in my show room. I also bought many landed property at Ijebu-Ode.

Since I was a transporter, I decided to open a transport company, I bought three Toyota Sienna space buses and took them to Maza-MazaMotorPark, where I wanted them to be used for inter-state transportation. One of the Sienna buses had an accident on it first journey and all the passengers including the driver died in the process.

Things were moving smoothly for me until the police in Oyo State stumbled on the rifles we used for the airport operation. They found it in the home of a man Arab gave them to keep. The man told the Oyo SARS operatives that I was very close to Arab so they stormed Ijebu-Ode and they started looking for me. They didn’t find it difficult locating me because my sudden wealth and business empires gave me out. They stormed my home and looted all my property and they went to my show room and took all the cars in it. I was left with no other option than to run out of the state and I relocated to Calabar, Cross River State. I lived in Calabar for about three months but life in that state was too expensive. My money was dwindling seriously and the man who was managing my transportation company stopped remitting money to me, so I decided to come to Lagos State. I went to Ikorodu, but I was very scared.

I was moving from one hotel to the other and spending too much money. A girl who was very close to me became pregnant and I decided to marry her. We didin’t even have a house of our own then and I didn’t have enough money to rent an apartment. Then I decided to sell the Toyota Corolla I was using for N1.6million and bought a Peugeot 406 for N400, 000. I used the balance to rent an apartment and furnished it. I became almost broke at that time, and then started working my phones, calling other members of my gang to ask if there was any job.

Luckily I was told that plans were on ground to rob a bank in Osun State and what they were working on was to pick a suitable date for the job. But on December 18, 2012, Asiwaju asked me to meet him at Ijebu-Ode, from where we proceeded to the bank.

My gang wasn’t the only one that was involved in that operation. Paul, an Igbo boy was also leading a gang of Igbo boys from the south east. As usual I drove my gang to the scene and we succeeded in that operation. We carted away a huge sum of money from the bank .

Since the number of men involved in that job was much, I was given just N200,000 and I took it home to my family. By January 2013, Asiwaju, called again to say there was a job in Kwara State and the operation was being coordinated by Godogodo.

We struck at two banks in that state and I got about N500,000 as my share and life began to become normal for me again. Godogodo also brought a bullion van job for us again at Ijebu-ode and we succeeded in carting away all the money in the bullion van which included foreign currencies. My share in that job was N150,000.

Godogodo and other big time robbers like Paul, Odun and others took the larger share of it. But in March 2013, Asiwaju who had three Ak47 rifles then called a meeting of all members of the gang and said we have to rob the airport again. This time we sidelined the Alhaji and OJ, and went to the MMIA ourselves to survey how the money was being moved.

Movements of the money

On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, we struck at the airport, but before we got there we encountered a little traffic on our away. Two members of our gang who we had stationed earlier to monitor the movements of the money called us and said the money was already moving and by the time we arrived at the airport, the money had been moved from the car park into the departure lounge of the airport. We shot sporadically into the air to cause panic and distraction but some policemen who were at the airport to escort some expatriates shot at us and they killed Eso.

But Asiwaju, Atoba faced them, rained bullets and killed two of them. Before we knew what was happening the money had moved beyond our reach. We couldn’t do anything, we descended on the bureau de change operators at the airport and we carted away the sum of N10 million.

That operation turned out to be my last. I went home to my family but one week later I got a call from a member of our gang, a Pastor, who prepared the charms and oath we took before the operation. He said that he needed to see me for a job. I didn’t know that he was with the police and when I came out to see him, I was arrested. I regret getting back to armed robbery and would have stuck to my vows.”

How Armed Robbers Disguise As Beggars to Rob Innocent Nigerians

Be careful the next time you see a 'beggar' heading towards your direction. Armed robbers in some parts of Lagos State now disguise as beggars to rob their victims of valuables.

It was learnt that they usually pretend to be beggars and target mostly lone occupants of posh cars and dispossess them of their valuable items such as laptops, phones and money.

The hoodlums, it was gathered, always arm themselves with dangerous weapons such as knives and shotguns (stuck in their dresses).

The criminals, who usually start their operations between 5pm and 9pm, always capitalise on gridlock. It was also learnt that some of them had perfected the art of developing a deformity to deceive their prey and in the process rob them.

Areas where their activities are predominant in the metropolis are Mile Two Bridge; Coconut and Apapa, all on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

Mr. Lucky Uduikhue, a managing director of an information and computer technology firm, recounted his ordeal in the hands of the beggars turned armed robbers to Punch. Uduikhue said he was so unfortunate in September (last month) that he was robbed three times in the area.

He said this had happened to many motorists on that route, stressing that the usual demand of the robbers at gunpoint was, ‘I need N5, 000. If you respect yourself, bring the money. They will point gun at you.’

He said anyone who failed to cooperate with them would have his car vandalised and some of the hoodlums might physically attack their target if he failed to cooperate with them.

He said, “For many months now, motorists who drive through Mile 2 lose valuable items to robbers. As from 5pm, they have become kings of the road. Funny, they pretend as people begging for money but they end up robbing motorists of their valuables.

“This is a daily occurrence starting from Otor Wharf to Mile 2 Bridge up to Mile 2/Oshodi junction. Their target is always on big money, phones and laptops and they focus on big cars and vehicles whose drivers are alone. I have been a victim several times.

“I have reported several times to the policemen on duty at the Mile 2 bridge and have also called 112 police emergency number for the same complaint with both the police and the receiver of the police emergency number promising to take urgent action, yet nothing seems to have been done as the hoodlums are still operating uncaught and unhindered.”

Also, another motorist, Jonah Okorie, was a victim of the robbers. Okorie told Punch that he was attacked in a similar manner early this year. He said he was outraged that during the time he was being robbed, some policemen were busy arresting okada riders without minding what was happening to him.

Interestingly, spokesperson for Lagos Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said the police had not received such complaints. “We are not aware of that. Find out if the victims actually reported to the police and the station such complaints were lodged. All the same, the information is noted,” she said.

Police Foil Bank Robbery In Rivers

Men of the Rivers State Police Command yesterday foiled a robbery attack, killing one suspected robber during the exchange of fire with the gang in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND learnt that the gang of robbers had gone to rob a new generation bank located along Olu-Obasanjo Road in the state capital when a team of policemen, who acted promptly to a distress call arrived the scene.

However, it was not clear as at the time of filing this report if one of the policemen, who was wounded during the gun battle with the hoodlums, had given up the ghost.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulem, said immediately one of the robbers was gunned down, other members of the gang fled, leaving behind one of the vehicles they came with.

Ugwuegbulem said; “Our men responded to a distress call from a bank (name withheld) at Ikoku along Olu Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt. However, unknown to them, the gang had laid ambush and opened fire on the patrol team upon arrival at the scene. In the ensuing gun battle, one of the gang members was shot dead and a Policeman was also fatally wounded.

“As the gun battle raged on, the hoodlums who came with three vehicles were overpowered by the team and they ran away with two of their operational vehicles, including the corpse of their dead gang member, leaving behind a Gulf 3 car and one FNC rifle.”

Armed rubbery: Gun-toting thug caught despite wearing elaborate latex mask that changed his skin colour

An armed robber thought he had the perfect disguise - a lifelike latex mask which concealed his whole appearance.

But Henley Stephenson, who terrorised shoppers with a semi-automatic pistol in the spree of "calculated and frightening" raids dating back more than a decade, has been jailed for 14 years.

On one occasion the gun-toting thug, 41,  completely altered his features by concealing his black skin with the white mask.

CCTV images show him sporting an orange high visibility jacket and a pair of dark glasses to complete his look.

With his identity hidden, he pounced on a cash-in-transit security guard outside a Tesco Express store in Harrow, north London. He made off with about £250 in cash.

In further robberies, customers were sent running for cover as he stormed into stores with two accomplices, once firing a weapon into the air in a betting shop.

The gang of three was arrested after they targeted another security guard outside a branch of Currys in July.

The group lay in wait in a blue Vauxhall Zafira with false number plates before Stephenson, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, grabbed the box containing £19,800.

Detectives linked the crime to another four offences using evidence gathered from CCTV, mobile phones, witness statements and surveillance operations.

Stephenson initially pleaded guilty to five charges against him.

He later admitted a further 14 historic robberies across north London dating as far back as 1999.

Detective chief inspector Harry Hennigan said: "Stephenson executed these crimes in a calculated and frightening manner with no regard for innocent members of the public.

"His measures were so extreme, he tried to deceive the police by concealing his identity by wearing a lifelike latex mask which completely altered his skin colour and appearance.

"Stephenson also fired a gun in front of terrified members of the public, who scrambled for cover during a betting shop robbery."

Stephenson, of Westminster, central London, was handed the 14-year prison term at Wood Green Crown Court for 19 counts of robbery and five counts of possessing a firearm, officials said.

He will serve half his sentence behind bars, minus the 310 days he has already spent in custody.

His accomplices, Leon Topper, 22, of Watford, Hertfordshire, and Dean Williams, 26, from Barbican, east London, await sentence.

Williams pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing a firearm. Topper admitted two counts of the same charges.          

They were held by police who swooped moments later as they tried to flee the scene in Staples Corner, north London.

Robber who dressed as Elvis is jailed for life

A serial armed robber who dressed up as Elvis Presley and wore other bizarre disguises when he targeted betting shops was jailed yesterday.Martin Reilly, 53, used wigs, hats, false beards and moustaches and a fright mask during hold-ups. 

Judge Paul Tain, sitting at Brighton Crown Court, told Reilly he would serve a minimum of 12 years for the armed robberies which left his victims "immensely frightened". The court was told he locked his victims in toilets and store cupboards.

Father, son in court for alleged burglary

The police yesterday in Lagos arraigned a father and his son for allegedly burgling the apartment of one Issac Akpan and stealing items worth N175,000. The accused, Wilson Eka, 60, and his son, Anietie Ekanem, 28, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing before the Somolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos. 

They, however, pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabe Adegoke, said that the duo allegedly stole one refrigerator, a television set, a standing fan and a DVD player from Akpan’s apartment. 

He added that the accused also stole the sum of N100,000 cash on Sept. 15, 2011, from Akpan’s house at No. 1, Humani St., Somolu, Lagos. Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi adjourned the case till May 6 for substantive trial. (NAN)

3 bandits die in gun duel in Delta

Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar may have opened a new vista in crime fighting in the Nigeria Police Force with what appears to be a fresh resolve by state Commissioners of Police and their men to fight criminals and criminality in all ramifications.

Commissioner of Police in Delta state, Mr Mamman Tsafe, confirmed the operational resolution of state police chiefs while addressing newsmen in Warri, weekend, on the gun battle between men of the Counter Terrorist Squad in Warri and a five-man armed robbery gang.

He said under the new IGP, Commissioners of Police across the states and other senior police officers have agreed to work harder and revamp the image of the police force, adding, “I can tell you that the new spirit is permeating the entire police force”.

On the three armed robbers that were shot dead, he said they were part of the organized crime gang that had shot dead over 10 policemen “in the last few breaks and stolen their rifles” in the state were shot dead.

Forty-eight hours earlier, a three –man gang, which carried out their robbery operations in camouflage military uniform, was nabbed by the Marine Police in Warri. One of the suspects had confessed that the uniform was given to him by a serving soldier and the allegation is under investigation.

Commissioner Tsafe said the bandits were carrying out robbery operation along Udu Road, Warri, when they sighted the police team and opened fire on the sqaud.

He said the policemen responded and subdued the bandits, killing two on the spot in the ensuing crossfire, while the third one, who escaped into the swamp with bullet wounds, was found dead in the early hours of yesterday by the team.

Commissioner Tsafe said two other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds and the police have mounted a manhunt for them.

His words, “Two locally made cut to size gun and five live cartridges were recovered from the hoodlums and one Camry car with registration number, CU 62 RBC”.

According to him, “Our operational activities have been intensified more than ever before with the assumption of duty of the new IGP, he has directed all police commissioners to fight criminals and criminality in all its ramifications, not just Boko Haram alone, and I tell you, officers and men are determined to do more under his leadership”.

A woman, Mrs. Precious Owolo, who identified one of the deceased bandits, said the gang snatched her Toyota Matrix, Saturday evening, and forced her and her over one-year-old baby into the Toyota Camry car that was recovered by the police.

Area Commander of Police, Warri, Mr Abutu Yaro told newsmen that police were combing the oil city and environs for the wounded bandits and Mrs. Owolo’s car.

Police Rent Rifles to Robbers at N.2 Million per Operation

AFTER days of denial, the Adamawa State Police Command yesterday confirmed the involvement of three officers in the sale and rentage of arms and ammunition to armed robbers.

The three officers – an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and two Inspectors – collected N200,000 per operation from men of the underworld as cost of rentage of two AK-47 rifles.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba, said the officers had been arrested.

Shinaba, who spoke in Yola, the state capital yesterday, said the gun-for-hire scandal is an embarrassment to the command.

The three officers are ASP Abuna Mainasara, a native of Gombe State, Inspectors Daniel Eliphas and Abubakar Hali. They will soon be charged to court.

Shinaba said a Sergeant posted to the armoury detected the deal between the officers and the robbers.

The police boss said Mainasara was the chief supplier of arms with which armed robbers terrorise Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe states, which one Stephen Tizhe named as an accomplice in the crime.

The arms recovered from the police officers included two AK 47rifles rented out at N200,000 per operation, 1,200 rounds of life ammunition and one empty magazine..

Commenting on the text message that the Officer in Charge (O/C) of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS), ASP Mohammed Ali and 20 other policemen were arrested by a vigilante outfit leader in the state, Alhaji Ali Kwara, the commissioner stated that the rumour was an attempt to tarnish the good work of the officers in reducing criminal activities in the state.

He described Ali as a dedicated officer who had foiled several robbery operations in the state.

Shinaba later presented a certificate of commendation to Ali for his gallant contributions in crime fighting.

The police boss urged indigenes of the state not to be disturbed with the arrest of the three officers, saying that everything would be done to ensure that the state is rid of undesirable elements in the force.

He also called on the people to always give the police useful information “so as to checkmate the activities of these criminals”.

Meanwhile, there was a new twist in the spate of bank robberies in Ogun State as bandits, in the early hours of yesterday, raided a branch of Wema Bank in Ifo Local Government Area of the state without firing a single shot.

The robbery gang was said to have carted away huge sums of money at the bank located at Matthew Bus Stop, Ifo.

Reliable sources said the bandits had a smooth operation for about two hours, after successfully tying the bank’NEWSMEN learnt that the gang members scaled the bank’s fence and used saw to break the burglar proof before gaining entry into the vaults.

While the operation lasted, the robbers allegedly did not fire a single gun shot.

Sources said when the bank officials arrived in the morning, they found the night guard still tied with rope while several doors within the banking hall were left open.

The bank officials were said to have invited policemen at the Ifo Divisional Headquarters to the scene and the guard was subsequently untied and whisked away.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached for comments on the incident. Meanwhile, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been removed by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkemdeme, over the raiding of about 15 houses in Abeokuta, the state capital, last weekend.

The DPO (name withheld) was said to have given “wrong information” to the police commissioner over a robbery incident that occurred at Oke-Ejigbo area of Abeokuta on Friday through Saturday morning.

Two people were said to have been killed in the incident while several others were reportedly injured.

The NEWSMEN gathered that the bandits moved from one house to the other without any hindrance or resistance from security agents.

But, rather than provide accurate briefing for Nkemdeme, dependable sources said the DPO trivialised the matter and claimed that only two houses were raided.

When the police commissioner eventually learnt about the robbery in the media, he was said to have been angry with the DPO and ordered his immediate redeployment.

ARMED ROBBERS KILLED FOUR AND KIDNAP POLICEMAN IN LAGOS

A GANG of dare-devil armed robbers, Wednesday, in Lagos threw caution to the wind, killed four persons and abducted a yet-to-be identified Police Corporal.

The incident happened atop Oshodi Bridge (Oshodi oke) and time was about 7.15am.

The cause of the early morning shooting incident at the ever busy and densely populated Oshodi is still sketchy as at the time of filling this report but a source was quoted as saying that the bandits were tailing an unnamed Lagos business man said to be carrying huge sums of money in a private car.

According to sources, while the armed men were stalking the man, they reportedly sighted a police patrol van ferociously approaching and they erroneously concluded that the team of policemen in the vehicle were after them.

Reports said the hoodlums promptly came out of their vehicle, opened fire on the van, killing three occupants. Not minding that there might be another police van approaching, the notorious bandits reportedly went to where the police van was parked, and abducted a Police Corporal that was shot and injured in the car.

Meanwhile, some of the bandits held down the businessman, forced open his vehicle with bullet shots and evacuated as much money as they could into their get away van.

They reportedly released several bullets indiscriminately and shot their way to escape.

Crime Alert was further told that a yet-to-be identified passer-by was also hit by the robber’s reckless use of fire power and he died on the spot.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu said he was yet to be briefed over the incident adding that he had been in another official engagement in the state. Jinadu however assured that the fleeing bandits would soon be rounded up.

In a similar development, a gang of armed men suspected to be armed robbers early morning yesterday shot dead a driver working with one of the new generation banks in his car at Ilupeju area of Iyana, Oworonshoki in Lagos State.

The deceased who was identified through his official identity card was reportedly shot dead around 6.30am while going to work. Eyewitnesses said two women who were with the deceased in the Toyota Camry car with registration number LE NR 307 KJA at the time of the attack were not hurt. When Crime alert approached the women for details, they were in a state of shock and could not give details of the attack.

However, some of the eyewitnesses said the deceased was shot several times in the chest leaving him a pool of his blood. The identity card found on him showed that he lives at number 8, Abosede Street, Giwa/Okero, Ogun State but some witnesses familiar with the deceased later said he no longer lives there and had packed to another house. They also revealed that he was a former mechanic before he decided to seek employment in the bank.

As at the time of going to press, it was not possible to ascertain whether the gang of armed bandits that escaped from Oshodi were the same that operated at Oworonshoki but Police sources said Lagos State Police boss, Alkali Yakubu has directed men of the special anti-robbery squad, SARS, at the headquarters in Ikeja to swing into action and fish out the bandits that perpetrated the act without delay. He also reportedly assured Lagosians that there was no cause for alarm as he stated that the Police in the state are poised for action and battle-ready to deal ruthlessly with criminal elements in the society.

Robbers seize state house-bound cash, kill 2 policemen

A five-man robbery gang, yesterday, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, attacked a black Toyota Corolla car conveying a large sum of money to Government House and killed two mobile policemen.

The incident took place before some top military officers who were leaving Barracks Road end of the Government Lodge for a five-star hotel, venue of their week-long Nigerian Army Day celebrations.

The robbers ordered the civilian driver of the Toyota car to step out, killed the two escorts, took time to ransack the car and threw some cash on the road. While people rushed to pick the much they can, they escaped in a green coloured Mercedez 190 car. The military personnel stood by all this while.

While motorists, pedestrians, and motorcycle riders, popularly called Okada, scrambled over the loot left behind by the armed robbers,  one of the soldiers quickly moved the bullet-riddled Toyota car out of the road.

The corpses of the two policemen were moved to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital’s mortuary in a Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, vehicle by men of the Command who arrived the scene few minutes after the operation.

A staff of the bank, name withheld, who arrived the scene while some policemen were removing the mobile phones of the two dead policemen, said the amount involved was much. But the staff refused to give the figure.
